Oprah Finally Lands Meghan and Harry

Oprah Winfrey courted Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for three years to land her exclusive interview with them.  While she was described as a “friend of the couple” when she was a guest at their May 2018 royal wedding, she had only met Markle once before then — while first trying to land an interview, according to the Times of London.  She continued to play the “long game” and acted as the Duchess of Sussex’s mentor, even befriending her mother, Doria Ragland, when they moved to Oprah’s upscale California neighborhood last year, the UK Times said.  Winfrey’s series about mental health for Apple TV with Harry was seen by many royal insiders as a “canny move” to “keep the couple happy,” the report said.  The fact that Oprah would land the interview was long an “open secret in palace circles”.  But Monday’s formal announcement caught Buckingham Palace by surprise, with royal officials only learning about the finalized interview on Twitter, the report said.

Mission Impossible Movies On Hold

The “Mission Impossible” franchise may have hit another snag in production.  Due to the coronavirus pandemic moving the release dates of several movies, plans to film the seventh and eighth installments back-to-back have reportedly been scrapped.   The seventh installment has been delayed several times by the ongoing pandemic. Production halted early on as cases in Italy, where the film was hoping to shoot in February of 2020, soared. After that delay, robust measures were put in place to allow the cast and crew to safely film on location. However, further delays cropped up as the film shot in Italy, Norway, the U.K. and more.  According to a report from Deadline, the delays affected the franchise’s original plans to film the next two films back-to-back. Paramount was reportedly put in a sticky situation thanks to star Tom Cruise’s other upcoming movie “Top Gun: Maverick.”   With “Mission: Impossible 7” moving down the calendar, Cruise is reportedly needed for promotional duties on the “Top Gun” sequel before its July 2 release date. That falls during a time that would have otherwise been set aside to get the ball rolling on “Mission: Impossible 8.”
*********That’s why they call ’em “Mission: Impossible!!!” If it wasn’t difficult, they’d call ’em “Mission: Easy Peasy!!!”

Michael B. Jordon Shuts Down Aquarium for Valentine’s Day

Michael B. Jordan rented out an aquarium for himself and his girlfriend, Steve Harvey’s stepdaughter Lori.  She chronicled their evening on Instagram, first giving fans a glimpse at their dining location, the end of a long hallway in an aquarium, surrounded by underwater wildlife.  The hallway was aptly decorated with flower petals and candles.  “My baby rented one the aquarium so we could do a private tour and see the turtles and then we walked into this,” she wrote over the image on her Instagram story.  It appears that Jordan also gifted his girlfriend with a plush turtle to commemorate the evening.  The festivities didn’t stop there, however, as the two then relocated to what appeared to be a hotel room, again decorated for an evening of romance.  The room was filled with white flowers and even more candles, while in the bathroom, a bubble bath had been prepared and rose petals were laid on the bed.

Salma Hayek Opens Up About Past Sex Scene

Salma Hayek says she was so afraid to film a sex scene in “Desperado” that she couldn’t stop crying on set.  While stressing that co-star Antonio Banderas and director Robert Rodriguez were “amazing” during the process, the actress, 54, said on Monday’s “Armchair Expert” she didn’t know there was a love scene until production had begun on the 1995 film. Agreeing to a closed set, she filmed the scene with just Banderas, Rodriguez and Rodriguez’s then-wife, producer Elizabeth Avellán present.  “When we were going to start shooting, I started to sob,” Hayek — who was in her late 20s at the time — recalled, adding that she kept saying, “I don’t know that I can do it. I’m afraid.”  She continued, “One of the things I was afraid of was Antonio — he was an absolute gentleman and so nice, and we’re still super close friends — but he was very free. It scared me that for him, it was like nothing. I started crying, and he was like, ‘Oh my God. You’re making me feel terrible.’ And I was so embarrassed that I was crying.”  Hayek said she wouldn’t let go of the towel wrapped around her.  “They would try to make me laugh. I would take it off for two seconds and start crying again,” she said. “But we got through it. We did the best with what we could do at the time.”

Former Bachelorette Defends Host Leaving the Show

Rachel Lindsay thinks it was the “right decision” for The Bachelor host Chris Harrison to temporarily step aside from the show.  Lindsay, who became the first Black Bachelorette in The Bachelorette Season 13, reacted Monday on Extra to Harrison stepping away from the franchise after apologizing for “speaking in a way that perpetuates racism.”  Harrison faced backlash after defending The Bachelor Season 25 contestant Rachael Kirkconnell in an interview with Lindsay on Extra last week following reports that Kirkconnell once attended an antebellum plantation-themed formal and liked racist social media posts.  Harrison apologized for his remarks in a statement Feb. 10. Following further criticism, Harrison said Saturday that he is “stepping aside for a period of time” from the Bachelor franchise.  On Monday, Extra host Billy Bush asked Lindsay for her thoughts on Harrison stepping aside and his future with the Bachelor franchise.  “Where do we go from here as a franchise? It’s kind of hard to say,” Lindsay said. “Chris has stepped aside, which I think is the right decision, because like you said, he needs to get educated on a profound and productive level, to use his words.”  “I think he needs to understand what was done, what was wrong in what he said in that interview,” she added. “He needs time. He needs to step away to do that.”  Lindsay said she’s waiting “to see what happens” in regard to Harrison’s future with the franchise.

Couple Leaves Big Tip

A couple who had their first date at a Chicago restaurant returned on the 20th anniversary of that evening and left the staff a $2,000 tip.  Jim Higgins, owner of Club Lucky in Bucktown, said the couple has been visiting the eatery Feb. 12 each year to mark the anniversary of their first date.  “That booth is his booth: Feb 12 at 7:30 p.m. — booth 46. As long as Club Lucky is here, that table will be there for them,” Higgins told WLS-TV.  Eddie Cruz, a bartender and server at the restaurant, closed out the now-married couple’s tab Friday night and was shocked to see they had left a $2,000 tip.  “Thank you for 20 years of good memories, excellent food & outstanding service. Cheers to many more,” the couple wrote in a note on the receipt.

Illegal Tiger Caught In Texas

Authorities in Texas said deputies acting on a tip in San Antonio seized an illegally kept tiger found in a cage on a property.  The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a tiger sighting in San Antonio and located the big cat in a cage on a property on the Southwest Side of the city.  The sheriff’s office said tigers are legal to be owned in Texas with the proper permits, but they are banned from Bexar County and the city of San Antonio.  The tiger was seized and will be taken to the Southern Wildlife Rescue organization, the sheriff’s office said.  The people at the property where the tiger was found were cited for a Class C misdemeanor, deputies said.  It was unclear whether the tiger was the same animal spotted in a San Antonio back yard Feb. 6. Residents said the tiger had climbed into a woman’s back yard from a neighboring home.

Fire Turns Out To Be Buffalo Wings

Firefighters reporting to a call about a fire at a restaurant on Saturday night discovered that the smoke reported by a passerby wasn’t the result of a fire, but rather 10,000 chicken wings the eatery’s staff was preparing for Super Bowl orders the next day.  Workers at Ronni’s Pizza in Clemmons, N.C., told FOX 8 in Greensboro that a motorist called the fire department after seeing a plume of smoke coming from the restaurant on Feb. 6.  In a Facebook post, the Lewisville Fire Department later clarified that, no, the restaurant wasn’t actually on fire.   “While it looked bad when we got there, turns out their hardworking staff were just preparing roughly 10,000 chicken wings for Super Bowl Sunday.”  “We are very fortunate that this was the outcome,” the fire department added. “Everyone be safe and enjoy the big game!”

6 Ways To Channel Your Anger When You’re IN IT

Huffington Post

  1. Acknowledge that you’re angry.

When you’re angry, you notice it in your body. You experience it physically far more than you do cognitively, said Kurt Smith, a therapist in Roseville, California. You are literally hot and bothered.

“Anger will often also cause changes in our body, such as muscle tension like a stiff, sore neck, rapid heartbeat or breathing that becomes rapid and shallow,” Smith said. “Feeling fatigued or heated up for no obvious reason can be a sign of unrecognized anger.”

If you’re not physically feeling it, you might hear it in the sound of your voice.

“One way to realize that you’re getting angry is to listen to the volume of your voice. Is it increasing?” Smith said. “That’s a sign your emotions are building and can indicate you’re getting angry.”

Once you notice this, try to modulate your voice.

“Just as increasing anger can correspond to an increasingly loud voice, so can the opposite,” Smith said. “Try responding to your loud voice by gradually lowering it. This is an effective strategy to emotionally talk yourself back down.”

“Anger will often also cause changes in our body, such as muscle tension like a stiff, sore neck, rapid heartbeat or breathing that becomes rapid and shallow,” therapist Kurt Smith said.

  1. Follow your body’s cues, safely and slowly.

The standard advice here is to take deep breaths, in and out. When you’re really in anger though, and the breathing, counting or similar techniques aren’t working, it pays to take cues from your physiological sensations. Ask yourself what your anger wants to do, said Brittany Bouffard, a Denver psychotherapist who’s trained in a form of alternative therapy called Somatic Experiencing.

What your anger wants you to do? What does that mean?

“Notice if, for example, your hands, forearms, and biceps want to clench, or if your abdomen grips and you want to yell,” Bouffard said. “For any of these, you can try — safely and slowly — letting the muscles do as they like but as if in slow motion or underwater.”

The slowness is crucial here because you’re “allowing the motion to integrate into the system, allowing it to feel [that] it completed what it needed,” Bouffard said. (In other words, your body wants to react. Let it, but in a gentle, modified way.)

Let your hands slowly but firmly grip something that is safe (to the object and yourself), or let your abdomen clench, Bouffard said.

“If your body wants to punch, find a pillow ― of course beware to not punch anything” or anyone, she said.

Obviously, this is ideal to do if you’re by yourself. But when we pull back from the conversation and let the body’s survival mechanisms do as they need, “the body discharges that survival energy rather than it feeling stuck,” Bouffard said.

“It stops you from continuing the day tense and with angry thoughts,” she added.

  1. Give yourself a time out.

How do you do the exercise above when you’re in the middle of a face-to-face conversation? Call a personal timeout, said Saniyyah Mayo, a psychotherapist in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

“Walking away gives you time to calm down and collect your thoughts before responding,” Mayo told HuffPost. “This also aids in decreasing anger and or de-escalating the situation. A timeout allows time for you to reflect on the actual trigger that manifested the anger, which helps with identifying the trigger to prevent it from reoccurring.”

Of course, don’t just peace out of the argument. Let whoever you’re talking to know that you just need a little physical space, Mayo said. Otherwise, your actions might be misconstrued as passive-aggressive.

In the moment — say, on the phone with your internet provider — ask yourself what primary emotion is driving your anger.

  1. Ask yourself what emotion is behind the anger.

Now that you’ve calmed down, think about what’s motivating your anger. More often than not, anger is a “secondary emotion” we use as a mask or a defense for an entirely different feeling (shame, for instance, or embarrassment).

“If you can bring conscious awareness to the real emotion, then you can actually take an outsider view and discover why it’s happening,” said Patrick Davey Tully, a therapist in Los Angeles.

Once you’ve pinpointed what’s really motivating your anger, you’ll gain insight into your needs that haven’t been met: Maybe you snapped at a co-worker for asking a simple question, not because you think they’re incompetent, but because you’re generally feeling overwhelmed with your own work.

Once you’re aware of the real emotions at play, you can communicate it to the person you snapped at, Tully said. In the scenario above, you’d apologize to your co-worker — explaining that you snapped because you’re overwhelmed (and acknowledging that doesn’t justify your behavior!) — and perhaps consider asking your manager to lighten your workload.

  1. Change the tone of the conversation.

After your body is calm ― and you’ve given some thought to what was behind your burst of anger ― use “I” statements when you share your thoughts or feelings with the other person, advised Megan Negendank, a psychotherapist and sex therapist in Sacramento, California.

“Say you’re arguing with your S.O. about how you deal with your parents,” Negendank said. “You might say something like, ’I feel frustrated when you criticize how I am handling things with my parents because it seems like you don’t trust me to make the right decisions for myselfI would like you to be supportive of me and only give me your input when I ask for it. I know you care about what is best for me, but when it comes out as criticism it just hurts me.’”

The alternative, more hostile approach ― “You are so judgmental about how I deal with my parents. You have no idea what you are talking about” ― isn’t likely to get you anywhere.

“When we use ‘I’ statements instead, our partners are less likely to get defensive and more likely to understand what is going on with us,” Negendank explained.

  1. Change the subject of the conversation.

Let’s say you’ve taken the advice above, but you’re still feeling heated. That’s OK. Nothing needs to be resolved right now. If you or your partner/co-worker/friend still feel hotheaded, changing the topic of conversation can also be a good way to cope with anger in the moment, Mayo said.

“Sometimes, ruminating over the person or thing that made you angry only causes you to stay angry.” she said. “Focusing on something else helps change your mood and how you will respond. If things are heated, changing the subject will alter the trajectory of the conversation as a whole.”

The easiest way to do this? “Make a joke and reroute the conversation to a safe, calm, enjoyable dialogue,” Mayo said.

If you were discussing something serious ― or something that needs to be resolved eventually ― table the discussion for later or the next day, when cooler heads prevail.
