The Rock Fought For Cavill Superman
The recently released DC film Black Adam saw the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, a move that actor Dwayne Johnson says Warner Bros. Discovery initially didn’t want to happen. In a new video celebrating Black Adam becoming the No. 1 movie, Johnson praises Cavill’s return, noting that if they wanted to establish Black Adam as one of the most powerful beings in DC, they had to bring back “the most powerful, unstoppable force of all time in any universe,” which of course is Superman. However, Johnson then seemingly takes some shots at the higher-ups of the then-DC Films, noting that they “inexplicably and inexcusably” did not want Cavill to return. While Johnson didn’t speak much more about that, he did note that they weren’t going to take no for an answer, and continued to fight for Cavill’s return. “And you guys know who I’m talking about. Of course, that is Superman, and that’s Henry Cavill,” Johnson said. “And at the end of the day, the studio was not bringing Henry Cavill back, inexplicably and inexcusably. But we weren’t going to take no for an answer. Myself, my Seven Bucks co-founder and chairwoman, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, our Seven Bucks president. Jay Leno Returns To Comedy
Jay Leno made his return to a Hermosa Beach comedy club on Sunday – his first gig since his horrifying burn accident over two weeks ago. Leno, who frequents The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa was swarmed by flocks of fans and media upon his arrival with wife Mavis. He drove himself to the venue in a blue Tesla. He suffered what was described as “serious burns” to his hands, chest, and face after a fire erupted at his garage in Burbank. It resulted in the comedian receiving hyperbaric chamber treatment. At the time of the accident, Leno had to cancel a gig he was slated to perform at, per People Magazine. In new photos, Leno’s burns are most noticeable on his chin and neck. He appeared in good spirits, making light of his accident. He told reporters upon arriving for his show, “I never thought of myself as a roast comic,” per “Today” video. “We have two shows tonight: regular and extra crispy.”

Bob Dylan Makes Rare Apology
Bob Dylan issued an apology after it was revealed he used a machine to duplicate his signature on books and artwork for the last few years. Dylan said he made an “error in judgment” by approving his works, including the book “The Philosophy of Modern Song,” to be sold as hand-signed copies to fans. After developing symptoms of vertigo in 2019, the star claimed he started using an autopen to sign merchandise, books and other artworks. The controversy began when fans on social media began noticing a similar signature on limited-edition signed copies of Dylan’s latest book that cost $600. “I’ve been made aware that there’s some controversy about signatures on some of my recent artwork prints and on a limited-edition of Philosophy Of Modern Song. I’ve hand-signed each and every art print over the years, and there’s never been a problem,” Dylan said in a statement. “However, in 2019 I had a bad case of vertigo and it continued into the pandemic years. It takes a crew of five working in close quarters with me to help enable these signing sessions, and we could not find a safe and workable way to complete what I needed to do while the virus was raging.” He added, “So, during the pandemic, it was impossible to sign anything and the vertigo didn’t help. With contractual deadlines looming, the idea of using an auto-pen was suggested to me, along with the assurance that this kind of thing is done ‘all the time’ in the art and literary worlds.” The scandal has raised concerns about how many of Dylan’s other works, which have sold for thousands, have been auto-signed.

Queen Camilla Starts New Tradition
Camilla Parker Bowles, Queen Consort to King Charles III, is breaking the longstanding royal tradition of having “ladies-in-waiting” and will instead appoint assistants under the modernized title “Queen’s Companions,” multiple outlets are reporting. The BBC reports that Camilla is also scaling back the duties of her six assistants, making the symbolic position less of an administrative or secretarial commitment than in the past, when ladies-in-waiting also worked on logistics for the Queen. The move is part of an effort to push the British monarchy into modernity and remodel parts of the institution after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, whose passing ended a record seven-decade reign and left the monarchy to her son. Still, the assistants will likely play a similarly supportive, personal-assistant role to Camilla as they have done to Queens and Queen Consorts since the Middle Ages, attending her at public events and supporting her official duties, according to the Washington Post.

Will Smith Knows People May Not Be Ready For Him
Will Smith has shared a message for those who might be feeling a little conflicted about watching his new movie following his 2022 Oscars slap controversy. “Emancipation” is set to be released in theaters on December 2 and stars Smith as a slave named Peter who flees a plantation in Louisiana after nearly being killed. Premiering on Apple TV+ a few days later on December 9, the movie is the actor’s first on-screen appearance since he was banned from attending the Academy Awards for 10 years after slapping Chris Rock. In a new interview with FOX 5’s “Good Day DC,” journalist Kevin McCarthy asked Smith what he “would tell people who say ‘I’m not ready’ or ‘it’s too soon'” to watch the actor again. “I completely understand that if someone is not ready, I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready,” he said. Smith added that his “deepest concern” is if his involvement in the film will damage his collaborators’ reputations and their chances of being recognized by Oscars voters for their work on the film.

Beatles Cassette Returned 44 Years Late
A library in Texas said employees recently found something unexpected in the drop box — a Beatles cassette tape that had been checked out 44 years earlier. The San Antonio Public Library said the tape, a recording of an interview with Beatles members John Lennon and Paul McCartney, was left anonymously in a book return drop box recently. Librarians determined the cassette had been checked out from the Westfall Branch Library more than four decades earlier. “Luckily, we have been fine-free since October 2021, so even if you have an item to return that’s a year late, a decade late, and even four decades late, we will still accept it at NO charge,” the library said in a Facebook post.

Man Plays And Wins Lottery For The First Time
A Virginia man said he has peer pressure to thank after he bought his first-ever Powerball ticket — and won a $150,000 prize. Danny Johnson, of Hampton, told Virginia Lottery officials he was always skeptical about lottery games and would tell his friends that they’re a waste of time and money. Johnson said a friend started urging him to buy a Powerball ticket when the jackpot reached historic levels in early November, so he gave in and bought a ticket for the Nov. 5 drawing from the lottery’s website. “I looked at the winning numbers and said, ‘Hey I’ve got a few of those,'” Johnson recalled. “I didn’t know how much I’d won because I never play.” The first-time player’s ticket ended up matching four numbers and the Powerball in the drawing, earning him a $50,000 prize that was multiplied to $150,000 thanks to his selecting the Power Play option. Johnson said he has no immediate plans for his winnings, but he is considering a surprise gift for the friend who pressured him into buying his ticket.

Couple Wins At Competitive Eating
A Florida couple who are both competitive eaters broke Guinness World Records for speed eating hot dogs and a burrito. The record-keeping organization announced Miki Sudo ate an entire burrito in 31.47 seconds, breaking the previous record by 0.88 seconds. In the same day, she broke the record for most hot dogs eaten in 1 minute, downing six to double the previous record. Sudo’s husband, Nicholas Wehry ate 12 hot dogs in 3 minutes, beating the previous record of 9. The pair, known as The Hungry Couple, met four years ago while preparing for a competitive eating event. “We actually met at the gym on the morning of the largest eating contest on our circuit,” Sudo told Guinness World Records. “I just thought I’d be polite, and I went over and introduced myself.” See the video HERE.

Woman Has A “McBirth”!
Yes, they’ve nicknamed the baby “Nugget,” after a woman delivered a girl at an Atlanta McDonald’s. Alandria Worthy tells WXIA-TV that her labor was intensifying and her fiancé was driving her to the hospital Wednesday morning when they stopped so she could use the bathroom at the fast food restaurant. “I went into the bathroom and my water broke immediately,” Worthy said. Worthy said she started screaming. Restaurant manager Tunisia Woodward went to see what was happening. “I open this door, didn’t see anyone, but I saw feet (under the door),” Woodward said. “I opened, and she was on this toilet lying back, screaming. Then I knew to tell my crew, ‘We’re having a baby today.’” Woodward and two workers began to help. The fiancé, Deandre Phillips, came in to check what was taking so long, only to find Worthy giving birth. Less than fifteen minutes later, Nandi Ariyah Moremi Phillips was born.

If You Drink To Decompress During The Holidays, Try This Instead

Set the tone for yourself and others
Drinks are the norm at parties, dinners, and late-night chats with friends. In some cases, we don’t remember the evening. And in the morning, hangovers follow. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Make a plan for yourself. Envision what the next 24 hours will look like. That means scheduling a morning coffee with a family member, friend or workout (so I am held accountable for my plans).
“Before sobriety, Thanksgiving looked like a hangover — sleeping until the afternoon and showering right before we sat down to dinner,” said Elisa Hallerman, the founder of Recovery Management Agency. Hallerman, who is 20 years sober, now has a different Turkey-day schedule. She helps her sister cook, participates in storytelling, watches movies with her family, and takes a walk on the beach in the morning.Aside from setting expectations for yourself, you also should set them with others. Corey O’Brien, 31, doesn’t remember Thanksgiving before getting sober. Now, after 10 years without alcohol, the Los Angeles-based dancer and TikTok personality is frank about his lifestyle. If offered a drink during the holidays (or anytime, year-round), he transparently tells people about his alcohol use disorder. “It’s an icebreaker and straight to the point,” he said.
Try a non-alcoholic option
In 2022, there are a plethora of nonalcoholic beers, wines (including sparkling ones), and spirits for every palate. You can buy ready-made, pre-mixed booze-free cocktails or shake and stir your own at home (if you feel creative).
O’Brien opts for Martinelli’s sparkling cider every holiday and celebration, while Hallerman’s go-to is hot tea so she can be present, warm and cozy. For a sweet treat, she prefers a more nostalgic beverage: hot chocolate. “The smell and the taste bring you right back to feeling like a kid again and just being happy with an extra marshmallow in your cup,” she said.
Prepare a booze-free gift you and everyone else can enjoy
Often guests bring bottles of wine for their hosts and hostesses. Instead, bring a dish, dessert or something else that everyone (including kids) can enjoy. Hallerman noted that it’s also nice to bring something homemade, which you may also benefit from. Research shows activities like doing crafts or baking promote a sense of relaxation.
“You can also stop and get beautiful flowers or a centerpiece for the table,” Hallerman said. “You can bring something fun for everyone to do, like a game or a huge puzzle.” Bonus points if you find a more personal gift to commemorate the day.
Pass the time with activities that engage your hands or brain
I’m a natural busybody: working out, cooking and catching up on streaming movies during the holidays is the best way (for me) to stay alcohol-free. As silly as it sounds — while everyone else is relaxing, drinking, not making concrete plans and letting their calendars rest — I tend to pack my days with fun things that keep me occupied.
“You might cook, prepare the table, or be of service in any way to the host,” Hallerman said. “I love to connect and play with the kids and leave all the grown-up worries at the door. Watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an excellent pastime; then, of course, there’s football.”
O’Brien’s best advice is to eat everything in sight, second to connecting with his company. “The most important would be spending time with loved ones and having genuine and meaningful conversations,” he said. “Life can be so hectic, and the time I get to share with loved ones is precious.”
If you haven’t seen a friend or family member in a while, prepare some topics in advance, like stories you want to share, hot TV shows of the moment, or what everyone’s looking forward to in the coming year.
Phone a friend who supports you
To be blunt, sometimes these tips work flawlessly and sometimes you need a little extra support ― especially when you’re in unfamiliar territory (like visiting a new partner’s family) or seeing people who don’t understand your lifestyle choices (read: resisting a drink).
It’s important to lean on your circle for encouragement (and venting). Having someone to count on at your fingertips can be extremely helpful and comforting, whether that means bringing a buddy to dinner, excusing yourself to make a call from the bathroom or sending a text from the table.
And, next year, you can always plan your holidays differently if this is something you plan on doing again. “Spend the holidays in an environment that allows you to fill your soul with love,” Hallerman said.
