Jeff Bezos Throws Party For Lauren Sanchez
Jeff Bezos threw girlfriend Lauren Sanchez an “intimate” birthday dinner over the weekend following a lavish party with some of Hollywood’s biggest names. Sanchez took to Instagram on Monday to express her “gratitude” for all the love she received from her friends and billionaire beau while celebrating her 53rd birthday. “First and foremost, I was blessed to have such an incredible birthday celebration thrown by my dear friend Laura Andreeseen (my wonder twin), from the helicopter cake, to the poem she wrote, to the most beautiful setting in the world,” Sanchez captioned a video montage from the weekend. The helicopter pilot went on to say the day was “pure perfection” after getting to spend it with the “most incredible and supportive women” — including Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Kimora Lee Simmons. The over-the-top party was hosted at a stunning home on the beach and complete with a helicopter cake that read, “Hottest 25th birthday.” After spending time with some of her closest girl friends, Sanchez met up with Bezos and the rest of her friends and family for a second celebration. “Then…my love surprised me with an intimate dinner where he gave a speech that had everyone in the room laughing and crying,” she wrote. “And, of course, my children each had their own special way of saying happy birthday which filled my heart.”

James Cameron Has A Message For Matt Damon
“Avatar” director James Cameron joked that Matt Damon shouldn’t feel blue about his decision to turn down the leading role in the original film. In a recent interview with BBC Radio, Cameron was asked about Damon’s decision to pass on playing Jake Sully while publicizing the long-awaited sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water.” “He’s beating himself up over this,” Cameron said with a guffaw Friday. “And I really think, you know, ‘Matt, you’re kind of like one of the biggest movie stars in the world, get over it.’ But he had to do another ‘Bourne’ film which was on his runway and there was nothing we could do about that. So he had to regretfully decline.” A clip of Damon went viral last year after the actor revealed at the Cannes Film Festival that Cameron courted him in 2009 to star in the blockbuster, offering him 10% of the film’s box office profits. The role eventually went to Sam Worthington and “Avatar” went on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time, bringing in $2 billion worldwide — which would have netted Damon more than $250 million. “I will go down in history,” Damon told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “You will never meet an actor who turned down more money.”

Yellowstone Premiere Sets Records
The premiere of 1923, the star-driven Yellowstone prequel, drew a sizable cross-platform audience Sunday night. Paramount Global says 7.4 million people watched the premiere episode, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as ancestors of Yellowstone’s Dutton family. That figure includes four cable telecasts — three on Paramount Network and one on CMT — plus streaming on Paramount+, where 1923 will run for the remainder of its season. The first airing on Paramount Network drew 4.12 million viewers, making it the most watched series premiere on cable in 2022. CMT’s simulcast of the premiere brought in 559,000 viewers for a total of 4.68 million — about 63 percent of the total for the night. The rest came from replays and streaming. Sunday’s Yellowstone, which led into 1923, averaged 7.72 million viewers on Paramount Net, in line with its performance the past couple weeks.

E.T. Model Sells Big
The original mechatronic model of the little alien from Steven Spielberg’s 1982 sci-fi classic “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” sold over the weekend for a staggering $2.56 million, according to the auction organizers. The filming model, created by Oscar-winning special effects master Carlo Rambaldi in 1981, went under the hammer as part of the “Icons and Idols: Hollywood” sale put on by Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “Considered an engineering masterpiece, this one-of-a-kind animatronic figure, featuring 85 points of articulation, pre-dates the advent of CGI (Computer Graphic Imagery) effects in filmmaking, and was designed, developed and engineered in 1981,” the lot description read. The big-eyed alien, whose movements included facial expressions, neck movements, as well as the famous pointing of its glowing finger, was brought to life by a team of animators using electronic and mechanical elements. According to the auction listing, Spielberg described the E.T. model as “the eighth wonder of the movie world.” A maquette of E.T., made for Spielberg to approve the character’s design, also sold for $125,000, while the Kuwahara BMX bike ridden by the character “Greg” in the film was bought for $115,200. The sale of the E.T. memorabilia coincides with the 40th anniversary of the film’s release.

Truckload Of Onions Catch Fire
Firefighters responded to a Florida highway where a blown-out tire caused a trailer loaded with thousands of pounds of onions to catch fire. Ocala Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post that multiple crews responded to a report of a freight vehicle fire on Interstate 75, just south of exit 354. The crews arrived to find an open trailer being hauled by a pickup truck was “fully engulfed in flames.” The driver, who had exited the vehicle, told firefighters the blaze was sparked when one of the truck’s tires blew out. The trailer had been carrying six cargo bins loaded with a total of about 6,000 pounds of onions. See the video HERE.

Couple Has 133 Christmas Trees
An Alberta couple filled their home with 133 decorated Christmas trees to raise money for a local animal shelter. Tom Kereluk and Vince Jackman said they first filled their Red Deer home with Christmas trees and opened the doors to the public about 15 years ago, when they had 15 decorated trees in their home. The couple said the number of trees has increased every year, to a total 133 trees this year. The pair said the tours they give of their tree-filled home raise money for the Central Alberta Humane Society. Jackman said the current crop of trees, which feature in every room of their home, including the garage, include trees up to 12 feet tall. The pair said many of the ornaments on the trees were donated by friends, family and members of the public. “We’re kind of hoarders at heart,” Kereluk told CTV News. “I just can’t throw anything out so I make trees that have stuff that I already have or I see something in a thrift store. I just create something from things that people would have thrown out.” The annual event was dubbed “Sofia Celebrates Christmas” five years ago, after the couple’s beloved chihuahua, Sophia, died after years of health complications.

When Should Christmas Dinner Be Served?
Christmas dinner is arguably one of the best parts of the festive period. Whether you’re a turkey and all the trimmings sort of person or a nut roast is more your thing, there’s no denying that coming together with family, friends, or other loved ones to eat is glorious and Brits really look forward to it. But one thing that people across the UK cannot agree on, much like whether it’s ‘tea’, or ‘dinner’, is what time Christmas dinner is best served. Many families have it as a lunch, while some prefer to have it later, but what is the general consensus? Well, the Midland hotel surveyed over 2,500 Brits to reveal their festive food habits over the holidays, and the results may be controversial for some families. One per cent of people choose to eat their Christmas dinner at 10am, with another one per cent choosing to eat as late as 8pm. It turns out that the most popular time to tuck into the turkey and trimmings is 2pm, with 28 per cent of Brits enjoying their dinner at that time, shortly followed by 3pm, which sees 23 per cent of people devouring dinner then. The results also found that men prefer to eat at 3pm, whereas the ultimate time to tuck in for women is 2pm, so slightly earlier. The Midland also found that 57 per cent of Brits prefer to eat Christmas dinner in their own homes, rather than going elsewhere.

Oldest Chicken
A Michigan woman is seeking Guinness World Records recognition for her pet chicken, Peanut, who is believed to be the oldest in the world at the age of 20. Marsi Parker Darwin of Waterloo said a friend urged her to apply online to have Peanut recognized as the world’s oldest living chicken, and she received a response about two weeks later with instructions on how to gather evidence including photos, videos, witness statements and media coverage. “I’m hoping they’ll give credence to my witnesses like my niece in her thirties who loved Peanut as a teen and a friend who moved to California 18 years ago and loved Peanut and was astonished when he moved back to see her again, among others,” Darwin told The Sun Times News. Darwin said she started rescuing chickens in the 1990s, and in the early 2000s a Nankin hen laid a clutch of eggs in her coop after a love affair with a Mille Fleurs rooster. Darwin said one of the eggs failed to hatch, and she was preparing to throw it away into a pond for the fish and turtles when she heard a faint chirp. “I ended up peeling it out of the egg. As the chirping grew fainter, I feared the chick would not survive. A pitifully wet, wadded-up mess sat in my hand. I wrapped it in a towel and carried it close to my heart as I set up a cage and mounted a heat lamp with one hand,” she said. The chick, Peanut, was rejected by her mother, and had imprinted on Darwin. “I realized I had a house chicken, at least for the time being,” she said.

6 Apps You Really Should Use To Spy On Your Kids
HUFFINGTON POST
Although the app only works for phones, Bark is a popular choice that claims to have detected over 629,000 severe harm situations and 2.6 million severe bullying situations. Bark allows parents to block websites and apps, manage screen time, get location updates, and monitor text messages, video sites, emails, and over 30 social networks. The app screens for everything from inappropriate conversations with strangers to signs of depression or suicidal thoughts, shooting alerts immediately to parents if anything concerning is detected. There is even a Samsung Bark phone with Bark monitoring built in.
Cost: Free seven-day trial, then $5 for the younger kid version, $14 for premium. Plans include unlimited family members. The phone-included plan is $49 a month.
Qustodio allows parents to set limits on kids’ overall daily screen time, like many of the other apps on this list, but it also allows them to set limits for individual apps as well as block out numerous time periods each day, such as homework time, dinnertime and bedtime. The easy-to-use app blocks inappropriate content, monitors what kids are looking at, and offers location tracking and notifications when kids arrive at set locations. It also allows parents to view contacts, calls, and messages, and sends them daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports. It can be used across computers, phones and tablets with Android or iOS operating systems.
Cost: Free for one device, then starts at $54.95 per year for five devices. You can get a free three-day trial.
If you aren’t interested in monitoring your kid’s internet usage, but want to know your kids are safe physically, this app zeroes in on location tracking, monitoring your child’s location and shooting you notifications when they reach set landmarks, and even allows you to listen in on your child’s surroundings. (This feature isn’t available on iPhones.) If your child is in danger and they can’t call you, they can send you an SOS signal, giving you their exact location while their phone automatically begins recording audio. If your child doesn’t have a phone, there’s a Find My Kids watch available.
Cost: For one device: $2.99 a month or $33.98 a year ($16.99 at the time of writing because of promotion). For up to three devices: $42.99 a year. Minutes for live listening function cost $1 per 30 minutes, $4.49 for 180 minutes, $14.99 for unlimited each month.
This is a free and easy-to-use app that allows parents to monitor app usage, set limits on screen time, and track kids’ locations. Using Google Maps along with the app will allow you to be notified when your children reach set destinations. Although parents can’t restrict screen time for individual apps, they can block individual apps. Google Family Link also allows parents to manage in-app purchases so kids can’t go on a spending spree. Once a child reaches 13, they need to consent to continue to be monitored with this app.
Cost: Free
The free Kaspersky plan is a decent option if you don’t need all the features. The free plan includes web and app content filtering, YouTube filtering, app usage control, and screen time limits. The paid plan includes GPS location tracking, a battery tracker and real-time alerts for if kids go to inappropriate sites or wander away from set locations. Kaspersky Safe Kids works across platforms and can be used on unlimited devices.
Cost: Free or $14.99 per month for premium.
Although Net Nanny doesn’t monitor phone calls or text messages, it shines when it comes to real-time alerts if a child searches for blocked content or porn, suicide, weapons and drug-related content. It also “masks” profanity on websites, censoring words instead of blocking entire sites, so kids can do research for homework without having sites restricted because of a curse word in the comments section. In addition to that, it has many of the features the other programs have, including location tracking and screen time management.
Cost: $39.99-$129.99 per year, depending on the number of devices monitored and promotions running
No matter how much you choose to monitor your kids, they will make mistakes, and it’s important to remember that’s a step in their growth. Graber said you want them to know they can come to you and that you will say something like, “I have been there. Let’s not do it again. Here’s what you can do differently.”
