Bob Dylan’s Song Catalog Sold

Universal Music Publishing Group announced Monday it has acquired music legend Bob Dylan’s complete song catalog, which spans 60 years.  The terms of the deal were not disclosed.  “It’s no secret that the art of songwriting is the fundamental key to all great music, nor is it a secret that Bob is one of the very greatest practitioners of that art,” Lucian Grainge, chairman and chief executive officer of Universal Music Group, said in a statement.   He is known for his hits “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are a-Changin’,” “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Lay Lady Lay,” “Forever Young,” “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” “Tangled Up In Blue,” “Gotta Serve Somebody,” “Make You Feel My Love” and “Things Have Changed.”  Dylan, 79, has earned 10 Grammy Awards, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Golden Globe and an Oscar throughout his storied career.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Suffers Holiday Injury

Catherine Zeta-Jones shared a video on Instagram in which she revealed that she’d injured her foot while decorating.  She recounted the incident on Sunday while giving fans a gander at her foot as she iced it. “So, I was putting up my Christmas decorations and an iron rod that’s supposed to be a sculpture — which I don’t even like — fell on my foot, and it hurts,” said the actress in the clip. “Happy Sunday.”  “Ziplock Zeta foot fashion!” she captioned the post. “Ice ice baby.”  In a follow-up video, Zeta-Jones showed off her decor, which featured a Christmas tree decorated with red hearts and glowing lights.  “Thank you for all your well wishes,” she said. “I hurt my foot doing this. Was it worth it?”

Lifetime and KFC revealed on Monday that Mario Lopez will play Colonel Sanders in A Recipe for Seduction, which is being touted as a “Lifetime Original Mini-Movie Presented by Kentucky Fried Chicken,” but is surely just a long commercial. “Some folks take their secrets to the grave, but Colonel Sanders takes his to the deep fryer,” reads promo copy on the KFC Facebook page, while the “movie” poster features the teaser line, “We All Have Our Secrets, His Just Happens to Be… A Recipe for Seduction.” The official synopsis on Lifetime’s website says, “As the holidays near, an heiress (played by Bosch alum Justene Alpert) contends with the affections of a suitor handpicked by her mother. When the handsome chef arrives with his secret recipe and a dream, he sets in motion a series of events that unravel the mother’s plans.” See the trailer HERE.

Gwen Stefani Talks Wedding Day

Gwen Stefani appears eager to tie the knot with longtime boyfriend Blake Shelton but notes there are some hurdles to cross first.  They announced they got engaged back in October after five years of dating.  She appeared on “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” on Monday, where she spilled details of her dream nuptials to the country star and how the coronavirus pandemic will impact it.  “It’s so funny to even say ‘engaged.’ It feels so weird. People have been saying it for so long, like five years, ‘Are you getting married? Are you engaged?’ And now we actually are and it feels like I’m in a cartoon or something,” Stefani told Seacrest, via People magazine.  She said her one request is for her parents to be in attendance when she walks down the aisle, noting that the global pandemic makes it difficult to nail down a date.  “I would say I just want my parents there at this point. My parents wouldn’t come to Thanksgiving because they’re so scared so really would rather it not be a COVID situation. Like, I would rather not have masks and that kind of thing,” Stefani said.
*******They have to get a DNA test to make sure they’re the same species!!
*******If she’s waiting out the Great COVID Panic, they’ll be getting married sometime in 2025!!!!

Madonna Gets Her First Tattoo

Madonna has debuted a new wrist tattoo of the letters “LRDMSE,” a tribute to her family.  The ink marks her first tattoo, and includes one initial for each of her kids: Lourdes, 24, Rocco, 20, David, 15, Mercy, 14, and 8-year-old twins Estere and Stella.  “Inked for The Very First Time,” she wrote on Instagram Monday night.  She posted photos documenting each step in the process – from her consultation with tattoo artist East Iz at Hollywood’s Shamrock Social Club to the final design.  In the photos, she is still sporting the bright pink hair she debuted in October.    The permanent family tribute came shortly after Madonna shared a rare holiday video featuring all six of her children. Her eldest, Lourdes Leon, recently starred in a Juicy Couture underwear campaign.  See the pics HERE.

Third Time’s the Harm For Khole & Tristan-(National Enquirer)

Unlucky-in-love Khole Kardashian’s on-again, off-again relationship with baby daddy Tristan Thompson has hit the rocks, sources said.  Following their third bid to kiss and make up, fans noticed 36-year-old Khole is not longer following the hoopster on Instagram!  She also shared a cryptic post captioned:  “You glow different when you’re not hating, hurting, bitter or messy.”

The Ballad of Sean and Yoko-(Globe)

Imagine.  Reclusive ailing widow Yoko Ono, 87, finally loosened the reins and is handing over her $800 million empire to Sean Lennon, her only child with Beatles legend John Lennon.  The oddball artist managed her late husband’s skyrocketing fortune since his tragic 1980 death, but now her 45-year-old son will reportedly run the rich family biz.  You may recall, John’s eldest son, Julian, from his first marriage, was left out of the hitmaker’s will.  Many years later, never-married Julian, now 57, eventually eked out a reported $25 million settlement-okayed by stepmom Yoko after he dragged his famous dad’s estate to court.  All you need is love?  Nah.

Missing Royal Much?-(Us Weekly)

For someone who didn’t enjoy being part of The Firm, Meghan Markle sure seems interested in them.  The 39-year-old who relinquished her senior royal duties with husband Prince Harry in March, “has started watching [Netflix’s] The Crown,” a source says, and “she isn’t watching it behind Harry’s back.”  (A big plot of the fourth season which was released earlier this month, follows the courtship between Harry’s parents, Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana!) Harry, 36, for his part, hasn’t been joining Meghan at the TV.  Adds the source:  “He’s just not interested in seeing it.”

Olivia & Jason:  What Went Wrong?-(Star)

The celebrity couple call it quits after nine years together, two kids and a failed engagement.  Hollywood let out a collective gasp when news broke on Nov. 13 that Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudikis had separeted.  Together since 2011, the pair-parents of Otis, 6, and Daisy, 4-were last photographed in public enjoying a beach day in Malibu in September.  Though the former flames are publicly keeping the peace, there still resentment behind closed doors.  “Olivia’s mad she wasted so many years.” Says the insider, “and Jason’s bashing her for being a flaky commitment-phobe.”

Britney’s & Sam:  Romantic Getaway-(Life & Style)

Two tickets to paradise!  Britney Spears and beau Sam Asghari recently jetted off to Maui, Hawaii, for some much-needed R&R amid her conservatorship battle with dad Jamie Spears.  “With all of the drama going on, Britney’s been under a huge amount of stress,” says a source.  “Sam organized the trip as a pre-birthday surprise to cheer her up, and it certainly did the trick.”  The Princess of Pop, who turns 39 on Dec. 2, and the personal trainer, 26, were spotted at the the Montage Kapalua Bay, a five-star resort in Lahaina.  “They were holding hands by the beach,” shares an onlooker.  “Britney looked healthy, relaxed and happy.”

One Last Thing:  Kaley Cuoco-(People)

The actress and animal lover, 34, stars in HBO Max’s new thriller’s series The Flight Attendant.

Tumbleweed Invasion

An Australian town is undergoing a massive clean-up operation after recent winds brought so many tumbleweeds to the area that some people reported being trapped in their homes.   The influx of tumbleweeds — known as a “hairy panic” in Australia — took place during the weekend in Hillside, a northwest suburb of Melbourne.  Claire Pigott said the tumbleweeds that covered her yard were up to 14 feet high in some spots. She said her family spent an entire day cleaning up the grass, only to find their home buried again the following day.  Neighbors said they believe the tumbleweeds came in from an unmaintained property near the suburb. They said the local council has refused to help residents clean up the mess.   Weather reports warned residents of winds reaching 68 mph during the weekend.  See the video HERE.

Sex Worker Sues Over Lost Wages

Alice Little, the woman who infamously hypes herself as the “highest-earning sex worker in the US,” is suing the state of Nevada to reopen its brothels mid-pandemic.  The lawsuit comes after the state’s governor Steve Sisolak excluded prostitutes from the “close contact” businesses he permitted to open as part of the phase 2 reopening efforts in May, Insider reported.  “The governor’s decision to keep brothels closed is just blatant discrimination against Nevada’s legal sex workers,” said Little in a press release.  She worked for the Moonlite BunnyRanch, which closed its doors in March in line with statewide coronavirus lockdown measures. Around a year prior, Irish Central reported that she was earning around $1 million per year.

Wild Boar Invades Mall

Shoppers at a mall in Malaysia captured photos and videos when a wild boar wandered into the shopping center and was seen browsing the aisles of a sporting goods store.  Fire and rescue officials in Putrajaya said the boar was spotted running loose Sunday inside the Alamanda Shopping Center and firefighters responded to capture the animal and turn it over to local wildlife authorities.  The boar was captured inside sporting goods store Al-Ikhsan.  Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Station Chief Shaari Abdullah said it was the first reported instance of a boar entering a shopping mall in Malaysia. He said authorities had previously been called out to remove the wild pigs from homes and other structures, but the porcine mall intruder was a first.
*******Boars have to Christmas shop, too!!

Oh Deer!!!!

The principal of a New Jersey elementary school shared security camera footage of a deer that repeatedly attempted to head-butt its way through a window.  The security camera footage from C.B. Lamb Elementary School in Wrightstown shows the deer charging head-first into a large glass window in the early morning hours.  The deer, apparently mistaking its own reflection for a rival deer, repeatedly slams into windows and glass doors, but fails to break into the building.  The deer left after a couple minutes of unsuccessful attempts and did not appear to have injured itself.  See the video HERE.
*****It seems like the animals are the only ones having any fun right now!!

7 Thoughtful Alternatives To Giving Store-Bought Gifts This Year

Huffington Post

  1. Write a letter.

In a world of text, email and DMs, the art of letter-writing is becoming lost. Yet anyone who’s received a heartfelt written note can tell you how special it made them feel.

As a particularly thoughtful gift, consider writing letters of gratitude to loved ones. Research has shown that expressing gratitude is linked to an increase in happiness for both the giver and receiver. Unfortunately, most of us do not always express our gratitude to the people in our lives, so this holiday season is a good opportunity to do so.

Not sure where to start? Try describing one or two specific examples of ways the person made you grateful and how they affected your life positively.

  1. Create a scrapbook.

Turning shared memories into a tangible gift can be one of the most thoughtful ideas this holiday season. You can reminisce about when your children were little, relive an epic road trip or memorialize generations of family events in a scrapbook.

If you’re particularly creative, create a traditional scrapbook the old-fashioned way with physical prints and other materials. If you’d rather have your digital photos organized, use an online photo book service such as Walgreens, Shutterfly or Mixbook.

  1. Make a video.

Most of us are feeling some degree of Zoom fatigue at this point in the pandemic, so the prospect of spending another holiday awkwardly chatting through the family computer might not be something to look forward to. However, we’re all still in need of human connection, especially around the holidays.

Take some of the pressure off and create a video that the recipient can view on their own time. Services such as VidDay allow you to collect videos and photos from various participants and then have them edited together. Encourage people to record heartfelt messages, list why they’re grateful for that person and tell funny stories for a memorable and touching gift.

  1. Give the gift of your time.

Do you have a nifty skill you can teach? Are you a stellar tutor? Can you do grocery runs for someone who is immunocompromised? Now, more than ever, offering your time to help someone else can be the greatest gift. To add a creative touch, consider printing out a gift certificate or coupon for your service and delivering it with a card or note.

  1. Transfer stock.

For a gift that will keep on giving over the years, consider giving a loved one shares of stock. You can actually gift existing stock that you own to someone else, according to Tiffany Welka, a financial advisor and accredited wealth management advisor at VFG Associates in Livonia, Michigan. The recipient benefits from any gains in the stock’s price. “Giving the gift of stock may also provide benefits for the giver, particularly if the stock has appreciated in value, since the giver can avoid paying taxes on those earnings or gains,” Welka said.

  1. Get crafty.

When it comes to gift-giving, it’s the thought that counts. But that doesn’t mean everyone wants janky macaroni art for Christmas. As long as you’re a somewhat talented crafter, consider making gifts this year.

Pam Merritt, crafts expert for Zulily, shared a few ideas:

  • Holiday decorative baskets: If you have random baskets stored around the house, repurpose one for a holiday gift. You can spraypaint it and then fill it with a rosemary tree, which makes a great gift for a neighbor, friend or teacher, Merritt said. You can also put things like blankets or throws in it, or make it functional and include face masks.
  • DIY ornaments: Merritt said a good craft kit should have everything you need for this project (though you may need to grab a pair of pliers from the toolbox). Plus, ornaments can be used in all sorts of ways, she added — yes, on a tree or wreath, but they can also look great on a wall or doorknob, or you can even make a few ornaments and put them on a bowl on a table.
  • Handmade cards: Sometimes a nice card is the best gift of all. Create unique cards using stickers, felt, homemade gift tags and even wrapping paper. “It’s a great activity to bring the family together and give a gift that shows how much you care,” Merritt said.

  1. Donate to a charity in their name.

Many people are struggling this year due to the pandemic. Instead of exchanging gifts, try donating to a cause in someone else’s name instead. For a personal touch, choose a charity that matches their interests or beliefs. Is there an animal lover in your life? Donate to a shelter. Did your loved one lose someone to cancer? Donate to the American Cancer Society.

It may not be as fun as opening presents under the tree, but opting out of gift-giving to make a donation instead is one of the most selfless things you can do this holiday season. Plus, your money will go a lot further in the hands of someone who truly needs it.
