Depp’s Team Denies Pirates Rumor
Johnny Depp’s representative dismissed Tuesday a rumor that Disney was working on a $301 million offer for Depp to return as Jack Sparrow in its Pirates of Caribbean franchise. Depp had played Sparrow in all five movies, including the latest one, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and an industry insider alleged Disney was working on the $301 million deal for him to return to the role in a sixth film, Poptopic.com reported earlier this month. But a representative for Depp told NBC News on Tuesday “this is made up.” Last month, amid the defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, and her defamation countersuit, Pirates of Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer was asked if Depp would return for future projects. “Not at this point,” Bruckheimer told The Sunday Times. “The future is yet to be decided.” A Virginia jury awarded Depp $15 million in damages from winning his side of the defamation trial on June 1 over Heard’s statements in a 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post claiming to be a survivor of domestic abuse. The verdict included $10 million compensatory damages and $5 million punitive, though the latter was reduced to a statutory cap of $350,000.

Disney+ is giving a glimpse of the new film Hocus Pocus 2. They shared a teaser trailer for the sequel Tuesday featuring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. The preview shows a new group of teens accidentally summon the Sanderson sisters, witches Winnie (Midler), Sarah (Parker) and Mary (Najimy), who return to Salem. “It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve,” an official synopsis reads. Doug Jones, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belisa Escobedo, Hannah Waddingham, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Paige Henderson and Nina Kitchen also star. Britney Spears’ Ex Ordered To Stand Trial
A California judge found Monday that there is enough evidence against a man once briefly married to Britney Spears who showed up uninvited at her wedding to go to trial on a felony stalking charge. After a two-hour preliminary hearing, Ventura County Judge David Worley ruled that Jason Allen Alexander should be held to answer on the charge, along with misdemeanor counts of trespassing, vandalism and battery, court records showed. Not guilty pleas to all the charges were entered by an attorney for Alexander, who did not attend and remains jailed. Spears married longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari at her home in Thousand Oaks, California, on June 9, in front of several dozen guests including Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton and Madonna. Richard Eubler, a since-fired security guard for Spears, testified at Monday’s hearing that Alexander got inside her house and up to the locked door of Spears’ bedroom while she was inside. Eubler said Alexander had also tried to enter the property in the days before the wedding.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were spotted driving to visit Oprah Winfrey at her Montecito, Calif., home Saturday afternoon. They spent about an hour at Winfrey’s $100 million mansion, a source told the Daily Mail, which obtained photos of the couple en route in a black Range Rover. Their security detail was seen piled into another black Range Rover that followed closely behind. It’s not known whether their visit to Winfrey’s estate was for business or pleasure. But the meeting could mean that another collaboration could be in store for Winfrey and the royals. Harry currently has a $20 million tell-all memoir in the works about his life as a royal.

Woody Allen To Stop Making Movies
Woody Allen says he’s no longer much interested in making movies in the streaming era. “A lot of the thrill is gone. Now you do a movie and you get a couple of weeks in a movie house, maybe six weeks or four weeks and then it goes to streaming or pay per view. It’s not the same. It’s not as enjoyable to me,” the filmmaker told Alec Baldwin during an appearance on Instagram Live on Tuesday to tout his latest collection of humor stories, Zero Gravity. His last movie, Rifkin’s Festival, which follows a writer and film teacher accompanying his publicist wife to a festival in Spain, stars Wallace Shawn, Gina Gershon, Louis Garrel and Elena Anaya and just had a commercial release. “I don’t get the same fun as putting on a movie and putting it in a movie house. It was a nice feeling to know 500 people were seeing it at the same time. I don’t know how I feel about making movies. I’m going to make another one and I’ll see how it feels,” Allen said as he put a question mark over continuing to make movies after his next project. Allen told Baldwin he will make another movie in Paris in the fall without giving details. His movies over his long career has also become something of a pariah in Hollywood in recent years as allegations that he sexually abused his seven-year-old daughter Dylan Farrow have resurfaced. Amazon Studios notably canceled a $68 million four-film deal, and Allen’s recent movies are struggling to gain distribution. Allen said he didn’t watch streaming TV, sticking instead to live sports like the New York Knicks basketball games and the news. “I don’t have the time” to view online video platforms, he told Baldwin. Baldwin’s controversial interview of Allen comes amid the actor’s own legal issues stemming from the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the western Rust in October 2021. In that incident, Hutchins was fatally shot and director Joel Souza was injured when a live round was discharged from a prop firearm held by Baldwin.

Truck Ignites Full Of Fireworks
Drivers on a New Jersey highway got an unexpected light show — and hours of delays — when a truck carrying a load of fireworks caught fire. The New Jersey Department of Transportation said the truck’s trailer caught fire about 10:45 p.m. Sunday on southbound Interstate 287 in Bridgewater. Video recorded at the scene shows fireworks shooting out of the trailer, illuminating the area. Drivers were stuck behind the scene of the fire for hours and the roadway remained partially closed for clean-up during the morning commute Monday.

Ugliest Dog Contest
A Chinese crested-chihuahua mix named Mr. Happy Face was crowned the World’s Ugliest Dog at an annual pageant in California. Organizers of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma announced the 17-year-old Mr. Happy Face, adopted in August 2021 by Arizona woman Janeda Banelly, was named the 2022 World’s Ugliest Dog. The contest, an annual event at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds Event Center, returned this year after the 2020 and 2021 contests were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The contest is aimed at promoting adoption of dogs that some might consider to be less than aesthetically pleasing. Banelly received an award of $1,000 and a trip to New York to appear on NBC’s Today show. “I believe that this humble soul is also being an example, in subtle ways, to help humans realize that even old dogs need love and a family too,” Banelly wrote in Mr. Happy Face’s contest bio. Banelly said she immediately fell in love with Mr. Happy Face, despite being told he might not have long to live due to his advanced age and multiple health issues. See the dog HERE.

“Bad Day” Turns Into Lottery Win
A Michigan man said he was “having a bad day” so he left work early and ended up turning his day around with a $1 million lottery jackpot. The 40-year-old Clinton County man told Michigan Lottery officials he might not have bought his 20X Cashword scratch-off ticket from the J&H Family Stores in Owosso if his day hadn’t gotten off to an unpleasant start. “I was having a bad day, so I left work early and stopped to purchase a lottery ticket on my way home,” the player said. “When I scratched the ticket and saw I’d won $1 million, all I could think was: ‘There is no way this is real.'” The man said he was in such disbelief that he returned to the store to use the ticket scanner. “I took the ticket back in to the store to scan it and got a message to file a claim. I still was having a hard time believing it was real, so I scanned it on the lottery app to confirm. It was an unbelievable feeling when the amount of $1 million came up on the screen,” he said.

Florida Woman Steals HOAs and Buys Football Tickets
A Pinellas County woman is accused of ripping off three HOAs to the tune of nearly $230,000 and using some of that money to buy Buccaneers game tickets. The woman, Jamie Fonville, 46, of Tarpon Springs, was an account manager who issued checks on behalf of 58 different HOAs for First Choice Association Management, an HOA management company in Palm Harbor. In February, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office became aware of fraudulent activity involving a bank account overseen by the company. During their investigation, they learned Fonville had manufactured fraudulent checks with three HOA’s account information on them, and deposited the checks into her own personal bank account, the sheriff’s office said. The report did not mention the names of the HOAs. Authorities said Fonville used the money to pay her credit card bills and also spent it on Buccaneers game tickets and daily living expenses, such as groceries. “The total financial loss amongst all reported victims is estimated to be $228,300.83,” authorities said in a news release.
