Sopranos Prequel Trailer Drops

A young Tony Soprano enters the family business in the new trailer for the upcoming Sopranos prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark, which is set to open October 1st.  The new clip offers the first proper look at Michael Gandolfini — son of late Sopranos star James Gandolfini — as the adolescent Anthony (there were a few smaller glimpses in a trailer for Warner Bros. 2021 movie slate, released earlier this year) . It’s a role he fits well, as evidenced in the opening moments of the clip when he snaps and beats up a guy bugging him at a telephone booth.  The clip goes on to present Tony as a highly intelligent kid with natural leadership skills, but absolutely zero interest in school. Instead, he’s taken under the wing of his uncle, Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), who introduces him to the world of organized crime.  Sopranos creator David Chase wrote the script with one of the show’s longtime writers, Lawrence Konner; the film was directed by Alan Taylor, who also directed several episodes of the series.  See the trailer HERE.
********It’s scary how much he looks like his father!!
*****This may be the only time a kid (knowingly) played his own father!!!

Britney Spears Working On Mental Health in Hawaii

Britney Spears is prioritizing her “mental and physical health” during her Hawaiian vacation with boyfriend Sam Asghari.  She reposted an Instagram Story video Asghari shared on Monday that showed her walking on a treadmill and flexing her arm muscles, while her personal trainer beau did the same.  “Mental and physical health comes before anything at this point !!!” Spears — who recently pleaded in court to end her “abusive” conservatorship — wrote over the clip, adding a sun and flexed bicep emoji.  On her profile, the “… Baby One More Time” singer also gave fans insight into how she was spending her time on her trip, writing, “I like the sound of the ocean at night and I like hearing people laughing from my balcony … there’s a togetherness here and it’s endless !!!”   Meanwhile, Asghari has been publicly and privately supporting his longtime girlfriend.  He posted a picture of himself flashing a huge smile after Spears’ voice was finally heard, and leading up to the hearing wore a “#FreeBritney” shirt.  “Sam has been a huge support for Britney. He helps boost her confidence and assures her that everything will go well,” a source says.

Flintstones House Reaches Settlement

Florence Fang, the owner of the colorful, dome-shaped “Flintstone House” in Hillsborough, California, can keep her garden collection of dinosaurs and eye-catching “Flintstones” sculptures after settling a lawsuit with local officials, according to city records and The Palo Alto Daily Post.  The town, a suburb of San Francisco, called the multimillion dollar homage to the 1960s cartoon a “public nuisance” and filed a lawsuit against Fang in 2019 for making landscaping changes that it said violated codes and for not complying with orders to stop working.  Fang, a businesswoman of Chinese origin and former owner of two local newspapers, then countersued Hillsborough, accusing it of discriminating based on her nationality.  Now, as part of the settlement, Fang can apply for building permits for changes to the property, while the town will review and approve a survey of the landscaping updates, according to city records. Hillsborough will also pay Fang $125,000 and she will drop the countersuit.
********Sounds like her nickname is “Bang Bang!!!!”

Courtney Love Upset About Album Cover

Singer Olivia Rodrigo has been called out by Courtney Love for allegedly copying Hole’s Live Through This cover art to promote her Sour Prom concert film.  In an Instagram post, Love shares the image of Rodrigo, with the caption, “Spot the difference! #twinning!” Rodrigo replies, “love u and live through this sooooo much.” Love responded, telling the singer that her favorite florist is in Notting Hill, and that she’s expects a note.  The similarities between the images are undeniable: the purple background, the prom queen crown, bouquet of roses, and tear-smeared makeup. However, folks were quick to note other works that deal with emotional prom queens, such as Carrie, which Rodrigo names as an inspiration. While they bear a striking resemblance, a 56-year-old woman picking online fights with an 18-year-old over a widely used theme does not bode well for Love.  She also shared the image on Facebook and Twitter, further discussing in comment threads why the alleged copying really grinds her gears.  “Stealing an original idea and not asking permission is rude. There’s no way to be elegant about it. I’m not angry. It happens all the time to me,” Love wrote.  “It’s on Geffen (Rodrigo’s record label),” Love continued. “I’ve informed her I await her flowers and note. I sure hope it’s long. Does Disney teach kids reading and writing? God knows. Let’s see. Yes, this is rude. Rage inducing? Honey if I had a dollar for everyone this happens? I’d be real rich!”

Scarlett Johansson Launches Beauty Brand

Scarlett Johansson will team up with the Najafi Companies, a firm that’s investing between $5 and $10 million in the as-yet-unnamed label, according to a report.  Little is known about the initiative, including whether the products will be makeup or skin treatments or both. Either way, it will be the star’s first turn as an entrepreneur.  She has previously been a brand ambassador for L’Oreal Paris, as well as a celebrity model for Dolce & Gabbana’s fragrance line, The One. In this case, however, she’ll be founder and chairman of the new company.  “Several years ago, I took a step back from my beauty deals with the goal of creating something true to me. The result is a clean, accessible approach to beauty,” Johansson said in a statement, according to the report in Women’s Wear Daily.  Johansson’s brand is slated to come out early next year, according to the report.

Nude Beachgoers Spooked By Deer

Police in the Australian state of New South Wales say they have levied fines against two nude beachgoers who had to be rescued after being spooked by a deer and running into a forest.  The two men were breaking coronavirus lockdowns by sunbathing naked on a remote beach south of Sydney, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller told reporters Monday, but worsened their offense when, after being startled by a deer, they fled into the Royal National Park and got lost.  The men, aged 30 and 49, were fined $760 for breaking the COVID-19 rules after authorities came to their rescue Sunday evening.  Residents of Sydney and many other parts of the state were placed under stay-at-home orders earlier in the day as Australia scrambled to counter the fast-spreading Delta variant of the coronavirus.  Even though the men were fined, Fuller said their actions cost the community more because of the resources needed to track them down.

Firefighter Stuck In Tree Rescuing Cat

A man tried to rescue cat that climbed tree, and then fire crews in Tulsa, Okla., had to rescue both.  “Its owner was so concerned for the feline that he climbed up to attempt a rescue,” the Tulsa Fire Department noted in a post on Facebook. “Unfortunately, they both found themselves in a dangerous predicament high above the ground, unable to get down safely.”  Capt. Alan Hancock and his Engine 27 A Platoon responded to the scene, according to the post.  After assessing the situation, they requested Capt. Jack Inbody and the Ladder 27 crew to use their aerial device.  “Acting FEO Brett Allen positioned the aerial so Firefighter James Brooks could ascend and perform a safe rescue,” the post read.  See the video HERE

Family Becomes Billionaires For A Moment

A Baton Rouge family was surprised to find $50 billion mistakenly deposited to their account.  Darren James found out about the $50 billion deposit through his wife who frantically called him, and told him to sit down before showing it to him, local news station BR Proud reported.  “It was crazy just to see what it looks like because I’ve never seen that many zeros in my life,” James told BR Proud. “I wasn’t going to keep it. The thing that was most baffling was, we don’t even know where it came from. We don’t know anybody with that kind of money.”  James called the bank immediately to report the mistaken deposit and find out what happened, according to Newsweek.  The family took screenshots to remember the once-in-a-lifetime error, and the bank reversed the mistake within four days, according to BR Proud.  Recipients of mistaken bank deposits are not allowed to keep the money, BR Proud and Newsweek reported. Banks usually spot the error and reverse the transaction, and those who spend the money may face criminal charges for theft of property lost by mistake.
********WE’VE seen tons of zeroes in our account. They just didn’t have any numbers in front of them!! Just zeroes!!
******This is when you call the bank and say, “Hey!! There’s supposed to be $100 billion in that account!!”

5 Signs You’re A Work Martyr Who Is Sacrificing Yourself For The Job

Huffington Post

  1. “I feel special being the go-to for work problems.”

Lisa Orbé-Austin, a licensed psychologist who focuses on helping professionals manage their careers, noted that work martyrs may also have signs of impostor syndrome. “The idea of being someone’s go-to is getting to be special in some way,” she said. “Searching for that external validation of being special is also indicative of a fact that you’re not internalizing on your own your accomplishments, your skills, your value.“

Reality check: You can’t take care of yourself if you are the go-to for everyone else. Orbé-Austin said it can feel good in the moment to be a colleague’s go-to for a work request, but it can create an inescapable loop because when the moment passes, you may even start to feel like, “Oh no, I’m not getting noticed, I have to do something.”

By overloading yourself with other people’s work requests to feel valuable, “you are creating a situation where you can’t care for yourself anymore,” Orbé-Austin said. You may come to work sick or turn down much-needed vacations, for example.

When you don’t need someone’s validation to feel valuable, you can be more strategic with taking on more work and even turn it down by realizing, “I’m not sure that’s going to do much for me other than them give me the accolade and I don’t need that, so no,” Orbé-Austin said.

  1. “No one else can do this job but me.”

Work martyrs “see requests not as options, but as demands. They think that everything that comes across their plate is something they have to or must do,” Wilding said.

When you believe every request is your work problem to solve, you cannot relinquish control. When you are a manager of a team, this micromanaging mindset is destructive, and you can overgeneralize mistakes like “‘My direct report didn’t do this report right one time, it’s just easier for me to do it myself,’” Wilding said. “Just because someone doesn’t do it right that one time, it doesn’t mean they’re not capable of doing it. Instead, it might mean you need to give better instructions, or you need to reset expectations, or you need to give them more time.”

Reality check: Your work martyr behavior impacts others, not just you. When you are unable to delegate, you are doing your colleagues a disservice. “By over-functioning, you are robbing the people around you of much-needed growth opportunities, challenges that would be rewarding or fulfilling, or help them advance in their own careers,” Wilding said.

Not only will it physically exhaust you to be the go-to for everyone’s jobs, “it also sets up this dynamic where other people learn to become helpless because they are not empowered to figure things on their own, to solve problems, to get tasks done, because you’re always the one fixing it,” Wilding said.

  1. “I need to be the first one in, last one out to be the best.”

For work martyrs, logging long hours is how they do a good job. “They equate their self-worth with how much they are able to do and their productivity. The two are one and the same,” Wilding said.

Reality check: Being available at all hours hurts you and your colleagues. Physical signs that you are overextending yourself include sleeplessness, migraines and burnout, Wilding said. “You may not be able to sleep at night, because your mind is constantly rushing with thoughts about work,” Wilding said. “Your relationships may be on the rocks because you’re prioritizing your workload over your family.”

If you are a work martyr with people who report to you, being too available for work can also set the expectation that your colleagues need to be available at all hours, too. “[Martyrs] send late-night emails and that creates anxiety on the rest of the team,” Wilding said.

  1. “If I keep my head down and work hard, my work will be recognized.”

Workers sometimes receive positive feedback for falling on the sword, which can send the wrong signal that work martyrdom is good for their career. Orbé-Austin said although there may be “verbal supportive praise for the person who is killing themselves at work,” this doesn’t mean it’s a path to success.

“When you’re a work martyr, you can be blinded by where the opportunity is, you just think the that opportunity is in working hard,” Orbé-Austin said.

Reality check: keep your head up, not your head down. A large quantity of work is not necessarily quality work. “Because [martyrs] find their self-worth in working and being that go-to person, they tend to fill up their time with things that may be urgent but not necessarily important or high-impact,” Wilding said.

If you think doing so much work is all it takes to get ahead at your job, you’re not fully understanding how promotions happen. “A lot of what it takes to advance your career comes down to visibility, or internal and external networking, or strategic alliances,” Wilding said.

Instead of hoping your job will pay you back for your sacrifices, be strategic about where people find you as an asset, so you can advance. Find an ally outside of work who can put your career in perspective, Orbé-Austin recommended. They can be the mentor to advise you that “here’s the big players, here’s why people get promoted, here’s what you need to be thinking, here’s the relationships you need to build,” she said.

  1. “I can’t take a vacation.”

A 2017 survey on vacation habits commissioned by the U.S. Travel Association, a travel industry organization, defined work martyrs as employees “who do not take time off because they feel no one else can do the job.”

Fear holds these employees back from taking breaks. A 2018 survey of 4,000 Americans’ vacation habits revealed that the top reasons workers said they weren’t using vacation days were a fear of looking replaceable and less dedicated, and a belief that they had too much work to take time off.

Reality check: Recovery is key to career success. To challenge the blanket assumption that you can’t take vacations, Wilding said one tip she gives clients who see time off as a weakness is to reframe rest as recovery. “Recovery is a much more active participatory word and better reflects what you’re doing,” she said. “You’re investing in your future self, you’re investing in your energy, you need that recovery time to recharge your batteries.”
