American Idol Judges Returning

Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, along with host Ryan Seacrest, are returning for American Idol Season 20.  Good Morning America made the announcement on Tuesday. Season 20 will mark the fifth season to air on ABC.  Live, virtual auditions for Season 20 begin this Friday through the show’s Idol Across America program.  Chayce Beckham was crowned the winner of American Idol Season 19 in May. He won over Willie Spence, who came in second place, and Grace Kinstler, who came in third place.

Duran Duran Turned Down Michael Jackson

The members of Duran Duran say they once turned down a song with the late Michael Jackson.  Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor and Roger Taylor appeared on Monday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live, where Rhodes recalled how the band once turned down a collaboration with Jackson.  Rhodes said the band had just returned from a tour in 1983 when Jackson called him at home.  “I get home and the phone rings, and my mum says, ‘Oh, there’s somebody on the phone for you. He says his name’s Michael Jackson,'” Rhodes said.  “I thought it was one of our crew winding me up, because they said, ‘Oh, Michael wants to do a song with you,'” he added. “Anyway, I start talking to the person on the phone and saying, ‘So, Michael. How you doing?’ ‘Oh hi, I’m fine.'”  Rhodes said he eventually realized it really was Jackson on the phone. He approached his bandmates the next day but no one was interested in making a song.  “He was keen to make a record, and I go to everyone the next day … and say, ‘Hey, Michael Jackson called last night. Do you fancy maybe doing a song?’ They all went, ‘Nah,'” Rhodes said.  On WWHL, the members of Duran Duran also shared the best advice they received from a fellow musician. “Stick together,” Rhodes said. “Well, it was from Mick Jagger, so I had no choice.”  Rhodes said Jagger gave them the advice after Duran Duran had “already lasted longer than the Sex Pistols and almost as long as the Beatles.”  See the interview HERE.

Meghan Markle’s Low Key Birthday

Meghan Markle will celebrate a low-key 40th birthday today though husband Prince Harry may still whisk her off on an intimate getaway.  There are no plans for a big party for her, who only recently gave birth to her daughter Lilibet.  While it was rumored that Markle is having a bash with Oprah Winfrey’s A-list party planner Colin Cowie, this is absolutely not happening.  Both Harry and Markle are still on parental leave following the arrival of their daughter in June. Things will be quiet with their newborn and their 2-year-old son Archie — especially amid the worsening Covid-19 situation in their new home state of California.  She turns 40 just months before her sister-in-law Kate Middleton — who will celebrate her milestone birthday in January. Brother-in-law Prince William will turn 40 next June.

Anderson Cooper has listed his late mother Gloria Vanderbilt’s longtime New York City home two years after her passing for $1.125 million.  Located in Midtown East at 30 Beekman Place, the two-bedroom, two-full-bathroom apartment belonged to the late New York icon for more than two decades.   The listing describes the property as “ideal for a discerning client who will delight in owning the former home and sanctuary of one of the 20th century’s most significant and highly admired icons; an artist, designer, writer and true renaissance woman.”  Facing the river, features of the home include an oversized windowed foyer with high ceilings and easy access to the river promenade.  The price doesn’t include the $4,311 monthly maintenance fee that will come with owning the property.

Dog The Bounty Hunter Owes From Arrest

Dog the Bounty Hunter reportedly owes nearly $1million in unpaid legal fees stemming from his 2003 arrest in Mexico.  He was arrested in Puerto Vallarta nearly two decades ago for capturing fugitive rapist Andrew Luster, a crime in itself as bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico.  While the charges were eventually dropped, Dog got into a disagreement about his lawyer’s fees and eventually sued, only to lose the suit years later with a judgement forcing him to pay $880,916.  He was hit with a $880,000 judgement in 2013 in California for failing to pay legal fees, but new documents were filed in his home state of Hawaii, according to TMZ.

I had an extraordinary day off in Madrid, where I’m working on this western [The English].  I had this wild lunch at this wacky place that looked like an abattoir [butchery].  And then, at night, I took a bunch of the cast to see flamenco.  It was worth every martini.

I was shooting, and there were these jumping crickets everywhere.  And one jumped directly onto my cheek.  Like a bullet.  I definitely blew the roof off that place.

Last guilty pleasure-

Probably a double cheeseburger from Burger King.  When I was starting out, I was doing this play, and every night before the play-for four months-I would get a double cheeseburger at Burger King.

Woman Dodges Calls Only To Win Lottery

An Australian woman who dodged multiple calls from what she suspected to be scammers was shocked when she finally answered the phone and learned she had won a nearly $1.5 million lottery jackpot.  The Launceston, Tasmania, woman told The Lott officials she had been avoiding their phone calls because she didn’t recognize the number.  “This is crazy! I never answer calls from numbers I don’t know because I always think they’re nuisance people who are trying to do something naughty,” the woman said. “But you called me so many times that I thought I’d just answer it and see what it was about.”  The woman was told she had won a $1.47 million jackpot in the July 31 TattsLotto drawing. The player bought her ticket from the Festival Westbury Lotto Outlet in Westbury.  The winner said she and her family are planning to be “very sensible” with their prize money.

Turtle Survives Crash Thru Windshield!

Emergency responders in Florida said they were summoned to an unusual scene where an airborne turtle crashed through a driver’s windshield — and survived.  The St. Lucie County Fire District said in a Facebook post that police and firefighters responded to the Florida Turnpike in northern St. Lucie County on a report of a turtle crashing through a driver’s windshield.  The fire district said the turtle had apparently been struck by a semi truck on the highway and sent flying into the other vehicle’s windshield.  “Both driver and turtle were unharmed,” the fire district said. “The turtle was released safely.”

Bear Wanders Into Restaurant

A bear wandering on the sidewalk in a Tennessee city draw a crowd of onlookers when it darted through a door into an open restaurant.  Kacie Faulling Myers, a South Carolinian visiting Gatlinburg with her family, captured video of pedestrians flocking to the windows of Crawdaddy’s Restaurant & Oyster Bar after a bear ran into the eatery.  “Can you imagine sitting in the restaurant and a bear coming out?” Faulling Myers says in the video.  Faulling Myers also captured photos of the bear wandering on the sidewalk outside Crawdaddy’s and getting within arm’s reach of several pedestrians.  An employee at Crawdaddy’s said the bear entered through the front door and ran up a staircase, and then turned around and left.  The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said bears are a common sight in Gatlinburg, and offered advice for steering clear of the wild animals. The agency said bears typically will not act aggressively toward humans, but people always should keep a safe distance from them.  See the video HERE.

Diver Finds Missing iPhone

A diver searching for treasure at the bottom of a Scottish river recovered an iPhone that turned out to have been dropped by a woman more than a year earlier.  Shane Stephen, who documents the objects he finds during his dives on TikTok, said he got permission to dive in the Water of Leith and went down to see what lost objects he could recover.  Stephen said he was bringing a Just Eat rental bike back to the surface when he spotted a red iPhone in the water.  The diver said the device’s SIM card was still intact, and he was able to retrieve enough information from it to allow cellphone service provider O2 to identify and contact the owner.  Stephen said he was able to return the phone to its owner, who told him she had lost it in the water more than a year earlier.  South Carolina angler Jason Robinson was able to facilitate a similar reunion in July when he felt a tug on the end of his line while fishing the Waccamaw River and reeled in an iPhone.
