Oscar Hosts Announced
Comic actresses Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes have signed on to host next month’s Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles. Each woman is expected to host an hour of the ABC telecast celebrating excellence in film. The gala is to take place at the Dolby Theatre on March 27. Netflix’s The Power of the Dog was nominated for a leading 12 Academy Awards last week. The streaming service’s Don’t Look Up earned four nods, The Lost Daughter scored three and Tick Tick Boom garnered two. Dune from Warner Bros. earned 10 nominations this year, while Belfast from Focus Features and West Side Story from Walt Disney each picked up seven nominations and King Richard from Warner Bros. grabbed six.

Alec Baldwin Sued By Hutchins Family
Alec Baldwin is now a defendant in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Halyna Hutchins. In the lawsuit, lawyers for the family list what they say are the lapses in safety on the “Rust” set. The suit also claims other shortcomings and that the crew failed to treat the gun as if it were loaded. As for Baldwin, the suit claims he was only 4 feet from members of the crew and reached across his body and used his right hand to grab the revolver holstered on his left side, drew the revolver with a cross draw movement and aimed it directly at Hutchins while drawing back the hammer. The suit claims “He released the revolver’s hammer, and that Baldwin fired the revolver.”

Camilla Called Meghan Markle “That Minx”
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was allegedly “suspicious” of Meghan Markle’s intentions before she became a member of the British royal family. The claim was made by British author Tom Bower, who has previously written several unauthorized biographies of famous figures, such as Prince Charles, Ghislaine Maxwell’s father Robert Maxwell and Mohamed Al Fayed, among others. On Monday, Bower told The Sun that Charles’ wife remained “tight-lipped” with her opinions about Meghan. “From the outset, Camilla was suspicious about the adventuress from Los Angeles,” he claimed to the outlet. “She found it hard to believe that Meghan would sacrifice her career and independence to serve silently as a team player devoted to the monarchy.” “But, as in all her conduct, Camilla remained tight-lipped,” Bower continued. “While watching Charles painfully believe that Harry was intent on publicly humiliating him, Camilla undoubtedly provided the comfort and good advice to reassure her husband that he had done the best he could.” Bower also alleged that Prince Harry’s stepmother had a private nickname for his wife. “… Camilla is the sort who would refer to Meghan as ‘that minx’ – the self-seeking troublemaker whose antics will always end in tears,” Bower claimed. Bower is reportedly working on a book about Markle.

Kanye’s Former Bodyguard Speaks Out
Kanye West’s former bodyguard says he once chased the rapper through the streets of Manhattan after West got stuck in traffic and desperately needed to get to a Yeezy fashion show rehearsal at Madison Square Garden. Steve Stanulis, who worked for West for two weeks in 2016, is making a documentary on his time working for him that will start filming next month. “It’s based on 15 days with Kanye,” Stanulis exclusively tells Page Six. “It’s based on my perspective each day and the craziness. Remember ‘48 Hours’? Or ‘Lethal Weapon’? As much as they always banged heads, they were brought back together.” The former NYPD cop and Chippendales dancer teases, “One of the stories we’re going to share is when he was at a rehearsal for Fashion Week.” West famously staged a Yeezy show at MSG in 2016 that also served as a listening party for his album “The Life of Pablo.” “We were about four blocks away, stuck in traffic,” Stanulis recalls. Since the security staff was “all retired police officers,” Stanulis remembers West wanting them to “blow through red lights” to get to the venue. When they refused, “he decided to run out of the car and run to MSG!” Stanulis tells us. “I was like, ‘I’ll run after him!’ I’m chasing him, running through traffic.” When they arrived at the arena, West asked Stanulis “where the other guard” was, Stanulis says, adding, “I was like, ‘He was in the car.’”

Prince Andrew Settles Sex Lawsuit
Prince Andrew has agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre, who said she was sexually trafficked to the British royal by the financier Jeffrey Epstein when she was 17. The deal described in a court filing Tuesday in New York avoids a trial that would have brought further embarrassment to the monarchy. It calls for the prince to make a substantial donation to the charity of his accuser while saying he never meant to malign her character. Attorney David Boies, who represents Giuffre, informed the judge presiding over the case in New York that a settlement in principle has been reached and lawyers on both sides will request a dismissal of the lawsuit within a month. The letter signed by Boies said all lawyers were asking the judge to suspend all deadlines and put the case on hold. Giuffre sued Andrew in August. The American accused the British royal of sexually abusing her while she traveled with financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Final Super Bowl Ratings
The final numbers are in and the 2022 Super Bowl was a big winner for more than just the Los Angeles Rams. NBC and the NFL are likely doing cartwheels in the end zone with Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI delivering a whopping 112.3 million viewers across NBC, Telemundo, Peacock, NBC Sports Digital, NFL Digital platforms and Yahoo Sports mobile properties. The halftime show from Dr Dre, Eminem, Mary J Blige, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar was a top 10 hit too. Up 7% from last year’s stint by The Weeknd, the Pepsi-sponsored hip-hip bonanza had an average of 103.4 million viewers in the 8:15 -8:30 PM ET slot.

Town Full Of Old People!
An upcoming birthday in a small Italian town of about 1,765 people is expected to earn the municipality an unusual distinction as the home of 10 people over the age of 100. Vittorio Lai celebrated his 100th birthday Saturday in the town of Perdasdefogu, on the island of Sardinia, and Piuccia Lai, who shares the same last name but is not related, will celebrate her 100th birthday on Feb. 20. Sardinia has been identified as one of the five places in the world with the highest concentration of centenarians, with 33.6 people over the age of 100 for every 100,000 residents. Perdasdefogu made headlines in 2012 when the Melis family was certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest set of nine siblings. Consolata Melis, the family’s eldest sibling, holds the record for the town’s oldest-ever resident after dying at the age of 108 in 2015. Scientists who have studied the town said clean air, active lifestyles and healthy diets all likely contribute to the high concentration.

Largest Madden Game
The makers of video game Madden NFL teamed up with some real-life NFL players to break a Guinness World Record with a game projected on the side of a Las Vegas hotel. Guinness World Records said EA Sports constructed an additional area on the top of the Tropicana Hotel’s Club Tower so the projection screen could be expanded to 47,337 square feet. The Los Angeles Chargers’ Derwin James and the Cleveland Browns’ Nick Chubb then used the screen to compete head-to-head against the Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons and the Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson in the NFL Pro Bowl experience, a new feature of Madden NFL 22’s Superstar KO multiplayer mode. A Guinness adjudicator was on the scene to confirm the game set a new world record for the largest projected video game display. The previous record of 46,733.65 square feet was set in August 2021, when a game of Garena Free Fire was projected on another Las Vegas building. See the pic HERE.

Aardvark Named After Harry Potter Elf
A British zoo announced the facility’s first-ever aardvark birth and unveiled the hairless newborn, which was dubbed Dobby due to its resemblance to the Harry Potter character. The Chester Zoo in England said staff were “overjoyed” to discover a baby had been born to aardvark mother Oni, 8, and father Koos, 6, in the animals’ enclosure. The zoo said staff won’t know for a few more weeks whether the calf is male or female, but it was tentatively dubbed Dobby due to its resemblance to the hairless, long-nosed house elf from the Harry Potter series. “This is the very first aardvark to be born at the zoo, and so it’s a momentous landmark for us and a real cause for celebration. We’re overjoyed,” Chester zoo team manager Dave White said in the birth announcement. See the video HERE.

Florida Woman Caught In Dating Scam
A Florida woman is out $100,000 after she was tricked by an online dating scammer. Rebecca D’Antonio said she didn’t think much of joining a dating site — and didn’t really plan to use it, either — until she met “Matthew.” “A friend of mine had decided that she was going to try online dating,” said D’Antonio. “And she had never done [online dating] before. And since I hadn’t been in a relationship in a while I thought, ‘Well, this feels like a new thing. Let me give it a shot.” She said prior to signing up for OkCupid, she had never heard of romance scams. She said she trusted the app because she has friends who met their significant others on there. She thought she was being careful by being open in her profile about herself and what she was looking for in a relationship. “I’m going to basically put in my profile that this is the box that I come in. This is what I expect in a relationship and this is what I won’t put up with in a relationship,” she said. He was, supposedly, a single father of a young son and his wife had passed away from cancer. He was originally from Australia but had made America his home. D’Antonio said Matthew was having technical difficulties using the app so they began chatting on the phone, sending email and using Facebook Messenger. The exchange of money came after Matthew said he was going on an international business and that he was bringing his son along. But, he claimed, the cards he was using for expenses were not being accepted. And the rest is history!!

What To Say When You Don’t Know How To Answer A Job Interview Question

- Whatever you do, don’t lie.
Daniel Space, a human resources consultant with business partners in strategic staffing, said that if you can’t draw from personal experience to answer a question, it’s alright to draw a similar comparison and say something like, “I haven’t been placed in that situation specifically yet, but here’s how I think I would handle it.”
The biggest mistake he sees is when candidates attempt to lie instead of acknowledging what they don’t know.
Space said he observed this firsthand when a job candidate interviewing to be an HR manager was asked to explain how they would handle a specific employee relations situation.
The candidate shared a story that was supposedly based on her experience, but “the details kept changing,” Space said. “The more that my manager was asking questions, the more it fell apart, to such a degree where it was just very clear that she had made up a story.
“That worked so much more against her than had she said, ‘I don’t think I’ve dealt with an [employee relations] situation of that type. Can I give you a different example of something that I have dealt with?’”
- Don’t ramble and hope for the best. If you don’t understand what they’re asking, request clarification.
Rambling is the worst mistake a job candidate can make when they don’t know how to answer, according to Mary Abbajay, president of the leadership development consultancy Careerstone Group.
“They think if they talk long enough … people will think they are answering the questions. Don’t do that,” she said. “When you are rambling, it shows you are a poor communicator. The sense is you are just trying to overwhelm me with words because you don’t know what you are talking about.”
Lawrese Brown, the founder of C-Track Training, a workplace education company, pointed out that not all interview questions are clearly worded and it reflects better on you to ask for clarification when you need it.
“It demonstrates a confidence and assertiveness to say, ‘Hey, can you clarify? … Because I want to share the right insights with you, I want to share the most relevant information,’” she said. “What’s the point in going down a rabbit hole that’s entirely irrelevant to what’s the person is asking for?”
Asking for the question to be repeated might also buy you time to think of an answer, Abbajay added.
If you do find yourself on a nervous tangent, Space said, you can also use humor to your advantage and acknowledge that you need a do-over.
Space once chatted with a job candidate who was rambling, and “halfway through, he was like, ‘I’m just going to stop because I have no idea where I was going with that and I’m just talking for the sake of talking and I think we both just know I flubbed that.’ That removed all of the tension.”
The candidate answered the questions much better after acknowledging his nerves.
- Don’t give up and just say “I don’t know,” either. Advocate for the person you are.
Beyond basic qualifications, forward-thinking companies know that you’re not going to have every single answer, so it’s OK to admit you have not yet acquired a specific skill or faced a certain problem, said Tejal Wagadia, a recruiter for a major tech company.
“There is this weird perception that every company is looking for a candidate who meets all of the qualifications all of the time,” she said.
But don’t just say “I don’t know” when you are stumped. You want to communicate that you are engaged and are eager to find out and learn. Saying something like, “I don’t know that yet, but I’m willing to learn that skillset,” shows your willingness to learn new things, Wagadia said.
The point is to make the case that you are the best candidate for the job and to link your past experiences and skills to what the job requires.
“Never say ‘I don’t have that experience’ and leave it at that,” agreed Ashley Watkins, a job search coach with corporate recruiting experience. “You have to advocate for yourself and connect the dots between what you’ve done and how it relates to the new role. Be honest and don’t lie about having the exact experience. Redirect your answer and share how the skills you’ve gained in another capacity have prepared for the target opportunity.”
For example, Watkins said if you’re asked a question about developing a human resources policy but you’ve never officially worked in an HR capacity, you can demonstrate your transferable skills. Your response could be something like, “That’s a great question. While I didn’t have an official HR role, I’ve managed several HR responsibilities during my time as an office manager for a start-up company ….”
Don’t forget they’re in the hot seat, too.
And remember: You are interviewing a company, just as they are interviewing you. How they respond when you acknowledge needing help or clarification on a question can tell you a lot about their values.
“If a hiring manager or company is not receptive to you being vulnerable, that’s a good thing,” Wagadia said. “Now you know it’s not a company you want to work for, because who looks for employees that are 100 percent perfect?”
