Alec Baldwin Pushing For Real Cops On Set

Alec Baldwin took to social media on Monday to share his idea to make film and TV sets that use firearms more safe — hire police officers.  He has been at the heart of an ongoing debate in Hollywood about the use of real guns during production after an on-set accident involving him left “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza wounded. On Monday, Baldwin issued a rare social media post since the tragedy to note that he believes having a police presence paid for by networks or studios would lead to fewer gun-related mishaps.  “Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapons safety,” he wrote Monday.   His pitch is not dissimilar from the rules that are already in place for film productions in New York City, one of the world’s most densely populated film centers. Productions are required to adhere to a code of conduct that spells out rules for parking, notifying neighbors and other details, including specifying that the sound of gunshots should not ring outdoors between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m. For use of a weapon or prop firearm, the city also requires authorization from the police department and an officer to be on set.

Meghan’s Half Brother Apologizes To Her

Meghan Markle’s estranged brother regrets urging Prince Harry to call off their royal wedding in 2018, calling it the “worst mistake of his life.”  Thomas Markle Jr. was given the task of penning a letter of apology to the royal couple on Monday’s episode of Australia’s “Big Brother VIP.”  “Dear Meghan and Harry, the first thing I want to say to both of you is that I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart for the awful, mean letter that I wrote to you prior to your wedding,” he said as he read his new apology letter aloud on the show.  “I want both of you to know it did not come from the real person that I am, but came from a very dark and hurt part of my heart … I am not a mean person at all, and I have more love inside me to give than anything.” Thomas added that he was offended at the time after Markle described him as “distant family.”  “I was very hurt and confused because of the amazing bond and relationship we shared growing up together and all I could do was put up a defense wall to protect my heart,” he said, adding, “I know that it was very immature and wrong and I truly regret it.”  He also noted how hard of a transition it was when his life was no longer private after Markle’s relationship with Harry became public knowledge.  Thomas admitted to being a “complete ass” and doubled down on his apology.  “Meg, if I could really turn the clock back, I would truly tell you that I am so, so proud of you and truly I am so happy for you and Harry. And I love you,” he said. “You are my little sister, my family and you always will be. Now you have found the love of your life and started a family of your own … couldn’t be more proud of you.”

Wendy Williams Still Recovering

Wendy Williams’ ongoing health issues may keep her off the air until 2022.  Following Williams’ message that her recovery is “taking longer” than expected, a source says that “producers are already trying to line up guest hosts through December.”  Another insider agreed that Williams likely won’t return until 2022 and said she’s been very “lonely” as she doesn’t have family around her.  However, a third source close to Williams says that they’re “optimistic” she’ll be back before the end of the year and are giving her the time she needs to recover from complications from Graves’ disease.  If they do need to bring in more guest hosts, we’re hearing that Leah Remini may return to fill in for Williams. She issued a statement on social media about her ongoing health battle, saying she’d be back on the small screen “as soon as” she and her doctors agree she’s ready. “HOW YOU DOIN’? I MISS YOU ALL! As everyone knows, my health has been a hot topic. I’m making progress but it’s just one of those things that’s taking longer than we expected,” her social-media statement began.  “I’m a woman of a certain age, and I know enough to listen to my doctors and will return to my purple chair as soon as we all agree I’m ready,” the 57-year-old continued. “I want to thank all of my staff and our guest hosts for stepping up and stepping in while I can’t be there.”

Vin Diesel Extends Olive Branch To The Rock

With the “Fast and Furious” franchise nearing its close, star Vin Diesel is attempting to end his longstanding feud with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson — by practically begging him to appear with him in the next film.  He extended his online olive branch to the Rock who many fans believe suggested Diesel was a “candy ass” and “chicken s–t” in a scathing — but blind — Facebook attack back in 2016.  “My little brother Dwayne … the time has come. The world awaits the finale of Fast 10,” wrote Vin in his hatchet-burying bid via Instagram on Sunday.  Johnson had joined the franchise as Agent Hobbs in 2011’s “Fast Five,” appearing alongside Diesel’s Dom Toretto in each subsequent sequel — until they parted ways as tensions came to a head following 2017’s “The Fate of the Furious.”  Diesel continued, “As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house,” adding “there is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes.”

Disney To Release Marvel Movies In IMAX Size!!

Disney and IMAX have announced a collaboration that will see several Marvel movies presented in IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio format on Disney Plus. 13 MCU movies in total will be upgraded to IMAX Enhanced on November 12th, including Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which is making its debut on the service that day.  While IMAX traditionally uses a squarer 1.43:1 format, Expanded Aspect Ratio is 1.90:1, which is relatively close to the 16:9 ratio of TVs. Marvel movies are generally presented in wider, letterboxed aspect ratios, but many of them feature some 1.90:1 sequences captured with IMAX-certified cameras for a taller picture in IMAX theaters. Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, meanwhile, were shot entirely in the format.  Black Widow, for example, has 22 minutes of IMAX Expanded Aspect Ratio footage, so those scenes will fill up more of your TV screen when you watch them on Disney Plus. Travis Scott Refunding Attendees

Travis Scott will refund Astroworld attendees and won’t perform at this weekend’s Day N Vegas Festival, which he was set to headline.  He is listed as the headliner for Saturday, Nov. 13, during the three-day festival at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, but is “too distraught” to play after eight people died and dozens were injured at his Astroworld festival Friday.  The Houston Police department is conducting a criminal investigation into what happened, with the involvement of the homicide and narcotics divisions, Finner added.  “I’m honestly just devastated. I could never imagine anything like this just happening,” Scott said in an Instagram story posted on his account Saturday.  Lawsuits against Scott and organizers have since been filed, noting Scott’s history of encouraging fans to rush the stage and ignore security guards and alleging he and organizers didn’t stop the show when the crowd became out of control.

“It was the most shocking thing that I have ever been through,” star Milla Jovovich said of the motorcycle accident that nearly took the life of her stunt double.  “That accident shouldn’t have happened.”  Jackson lost part of her arm when her motorcycle collided with a camera crane on the first day of shooting in 2015.  Sadly, that was not the only tragedy to befall the production.  Later that year, crew member Cornelius was crushed and killed by a Humvee that was improperly secured to a rotating platform.

Giant Potato!

A New Zealand couple said they were cleaning out their vegetable garden when they found a massive potato that weighed more than 17 pounds and might be a new world record.  Colin and Donna Craig-Brown said they initially weren’t even sure of what they had discovered under a few inches of dirt in their Waikato garden.  “I said to Donna this must be one of those white kumara that we grew,” Colin Craig-Brown told Stuff.co.nz, “because some of them just grew massive here.”  Craig-Brown said it only after he stabbed at it with a fork that he discovered the item was a potato.  “I said to Donna, ‘It’s a potato,’ and she went, ‘No.’ I said, ‘Yeah it is!'” he recalled to Newshub.  The couple said the potato, which must have been growing in their garden for a couple years before being discovered, weighed 17.4 pounds.  The couple applied to have the potato, which they dubbed “Doug,” recognized as the world’s largest by Guinness World Records. The current record-holder is an 11-pound spud grown by British gardener Peter Glazebrook in 2011.  See the video HERE.

Bear Breaks In and Poops In Car

Police in Colorado said a bear broke into an unlocked car and left behind a trashed interior and “an extra special surprise in the back seat.”  The Aspen Police Department said the bear bandit apparently opened one of the vehicle’s unlocked doors and climbed inside to shred the seats and tear apart the doors from the inside.  “The suspect left an extra special surprise in the back seat,” the department said in a Facebook post, using an emoji to indicate the bear had defecated inside the car.  The department said the incident should serve as a reminder to “be bear aware” and keep cars, homes and trash secured from the animals. Unicycle Rider Solves Cubes

An Alberta teenager broke a Guinness World Record when he solved 300 Rubik’s cubes while keeping his balance on a unicycle.  Jesse Bradford, 17, of Brooks, said he received word from Guinness World Records that he is the new official holder of the record for most rotating puzzle cubes solved on a unicycle.  “They just sent me an email and I checked their website and I was up on it. I couldn’t really believe it. It was crazy,” Bradford told the Brooks Bulletin.  Bradford, a senior at Brooks Composite High School, solved 300 Rubik’s cubes while riding his unicycle. He beat the previous record of 250, which was set by U.S. man Caleb McEvoy in March 2018.  Bradford said it took him about 2 hours and 13 minutes to solve all of the puzzles.

Woman’s Leggings Review Goes Viral

A good pair of leggings should make you feel comfortable during a workout, but one woman put her new capri pants to a much tougher challenge, and promptly went viral with her hilarious review.   The American woman, only identified as Cory H., shared the rave review for $13.99 leggings Raypose leggings on Amazon in July 2020, but it resurfaced over the weekend when a fellow shopper shared it on Twitter.   The buyer admitted she was too scared to walk the steep side of a mountain herself and had to slip and slide to the bottom.  She shared two pictures of herself laying against a rock, and in her very strong endorsement, Cory said she was impressed that the leggings hadn’t ripped during her endeavor and planned to buy them in every color.   Cory gave the leggings a five-star rating and titled her review ‘Order them now.’   ‘Can I just say that I will be reordering them in every color,’ she said.   ‘Here is me rolling and sliding down a mountain because I was too scared to get up. My leggings did not rip not even a little bit and I got stuck on rocks and trees,’ she added.   On Amazon, 15,326 people found Cory’s review helpful, and it was shared on Twitter over the weekend, when a woman shared a screenshot of it, captioning it: ‘I think about this twice per week.’

The Most Hygienic Way To Pee On A Plane

Disinfect surfaces.

“As an infection prevention specialist and someone who travels a lot, I have a routine when I fly,” said Michelle Barron, the senior medical director of infection prevention and control at UCHealth in Colorado. “When I sit down in my seat, I use a disinfecting wipe to wipe down the armrests, tray table and anything else that someone may have touched. Then I use hand sanitizer to clean my hands. The same routine works for a bathroom.”

Barron advised using disinfectant wipes on any lavatory door handles, lids and sinks before touching them.  Philip M. Tierno, a professor of microbiology and pathology at New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine, noted that although skin is a natural barrier to germs, he suggests traveling with a small tube of disinfecting spray for areas like the airplane bathroom.

“I would use Lysol spray on the seat before sitting on it,” Tierno said, then wait about a minute and wipe it off with a paper towel or face tissue. “The friction caused by the rubbing process as you wipe helps remove most debris there as well as many germs.”

 

Touch as little as possible.

Make sure you have a barrier between your bare hands and any surfaces you have to touch.

“The restroom likely holds a higher number of germs, and it is used by more people,” Barron said. “So it is important to limit contact with surfaces and use a disposable item like a paper towel to touch any door handles, toilet lids or handles, sinks, etc.”

Jagdish Khubchandani, a professor of public health at New Mexico State University, advised putting tissues on the toilet seat or paper seat covers if they’re available. Dispose of them when you’re finished.

“This helps maintain hygiene and saves others who follow a lot of hassle,” Khubchandani said. “Open the door with the tissue paper or wipes when exiting the lavatory. Put these tissue papers in trash.”

 

Consider not using the toilet paper to wipe.

“My biggest airplane bathroom hack is using the airplane tissues instead of the toilet paper,” said Brenda Orelus, a flight attendant and founder of Krew Konnect.

Earlier this year, Orelus posted this bathroom hack in an Instagram reel in which she explained that toilet paper is generally more exposed to liquids because it is usually located at a lower level.

“The tissue paper is typically located at eye level on commercial aircrafts,” Orelus told HuffPost. “Significantly increasing the likelihood that any liquid splashed on it is in fact just water.”

 

Close the lid before flushing.

We know that infectious microbes can spread through “toilet plumes” ― the dispersal of particles caused by flushing a toilet. These toilet aerosols can be vectors for diseases, including COVID-19.

There’s a simple way to help combat this.

“You can close the toilet’s lid before flushing to avoid spreading germs into the air during the flush cycle,” Barron said.

 

Wear shoes.

“On long duration flights, I have noticed people ― often, kids ― walk barefoot towards or into the bathroom,” Khubchandani said. “This is a very unhygienic tendency with potential for infection if someone has skin cuts and injuries on their foot. Also, you stay with the germs on your skin from the restroom for the entire flight unless you wash feet, which doesn’t happen much.”

He also suggested rolling your hems at the bottom if you’re wearing sweatpants or other long, loose garments to avoid droplets of urine, bits of tissue or other waste from getting on your clothes.

“Everything from the waist down is in an area where turbulence can lead to poor aim,” Orelus noted. “So no, it’s unlikely the liquid on the floor is water.”

 

Sanitize your hands.

Washing your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water is an important way to prevent the spread of germs. However, studies have suggested airplane lavatory water can be quite poor in quality.

“The reservoir of water in the bathroom tank can be grossly contaminated,” Tierno said. “As such, I would use 62% alcoholic gel to sanitize your hands rather than using the bathroom sink water.”

Avoid touching your face or mouth in the bathroom before cleaning your hands. The same goes for other steps of your travel journey.

“I’d also recommend keeping hand sanitizer nearby to use before and after eating or touching your face,” Tierno said.

 

Clean up after yourself.

“While going to the restroom, be considerate about others who may follow,” Khubchandani said. “We often don’t think about this or assume someone else will clean. This is disrespectful to other passengers and flight attendants if they have to clean up for us. So, flush as you go, dispose of trash in cans designated for waste, wipe the sink area and clean the toilet bowl if pieces of tissue or urine are spread around.”

He also advised using a different lavatory and notifying the flight attendant if you enter a bathroom and find previous passengers have left an overwhelming mess.
