King Charles Fears Meghan Markle Drama

King Charles is “paralyzed by fear” when it comes to making decisions about Meghan Markle and his son Prince Harry, a royal expert has claimed.  Royal biographer and commentator Tom Bower believes that the monarch, who is set to be formally crowned on May 6, has struggled with how to handle the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the historic event.  “Paralyzed by fear and indecision, Charles has failed to suppress the Sussexes’ vile vitriol,” Bower wrote in the Sun.  In calculating whether to allow the Sussexes to attend his coronation, Charles has reverted to his familiar stance — “dithering, worrying about his image.”  He risks his spotlight being stolen by the Sussexes if they attend the historic event.  “Ever since Megxit, Meghan and Harry have humiliated the King and the Royal Family,” he wrote.  It’s believed Archie and Lilibet have not been invited to attend the coronation, which reportedly didn’t go down too well with them.  Harry and Meghan are reportedly pushing to be included on the Buckingham Palace balcony on the big day — a royal protocol reserved strictly for working members of the royal family.

Tom Brady Is Looking For New Love

Tom Brady is reportedly back in the dating pool.  Months after he and his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen officially confirmed the news of their divorce, Page Six reported that he is playing the field once again.  “He’s shopping. He is out and about,” a source told Page Six.  It was not clear who Brady was “out and about” with.   Bündchen had also been linked to Brady’s billionaire friend Jeffrey Soffer. However, she shot that down in her bombshell interview with Vanity Fair.  In an apparent response to the interview, Brady used a block of text to convey how he was feeling at the moment last week.  “What is success? To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!”  One of Brady’s big admirers, Slovakian Instagram model Veronika Rajek, went viral in December when she admitted she loved Brady.  “I saw the LEGEND and if somebody asks me again if I love Brady, yes I love him, and show me somebody who doesn’t,” she wrote on Instagram in the caption of a photo of herself wearing a Brady jersey. “Even his haters love him because they know he is the goat. @tombrady thank you for an amazing show.”

Celebrities Leaving Blue Checkmark Behind

Celebrities like William Shatner and Monica Lewinsky and others could soon be losing the blue check marks that helped verify their identity on Twitter.  They could get the marks back by paying up to $11 a month. But some longtime users, including Shatner, have balked at buying the premium service championed by Twitter’s billionaire owner and chief executive Elon Musk.  After months of delay, Musk is gleefully promising that Saturday is the deadline for celebrities, journalists and others who’d been verified for free to pony up or lose their legacy status.  “It will be glorious,” he tweeted Monday, in response to a Twitter user who noted that Saturday is also April Fools’ Day.  Lewinsky tweeted a screenshot Sunday of all the people impersonating her, including at least one who appears to have paid for a blue check mark. She asked, “what universe is this fair to people who can suffer consequences for being impersonated? a lie travels half way around the world before truth even gets out the door.”  For now, those who still have the blue check but apparently haven’t paid the premium fee — a group that includes Beyoncé, Stephen King, Barack and Michelle Obama, Taylor Swift, Tucker Carlson, Drake and Musk himself — have messages appended to their profile saying it is a “legacy verified account. It may or may not be notable.”

STUPID NEWS

Herd Of Relocated Elk Return To Golf Course

A herd of elk relocated from a Utah golf course near a pair of busy highways returned to the same spot a week later, officials confirmed.  State officials closed portions of Interstate 80 and Interstate 215 on March 19 to relocate the herd of elk that had taken up residence at the Salt Lake Country Club in Salt Lake City. Officials said the elk had caused numerous collisions and other traffic problems by repeatedly wandering onto the highways.  The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources confirmed about 20 of the elk had returned to the golf course during the weekend.  The herd had been relocated by a DWR crew who created a human chain to slowly approach the animals and encourage them to cross the highways and return to Parleys Canyon. The crew guided the elk up the mountains and a helicopter was then used to ensure the elk traveled a good distance up the mountain and away from busy roadways.

Woman Forgot To Check Lottery Tickets

A Michigan woman said the one time she forgot to check her Fantasy 5 lottery ticket the morning after the drawing turned out to be the time she won a $327,985 jackpot.  The 64-year-old Montmorency County woman told Michigan Lottery officials she bought her ticket for the March 13 Fantasy 5 drawing from the Family Fare store on County Road 612 in Lewiston.  “I play Fantasy 5 every day,” the player said. “I usually check the winning numbers every morning, but for this drawing I completely forgot to check my ticket. When I was at the store a few days later, I saw the Fantasy 5 jackpot had reset, and I was bummed since it was starting to get big. That’s when I remembered I hadn’t checked my ticket, so I went to scan it on the lottery machine.”  The woman’s ticket matched all five numbers from the drawing: 19-21-31-32-35. She earned a $327,985 jackpot.

DUI Suspect Goes Missing During Lunch Break

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced that a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Zachery Waldo, the man who left his DUI manslaughter trial for lunch and never returned.  Waldo was on trial in connection with a DUI crash on Christmas Eve in 2019 that killed Christopher Smith, Jessica Smith and their 13-year-old daughter, according to court documents.  Waldo, who was out on bond, left his trial on March 14 and has not been seen since.  According to police, Waldo has fled from law enforcement in the past, and has a history of committing battery against law enforcement.  Anyone who comes in contact with Waldo is advised to proceed with caution. The reward – $5,000 from Central Florida Crimeline and $5,000 from the from the Florida Sheriff’s Association Criminal Apprehension Assistance Program – was announced on Monday.

Sniff Test

Sniffing other people’s body odor may be able to help treat social anxiety, according to new research. Armpit sweat was taken from volunteers who watched either happy or scary film clips – including Mr Bean’s Holiday, Sister Act and The Grudge.  The samples were then used alongside more traditional mindfulness therapy to treat social anxiety.  The study revealed mindfulness was more effective when combined with sniffing the body odor.  The study involved 48 women who suffered from social anxiety, some of whom were exposed to clean air and others to body odor.  Patients who completed a mindfulness session while exposed to body odors saw a 39% reduction in social anxiety, while without body odor there was a 17% reduction in anxiety scores.  The researchers believe there is something about human sweat that affects the response to treatment – however said more work is needed to confirm the link.
*********Yeah, when you’re smelling sweat, you’re saying, “I feel better!! Let me out!!!”

The Rudest Things You Can Say To Someone Who Just Got Back From Maternity Leave

HUFFINGTON POST

  1. “Must have been a nice vacation.”

Carnahan said many of her clients and friends have been welcomed back to work with a version of this insensitive comment.  Going on parental leave is certainly not a relaxing break, and common remarks like “How was your vacation?” are problematic, said Amy Beacom, the founder and CEO of the Center for Parental Leave Leadership. “All new parents are learning what their child needs for food, sleep, diapers, etc. ― all with so little sleep it can be classified as torture. It is in no way a restorative vacation!” Beacom said.  Childbirth is an intense physical experience, and for birthing and non-birthing parents alike, what happens after the birth of a baby isn’t a vacation either, Carnahan points out.  “There are sleepless nights, hormonal changes, significant changes to family dynamics, and numerous doctor’s visits,” Carnahan said. “Comparing maternity leave to vacation devalues the health of the parent and important work of raising children. If you wouldn’t ask about a co-worker’s ‘vacation’ after back surgery, don’t refer to maternity leave as a vacation, either.”  Similar comments about how “the boss is so generous to give you time off” misunderstand what parental leave actually is, said Daphne Delvaux, a California-based workplace rights attorney who focuses on women’s rights.  Paid parental leave is not federally guaranteed in the United States, but the Family and Medical Leave Act entitles eligible employees to take unpaid, job-protected leave following the birth of a child.  “Insensitive comments always imply that the leave of absence was some sort of special privilege, when truly it is a right,” Delvaux said.

  1. “Don’t you miss your baby?”

This statement may seem like an innocuous, well-intentioned attempt to show interest in a co-worker’s life outside of work, but it can bring up feelings of guilt or shame for your colleague, Carnahan said.  “That’s because of course they miss their baby, but at the same time they may be happy to return to work ― I know I was in many ways! ― and a statement like this sends a signal that the mother should be prioritizing being with her baby over all other things,” she said. “For some parents, having a stay-at-home parent is not a financial option. For others, work outside the home is an important part of what makes them feel whole.”  “Parents miss their children,” Carnahan said, “but there are also many reasons that they may not be with them all of the time, and there shouldn’t be a judgment tied to this.”

  1. “I’m surprised you came back to work.”

This is another statement that packs a judgmental punch for some parents, Carnahan said.  “This statement can can be construed as ‘I don’t think you can handle working outside the home and being a parent,’ or ‘A choice you’ve made isn’t in line with what I believe makes a good parent,’” she said.  But in reality, when and how a parent chooses to return to work after taking leave is none of your business as their colleague. “You don’t know all of the details about why a parent chooses to stay home as a primary caregiver or return to work, and a parent may not want to share this information at work,” Carnahan said.  Related comments can include expressions of shock like: “Wow! I could never handle X number of kids and do my job!”

Beacom said this kind of remark is usually meant as a compliment, but instead sends a message “that they shouldn’t come back to work, they can’t handle it, and they might as well quit. And definitely not have any more kids.”

  1. “You look tired.” Or, “You look great.”

Comments about appearance can carry implicit judgments about how a working parent “should” look.  “You look tired,” for example, is not a helpful nor a groundbreaking comment to hear as a new parent coming back to work.  “The parent is absolutely tired, but pointing out how it is clearly showing in a professional setting, when the parent has likely spent a good amount of time trying not to look tired, isn’t helpful,” Carnahan said. “Simply flipping this to ‘How can I support you as you transition back into this work?’ is much more helpful.“  Even compliments about their appearance can be a well-intentioned attempt to connect, but it often doesn’t land that way, Beacom said. It can be interpreted as a suggestion that they didn’t look good before, and it “doesn’t acknowledge their inner experience and can make them feel unseen and alone,” Beacom said. It “can lead to alienation.”

  1. “You really left us in a pickle” and “We really had to pick up the slack while you were gone.”

Delvaux said some of the most common insensitive comments she hears boil down to: “You took time away and you should feel bad about that, because you really left us to pick up your slack.”  “What we see sometimes within company culture is, generally there is no training on parental leave management,” Delvaux said, noting that she often sees friction when a team feels overwhelmed by an employee’s absence. Colleagues sometimes take out that resentment on the employee when they come back from leave, instead of directing it toward management.  Delvaux outlined a common scenario: An employee named Lisa goes on maternity leave and the company does not provide enough coverage, so Jim, her co-worker, has to do both her job and his own, causing him to become overwhelmed and angry at Lisa.

“That’s an operational failure. That’s not Lisa’s fault, that’s not even Jim’s fault ― the company didn’t plan to account for that gap in labor,” Delvaux said, adding that “unfortunately a lot of companies, they just expect the team to absorb the labor.“  As a result, employees who bear the brunt of being understaffed will take out their frustrations on the employee who took maternal leave, with resentful comments like “I really had to pick up all of your slack” and “Must be nice to just sit at home while I was doing your job,” Delvaux said.  “There is a feeling of unfairness and frustration towards the mother going on leave and leaving. We really see this in fast-paced work environments, especially in places where you see quarterly metrics and KPIs [key performance indicators],” Delvaux said. “Those kind of structures don’t really allow for absences.”  Watching their team get overburdened can make the mother feel like they’ve let their team down and exceeded the generosity of their employer, and can cause them to come back from maternal leave earlier than they’d wanted to ― even though their leave is not a generous privilege, Delvaux said, but a right.

“In healthy workplaces, no one feels jaded and resentful towards each other when they have life events occurring,” she said. “In places where that doesn’t exist and where work is the religion and we’re all bowing to the god of work … it’s a hard as an employee to break the culture.”
