Prince Philip Loved UFO’s

The late Prince Philip looked to the skies to watch for UFOs – and had amassed a large collection of books on the subject, according to reports.  He was fascinated with close encounters and was a regular subscriber of Flying Saucer Review, a quarterly magazine established in 1955, according to the UK’s Metro.  He first developed an interest in UFOs from his uncle Lord Mountbatten, who wrote an official report about a spaceship that reportedly landed on his estate in Romsey, Hampshire, in 1955, The Sun said.  Philip had given his former assistant Sir Peter Horsley, a senior Royal Air Force commander who died in 2001 at age 80, “carte blanche” to collect stories about UFOs from the RAF, according to Metro.  In his 1997 autobiography, “Sounds From Another Room,” Horsley described his own fascination with UFOs, which began when he was Philip’s equerry, or royal attendant, from 1949 to 1956.

Meghan Markle Going On Maternity Leave

Meghan Markle will go on maternity leave at the end of May.  She has been planning to take time off following her daughter’s birth.  Markle will be taking leave from her duties at Archewell, her nonprofit with husband Prince Harry, and all other professional endeavors. However, we’re told she always keeps an eye on everything because she’s a “workaholic.”  As a source who knows her says, she worked right through her last maternity leave with son Archie before giving birth in May 2019.  She managed to guest edit the British Vogue “Changemakers” edition and finalize the capsule wardrobe for the Smart Works charity, of which she was patron.  “She doesn’t stop,” said one source who knows her.  Markle has stayed at home in California while Harry has flown to the UK for his grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday.

Aaron Rodgers Gushes About his Fiancee

For Aaron Rodgers and fiancée Shailene Woodley, there’s nothing better than “cuddle time.”  During a recent Q&A for “Walt Disney World Minute,” the engaged couple spoke about ways they like to unwind as they continued to enjoy their vacation at the park.  “I like a bath, maybe a good glass of wine,” Woodley said, to which Rodgers replied, “I was going to say cuddle time, but since she went with her own thing, I’m going to say ‘Jeopardy!’ and a glass of scotch.”  When asked, “What always makes you smile?” both Rodgers and Woodley pointed to one another.  “This guy,” she gushed.  In February, Woodley confirmed her engagement to Rodgers shortly after the Green Bay Packers quarterback revealed he had a fiancée.  “For us it’s not new news, so it’s kind of funny everybody right now is freaking out over it,” the “Divergent” star said during an appearance on “The Tonight Show.” “We’re like, ‘Yeah we’ve been engaged for a while.’”

Ellen Sells Beverly Hills Mansion

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi sold their 10,300-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion for $47 million on April 9.  The sale was $6.5 million under their original $53.5 million asking price when they listed it for sale only weeks earlier, property records revealed.  They purchased the ivy-covered five-bedroom, nine-bathroom home in May 2019 for $45 million from Maroon 5’s Adam Levine.  The home also has two kitchens, a breakfast bar and a pantry. Before DeGeneres purchased the estate, Levine gave one of the kitchens a $200,000 facelift in May 2018, according to Beverly Hills permit records from May 2018.  It appears that they have done their own upgrades to the kitchen as well, adding wood details to create a warmer atmosphere, Realtor.com reported.

Dolly Parton Ice Cream (Double Scoop?)

Dolly Parton’s collaboration with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams debuted to rave reviews.  She created a new Strawberry Pretzel Pie flavor to benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.  The dessert company said the flavor is “sweet and salty, with timeless appeal, deep American roots, and makes you feel darn good.”  “It’s a throwback to the triple decker pie from the potlucks of our youths. Layers of salty pretzel streusel, subtly sweet and effortlessly tangy cream cheese ice cream, and lipstick red strawberry sauce,” Jeni’s added.  When the collab dropped last week, it sold out online and in some select Jeni’s locations forcing fans to buy on the secondary market.  A seller on eBay listed the ice cream for a staggering $1,000 for a pint.  Jeni’s updated fans on its future availability saying the company is “working around the clock” to get more products on shelves.

The recent documentary Finding Britney Spears gave a voice to the #FreeBritney movement, headed by fans concerned about the pop star’s 12-year legal conservatorship.  But one voice remained silent.  No longer:  On March 30, Britney Spears finally opened up about the controversial flick on Instagram.  Admitting she hadn’t watched the entire thing, the pop star wrote, “from what I did see of it, I was embarrassed by the light they put me in.”  So upset, she added, “I cried for two weeks.”  (In typically bizarre fashion, the post was accompanied by a clip of the 39-year-old dancing to Aerosmith’s “Crazy.”)  “She really values her privacy and finds all the public coverage unsettling,” an insider says.  In the wake of the doc, stars from her ex Justin Timberlake to Perez Hilton apologized for using her pain for profit.  “Reliving the past gives her mixed feelings.”  Instead, Brit prefers to look forward.  On March 23, she filed an official petition in a L.A. court to have dad Jamie Spears removed and replaced as her conservator.

Bowler Hits 7-10 Split

Professional bowler Anthony Neuer became the first competitor in the sport to convert a 7-10 split during a televised match in 30 years.  Neuer, 18, known as the Ginger Assassin, was competing against Jakob Butturff in the seventh frame of the U.S. Open semifinal match Sunday at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., when his first roll ended with a 7-10 split — two pins left standing on opposite sides of the lane.  Neuer’s second roll took out both pins, making him the first professional bowler to pick up a spare by converting a 7-10 split since Jess Stayrook accomplished the feat at the 1991 Tuscon Open. Neur became just the fourth professional bowler to manage the tricky shot in a match shown on TV.  “It was pretty cool, honestly. I mean, I’m not gonna say it was bad,” Neuer said during the United States Bowling Congress’s postgame show. “I wasn’t expecting it. I mean, I was walking away and I looked back and I seen it come across, and I was just shocked.”  See the shot HERE.

Bear Chased Off By Small Dogs

A bear got more than it bargained for when it wandered into a California home through an open door and was chased off by a pair of pint-sized pooches.  Deedee Mueller said she was napping in her Pasadena home on Saturday with multiple doors open to allow for fresh air to circulate through the home and so her dogs, Mei Mei and Squirt, could go in and out of the house as they pleased.  Mueller said she awoke when Mei Mei suddenly darted out of her bedroom and started barking loudly, with Squirt following close behind.  “Based on the barks, I knew something was up,” Mueller wrote on Facebook.  The home security cameras revealed a bear had wandered through the open door into the kitchen, where it was chased back out of the house by Mei Mei and Squirt.  “You could tell the bear looked nervous inside the house,” Mueller wrote.  See the video HERE.

Record For Stacking Bars Of Soap

An Idaho man said he had to grow out his fingernails to recapture a Guinness World Record for stacking wet bars of soup.  David Rush, who has broken more than 150 Guinness records to promote STEM education, said he had to grow out his fingernails so he could get a secure enough grip to take on the record for most bars of wet soap stacked in one minute.  Rush previously set the record at 30 bars of soap in one minute, but that mark was taken later by someone who stacked 32 bars.  The record-breaking enthusiast managed to recapture his title with 34 bars of soap stacked.  See the video HERE.

COVID-19 Vaccine Card: What You Need To Know

Huffington Post

Everyone who is vaccinated should receive a vaccine record card.

At your first vaccine appointment (or your only appointment, if you receive the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine), “you should get a vaccination card that tells you what COVID-19 vaccine you received, the date you received it, and where you received it,” according to the CDC.

The 4×3-inch card should say whether your vaccine was manufactured by Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson, as well as the dose numbers. It also notes when and where you got your doses.

Having some kind of official record of the “what” and “when” is vital. For one, it helps make it really clear when you should get your second shot (if you got a two-dose vaccine). But it could also be helpful months down the road. Many experts believe that future booster shots will be necessary, both because of the rise of new COVID-19 variants and because there are still a lot of questions about how long immunity lasts. If that happens, the card will help you know when you were vaccinated the first time around.

If you did not receive a COVID-19 vaccination card at your first appointment, you should contact the vaccination site you visited or your state health department (which is tracking who receives the vaccine) to find out how you can get one.

Take a picture of your card.

The CDC recommends that once you get your vaccine card, you should snap a picture of it (front and back) as a backup copy.

In fact, consider taking a photo after each dose you receive — and make sure that photo doesn’t just live on your phone.

“Keep the picture on your phone, and email yourself a copy to be safe,” Leana Wen, an emergency physician and public health professor at George Washington University, told CNN. She also said that she recommends making a photocopy that you store with other important documents.

But DON’T post it on social media.

You may be (understandably) excited and want to share the good news of your vaccination with friends and family online. But don’t do it.

“Your vaccination card has information on it including your full name, date of birth, where you got your vaccine, and the dates you got it. When you post it to Facebook, Instagram, or to some other social media platform, you may be handing valuable information over to someone who could use it for identity theft,” warns the Federal Trade Commission.

“Just by knowing your date and place of birth, scammers sometimes can guess most of the digits of your Social Security number,” the organization noted.

Keep your vaccine card in a safe spot.

The idea of “vaccine passports” is controversial, raising all kinds of legal and ethical questions about what schools, businesses and government leaders can and cannot require in terms of vaccination. And what form those “passports” might take is also unclear. A verification app? Some other form of proof?

However, for now, you don’t really need to regularly flash your vaccination as proof of inoculation. So while you certainly can carry it in your wallet or bag, you don’t actually need to.

“At this time, you do not need to carry your CDC vaccination card with you day-to-day,” according to guidance on the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center website. “Other than bringing it to your vaccination appointments, you can keep it in a safe location.” Experts recommend someplace secure and dry, where you store other important documents.

If you lose or damage your card ― or forget to bring it to your second appointment ― don’t fret.

If you misplace your vaccination card, either before your second appointment or after you’re fully vaccinated, don’t freak out. The CDC recommends you first contact your vaccination provider directly and they should be able to help you access your vaccination record. (If you enrolled in a program like V-Safe, the CDC’s after-vaccination health checker, you’ll be able to get your records there.)

It’s possible that the vaccine provider will be able to “recreate the card based on the data” it has available, experts have said, though the CDC doesn’t officially say anything about whether it will just hand you another replacement paper card.

If, for whatever reason, your vaccination site isn’t able to help you, the CDC says your next move should be to contact your state health department’s immunization information system. “Vaccination providers are required to report COVID-19 vaccinations to their IIS and related systems,” according to the agency.

One note of caution, however. As The Wall Street Journal reports, there isn’t actually a central, country-wide database for vaccinations. “States maintain an incomplete patchwork of records,” the publication warns. So while it’s likely you’ll be able to track down verification of your vaccination status, you really should try your best to keep your card safe and dry, and bring it with you to all your appointments.

Don’t worry about that expiration date.

The expiration date on your vaccination card doesn’t actually mean anything about how long you’ll be protected against COVID-19; it’s for vaccine administrators to know how long they have from the time the dose was bottled up and shipped until it needs to go into someone’s arm.

That’s because the vaccines can only be stored for a certain amount of time before they expire, which means they are less potent. They must also be stored and shipped according to specific instructions for that same reason.

Laminate it? It’s complicated.

Some public health officials have recommended against laminating your card, warning that it could render some cards that have been printed on thermal printer labels illegible. Others are anti-lamination in case you need boosters down the road and the card needs to be filled out more. (Though other experts note that if you do end up needing a booster down the road, it’s likely you’ll also be able to get a different card at that point.)

One less permanent alternative is to buy a clear plastic vaccine cardholder, although ultimately, experts say that if you’ve done most of the above — taken a photo and emailed it to yourself and stashed your card in a secure place — you really should be fine.
