Rolling Stones Drummer Charlie Watts Dies

Charlie Watts, the Rolling Stones drummer who helped anchor one of rock’s greatest rhythms sections and used his “day job” to support his enduring love of jazz, has died, according to his publicist. He was 80.  Bernard Doherty said Tuesday that Watts “passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family.”  “Charlie was a cherished husband, father and grandfather and also as a member of The Rolling Stones one of the greatest drummers of his generation,” Doherty said.  Watts had announced he would not tour with the Stones in 2021 because of an undefined health issue.  The quiet, elegantly dressed Watts was often ranked with Keith Moon, Ginger Baker and a handful of others as a premier rock drummer, respected worldwide for his muscular, swinging style as the band rose from its scruffy beginnings to international superstardom. He joined the Stones early in 1963 and remained over the next 60 years, ranked just behind Mick Jagger and Keith Richards as the group’s longest lasting and most essential member.  The Stones began, Watts said, “as white blokes from England playing Black American music” but quickly evolved their own distinctive sound. Watts was a jazz drummer in his early years and never lost his affinity for the music he first loved, heading his own jazz band and taking on numerous other side projects.

Tom Cruise Gives Ride In A Helicopter

A family in the U.K. got a surprise treat when Tom Cruise landed in a helicopter in their field, then let them go for a ride.  Cruise is in Europe filming the latest “Mission: Impossible” movie and was supposed to be shooting in Birmingham, U.K. The nearby airport was closed and Cruise, who was traveling by helicopter, needed a place to land, BBC News reports.  Alison Webb was asked if her field in nearby Warwickshire could be used to land a helicopter for an unnamed “VIP who was running late,” she told BBC News.  When the helicopter landed, none other than Tom Cruise emerged.   “I thought it would be kind of cool for the kids to see the helicopter land in the garden,” Webb said. “He [Tom Cruise] basically arrived and got out and it was like, wow.” Webb said Cruise immediately walked over to her children and “elbow bumped” them to say hello and thank them. “Then he said if the kids would like they could go up in the helicopter,” she said.   Cruise let the kids take a ride while he went to a meeting. “It turned out to be an incredible day,” Webb said. “It was surreal, I still now can’t believe it happened.”

Johnny Rotten Loses TV Lawsuit

Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon’s (Johnny Rotten) request to bar the use of the band’s songs in an upcoming TV series was denied by a judge in Great Britain on Monday after Lydon was sued by former Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook.  A British judge ruled that songs by punk trailblazers the Sex Pistols can be used in a forthcoming TV series despite the opposition of Johnny Rotten.  He tried to block the music’s use in a Disney-backed series titled, “Pistol,” which is based on a memoir by Jones and told the High Court last month that he “heart and soul” opposed the music’s use in a show he considered to be “nonsense.” He has previously expressed concerns the series will show him in a negative light.  He argued that the songs could not be licensed without his consent, however, Cook and Jones claimed during the court hearings that an agreement originally set back in 1998 allowed for a majority decision.  Judge Anthony Mann of the British High Court sided with Cook and Jones and said the pair were entitled to invoke “majority voting rules” as outlined in the band agreement.

Kanye West Re-Building Childhood Home On Stage

Kanye West is pulling out all of the stops for his next “Donda” listening party.  He is rebuilding his childhood home in the middle of Chicago’s Soldier Field, where he’ll be playing his forthcoming album on Thursday, according to online photos snapped from inside the stadium.  West wiped his entire Instagram account over the weekend and began uploading photos having only to do with “Donda” — and kicked off with a photo of the home he once shared with his beloved late mother, who the album is named after.  The Post obtained exclusive photos of West’s former 1,600-square-foot house, which has changed hands several times since Donda sold it in 2003 for $121,000.  In 2011, a camera crew even followed West as he visited the home with Jay-Z. It was also featured on a 2018 episode of “Keeping Up With Kardashians.” He ultimately bought the home back last year for $225,000.  “Donda” will serve as a tribute to his mother, who died in 2007.
******In case you didn’t know, Kanye was born in a log cabin in Illinois!!!!

Big Tipper

A customer at a Florida restaurant thanked the staff for “showing up and working hard” by leaving them a $10,000 tip.  The Wahoo Seafood Grill in Gainesville said in an Instagram post that a recent customer asked to speak with the eatery’s entire staff during a recent visit. The workers gathered in the dining area, where the man “thanked them for showing up and working hard.”  The man then announced that he would be tipping each of the 10 workers $1,000.  “I’m not usually an emotional guy, but this really got me. I’m blown away. We’re ALL blown away by his generosity,” owner Shawn Shepherd wrote in the post.  “The last year and a half hasn’t been easy on this industry. We’re hurting and we’re exhausted, but this incredible act of kindness has restored our faith in humanity.” See the post HERE.

Black Bear Encounter

A pair of Minnesota teenagers doing gardening at a friend’s house had a close encounter with a wandering black bear, and the incident was caught on camera.  Hailey Nelson, 17, and Dori Arndt, 15, were working in the front garden at the Centerville home of friend Hailey Nyberg, 17, when Nelson spotted what she initially thought to be Nyberg’s dog in the corner of her vision.  “We wanted money, so we decided to go pull some weeds and we’re just pulling some weeds, just talking, listening to some music, turn our heads and it’s just a black lab,” Nelson told WCCO-TV.  Nelson said a second look led to the surprise realization that the animal wasn’t a black lab. It was a black bear.  A security camera placed in one of the home’s windows recorded as the girls fled toward the house — and found the door was locked.  “So I’m pounding on the door saying, ‘Let us in!’ Screaming our heads off, just wanting to get inside! Then [Hailey Nyberg] pokes her head around the corner,” Nelson recalled.  Brian Nyberg, Hailey’s dad, opened the door and ushered Nelson and Arndt inside before going to get his daughter.  See the video HERE.

Cat Rescued After Domestic Fight

A Florida woman was arrested after allegedly tossing a caged cat into a river during a fight with her ex-boyfriend last week, authorities said.  Christa Thistle is accused of throwing the animal, which was in a crate, into the waterway at the Riverwood Park Campground in Oak Hill on Thursday after feuding with her ex over him not moving out of their RV quickly enough, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.  The man jumped into the river and rescued the cat, named Stanley, who was submerged for up to 20 seconds, according to the sheriff’s office.  When deputies arrived, Stanley was wet and shivering, but otherwise appeared to be in good condition.

People Try Livestock Meds To Fight COVID

The US Food and Drug Agency (FDA) has issued a warning to people not to take an anti-parasitic drug designed for livestock to treat or prevent COVID-19 following multiple reports of poisonings.  It follows a surge in reports to the Mississippi Start Department of Health regarding cases in which people had been poisoned by ingesting the drug Ivermectin, commonly used to de-worm cattle.  “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it,” the FDA tweeted, acknowledging “it’s perhaps not surprising that some consumers are looking at unconventional treatments” in a country where less than 52% of the population is fully vaccinated. In Mississippi, where 37% of the population is fully vaccinated, state authorities say they have received “an increasing number of calls from individuals with potential Ivermectin exposure taken to treat or prevent COVID-19 infection”.  The FDA said it had received “multiple reports of patients who have required medical support and been hospitalized after self-medicating with Ivermectin intended for horses”.  “Taking large doses of this drug is dangerous and can cause serious harm,” the agency has warned.
********Ahh…. but small doses???
*****The medical guidance is basically, “Cheap treatment doesn’t work!! You must use expensive, patented drugs!!!”

6 Exercises You Should Do In The Morning If You Wake Up Tired

Huffington Post

  1. Downward Dog

Start your a.m. with a downward dog to get your blood flowing and increase alertness.

One of the reasons you may not want to drag yourself out of bed is because your body is stiff from sleeping all night. This yoga pose is a great way to kickstart blood flow and wake up, said Megan Roup, founder of The Sculpt Society.

Starting on your hands and knees, stack your shoulders over your wrists and spread your palms out wide. Pressing through your palms, tuck your toes and lift your knees, pointing your hips toward the ceiling as you press down through the heels.

“To make this stretch more active, you can pedal out the feet while you actively press into the floor or bend and straighten both legs,” Roup said. Hold the pose for 15 seconds and repeat for three to four rounds.

  1. Hamstring Flossing

“This dynamic stretch helps to loosen up your hamstrings and your lower back more effectively than doing a static stretch, which may cause muscle spasms if your body isn’t properly warmed up,” said Theresa Marko, a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist in physical therapy and owner of Marko Physical Therapy.

To do this move, start by lying on the floor with knees bent and feet flat. Gently grab behind one of your thighs and straighten and bend the knee repeatedly (just make sure not to overextend your knee). This back-and-forth flossing motion will give your hamstring a stretch-and-release sensation. Do 10 repetitions on each side for two to three rounds.

  1. Wake-Up Bounce

Don’t underestimate the cardio and energy power of a little dancing.

“This is my go-to morning move that really wakes me up,” Jacobs said. “Choose a song that’s roughly three to five minutes and spend the duration of the song bouncing through the balls of your feet. You’ll start to increase blood flow ― not to mention sneak in a quick calf workout ― and may find that after the song ends your mood has improved, too.”

  1. Child’s Pose To Side Bend

It may seem counterproductive that one of the stretches to wake you up resembles a move that looks like you’re sleeping, but Khalil Jones, a certified personal trainer who also trains at Rumble Boxing in Philadelphia, said this move is great for stomach sleepers. This is because it can reset the spine after having the lower back rounded forward all night. (And reducing stiffness in your back allows you to move more freely and feel more energized.)

Kneeling on the floor, spread your knees hip-width apart and bend forward to place your torso between your thighs. Lengthen your tailbone and place your hands out to the side. Hold for 15 seconds for three to four rounds. As you come out of child’s pose, do a side bend: Grab one elbow with the opposite hand over your head and lean away from the elbow. This will stretch your back and triceps and improve mobility in your upper body.

  1. Hip Flexor Stretch

A hip flexor stretch can alleviate tightness in multiple parts of your body.

“Hip flexors are such an important muscle,” Marko said. “Tight hamstrings can tug on your lumbar spine, and this can cause pain.”

Dropping down into a half kneeling position, do a slight pelvic tilt, lunging yourself forward to stretch your hip flexors. Hold for 15 seconds, repeating for three to four rounds.

If you feel too tight to try this, start by lying on the floor first, knees bent and feet flat. Keep your knees together and rock your legs side to side. Next, let your knees fall all the way down to one side to get a more intense stretch on your lower back. Switch sides, holding for 15 seconds each time, and then try the hip flexor stretch again.

  1. Lateral Breathing

If you just can’t get yourself out of bed to stretch and move before you need to be productive, don’t sweat it. Nikki Chrysostomou, a licensed movement therapist and founder of Movement Integration, said you can practice this stimulating stretch anywhere ― in the car, at your desk or even on your bed.

All you need to do is inhale and exhale deeply and focus your mind on getting the breath into your sides. If it’s helpful, you can place your hands on your ribcage to help you monitor where your breath is going.

“Lateral breathing helps to stimulate the mind,” Chrysostomou said. “To do this, work on taking breath away from the stomach. Think of breathing into the back of your ribcage, into the sides of the ribs and into your armpits. This creates a bucket-handle effect, with the ribs expanding out, and can perk you up.”
