Jennifer Garner got extremely emotional when she finished binge-watching “The Office” with her children on Monday.  She revealed on Instagram that she’s been watching the sitcom, set at the fictional paper company Dunder Mifflin, with her kids  — Violet, Samel and Seraphina Affleck — as a quarantine activity.  Unbeknownst to Garner she caught a video of herself in slow motion while she was in tears watching the finale episode.  She wore a black Dunder Mifflin T-shirt and sat in front of a board sign that said, “Thank you, Dunder Mifflin.”  “My kids and I have spent months piled on the couch working our way through “How to Behave as Grownups”, aka #TheOffice,” she captioned the video of her in tears.  Garner added: “Apparently we are sensitive people—the finale hit us pretty hard.”  “When I realized I’d accidentally shot my farewell testimonial in slo-mo I realized: your Monday might need this, too. #thankyoucastandcrew #pleasecomeoverweloveyou #icantwithfinales,” the mom-of-three concluded.

Kevin Hart Had The COVID

Kevin Hart said in a stand-up set over the weekend that he tested positive for COVID-19 early in the pandemic.  Performing at the latest iteration of Dave Chappelle’s An Intimate Socially Distanced Affair show in Yellow Springs, Ohio, Hart said of his diagnosis, “The problem is that I had it around the same time as Tom Hanks, and I couldn’t say anything because he’s more famous than I am.”  A source told Page Six that Chappelle has spent $100,000 on coronavirus rapid testing for attendees of the outdoor shows he’s held this summer, with other performers including Donnell Rawlings, Bill Burr, Michelle Wolf, Questlove and Tobe Nwigwe.

Megan Fox Trolled After New Romance

Megan Fox says she’s still getting heat for moving on with Machine Gun Kelly.  “For whatever reason, people are very trigger happy to call me stupid or call me vain or call me a slut, which is crazy. I was in the same relationship for 15 years, you know?” Fox told “Entertainment Tonight,” referring to her marriage to now-estranged-husband Brian Austin Green.  “It’s bizarre, this image that gets projected onto me that people have just accepted and that’s lived for over a decade,” she continued, “and that I never really did anything to earn in the first place.”  Fox has learned to block out the criticism and negativity and instead focus on what’s best for her, even as she struggles with the strict rules of quarantine.  “My life changed so much during the quarantine. It’s crazy,” Fox said. “I’m not somebody who’s ever done well with authority or being restricted by authority, so this has been really challenging for me. It’s taught me a lot of patience, honestly, and I had to surrender.”
*******And she surrendered … to Machine Gun Kelly!!
*******Maybe people think she’s a slut because she’s so hot!! It happened to us, too!!

Lost Tortoise Found

A Tennessee woman said her pet tortoise escaped from her home and was on the loose for 74 days before being located about an eighth of a mile from her home.  Lynn Cole said her 150-pound Sulcata tortoise, Solomon, escaped from her home via unknown means June 8 and the 15-year-old reptile was nowhere to be found.  “If you knew the number of searches that were launched by ourselves, and other community groups and individuals,” Cole told CNN. “He just eluded our ability to spot him.” Cole posted in missing pets Facebook groups and contacted local zoos in the hopes of locating Solomon. She said his species, also known as the African spurred tortoise, are used to the hot North African climate and she was concerned her pet’s health would be endangered when local temperatures cool.  She said Solomon had been on the loose for about 74 days when she received word that an animal matching his description was spotted at a construction site near her home.

TSA Reunites Bride With Dress

An administrative assistant for the Transportation Security Administration was able to reunite a wedding dress left at a TSA checkpoint with the bride, who was due to be married the next day.  The TSA said the roller bag containing the bride’s gown and the mother of the bride’s dress was left behind by the mother at Newark Liberty International Airport’s security checkpoint as she traveled from New Jersey to the wedding in Columbus, Ohio.  The bride’s brother, Christopher Cepeda, submitted an online form to the TSA’s Lost and Found office at the airport. The brother of the bride said his heart sank when he saw the estimated time to receive a response was about five days.  “As soon as I submitted the request, we lost hope of retrieving the luggage on time for the wedding,” Cepeda said.  Loletta Nathan-Gordon, a TSA administrative assistant at the Newark airport, saw the form on the day it was submitted and decided to take swift action. “I put myself in the bride’s shoes. I could only imagine how stressful that would have been for me if my mom would have left the dress behind. I would have freaked out,” Nathan-Gordon said.  She located the bag in the TSA Lost and Found and coordinated with Cepeda to have it shipped overnight for an early-morning delivery.  “She literally saved my sister’s wedding,” Cepeda said. “If it wasn’t for her, everything would have been a disaster.”

Guy Uses Bud Light To Extinguish Wildfire

A California man attempting to defend his home from a wildfire said he turned to an unusual source of help when his water was shut off: several cases of Bud Light beer.  Chad Little said he decided to stay behind when his family evacuated their Vacaville home last week as the LNU Lightning Complex Fires approached their neighborhood.  Little said he had hoses set up around the house to provide a consistent source of water to keep the flames away from the house, but he started worrying when the water to the area was shut off.  The homeowner, whose house previously burned down five years ago in a fire sparked by an attic fan, said he grabbed one of his 30-packs of Bud cans.  “That was the only thing I had that I had a lot of, and it was wet,” he told The Vacaville Reporter. “Luckily, I had a bunch of cases of Bud Light and I was able to get it out.”  Little pulled away some sheet metal from the wall of his workshop and used an exposed nail to pop holes in the cans.  “When I ripped up the sheet metal, it had a nail, so I was just shaking it up, popping it just and spraying them, popping it out and grabbing another one,” Little told KCRA-TV. “My buddies all tease me about drinking water beer, and I say, ‘Hey, saved my shop.'”

6 Financial Considerations for Parents Thinking of Quitting Work

PennyHoarder.com

  1. Can I Take Paid Leave?

Before quitting your job, you might want to look into taking a leave of absence instead.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act has provisions for parents to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave through Dec. 31 if they need to care for a child whose school is closed or whose child care provider is unavailable due to the pandemic.

You can take the leave intermittently (perhaps trading off child care duties with your spouse or a grandparent) or all at once.

Your paychecks will be lighter, because this paid leave covers only two-thirds of your salary. There are also a few restrictions with this law:

  • It only applies to certain public employees and private companies with less than 500 employees.
  • You have to have been employed by your company for at least 30 days.
  • You have to be unable to telework.

You also won’t be able to take this leave if your child’s school is open, but you choose a virtual education option instead.

If you don’t qualify, that doesn’t mean that a similar arrangement can’t be made with your employer. Talk to your boss about your situation and if other accommodations can be made.

  1. Can I Adjust My Schedule?

Perhaps you aren’t able to take a paid (or unpaid) leave of absence from work, but maybe you can rearrange your schedule to create a better balance between work and child care duties.

That could mean working virtually (if you aren’t already) or adjusting your schedule. You might be able to reduce your hours or switch to part-time work. Perhaps you can work in the evenings and weekends instead of during the day when your child needs your attention and assistance with virtual school.

  1. Can Our Family Live Off Less Income?

Spend time crunching the numbers to determine whether you can feasibly afford to quit work right now.

Jen Hemphill, an accredited financial counselor and founder of the Her Dinero Matters podcast, suggests examining all your regular expenses and assessing what are true priorities and what you could do without. Compare those necessary expenses to the household income you’ll be left with if you quit work.

“Does [your remaining income] fully meet the expenses?” Hemphill asks. “If it does — great. If it doesn’t, how much is needed to supplement, to make those ends meet?”

Create a bare bones budget to find out how much money you absolutely need to bring in to cover everything essential.

  1. What Expenses Can I Cut?

Living on a reduced income often requires significant reductions in spending.

Groceries and eating out are common areas people overspend, Hemphill says, so you might want to start there.

Save money on groceries by using coupons and cash-back sites, going generic, buying in bulk, avoiding impulse purchases, buying what’s in season and planning meals based on what’s on sale. Meal prepping once or twice a week means you’ll be less enticed to order takeout after a long day.

Another thing to scan your bank statements for are monthly subscriptions you can do without. Subscriptions may seem inexpensive on their own, but collectively they can really add up, Hemphill says.

Also, just because a bill is essential, doesn’t mean you can’t change how much you’re spending.

“Look at all your bills,” Hemphill says. “Don’t be afraid to call and negotiate.”

Yes, you need car insurance, but could you get a discount now that you’re not commuting each day? Cell phone service is a must, but can you switch to a cheaper provider?

  1. How Long Will My Savings Last?

Before the pandemic, having an emergency fund to cover three to six months of living expenses was great. Now, that may not be enough to keep your family financially secure.

Hemphill said a family that’s considering having one parent leave the workforce should ideally have about 12 months of expenses saved up. That can be a major challenge — especially for families living paycheck to paycheck.

That’s why cutting expenses and looking for supplemental income are often more practical courses of action than relying on pulling money from savings.

And not all savings sources should be treated equally. Hemphill recommends against tapping into retirement savings or your home equity unless it’s the last resort.

Your emergency fund, however, is fair game. If a pandemic and shuttered schools don’t qualify as an emergency, what does?

Additionally, if you had been saving money for a nice vacation, new car or another big purchase, consider pushing off those expenses and using that money to tide you over.
