Tom Brady Lands Post-NFL Job

Tom Brady will join Fox Sports as its lead NFL analyst when his playing career ends.  Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch announced the news Tuesday during an earnings call. The seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback will call games alongside lead play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt and also will work as an “ambassador” for Fox with a focus on “client and promotional initiatives.”  “We are delighted that Tom has committed to joining the Fox team and wish him all the best during this upcoming season,” Murdoch said.  Brady tweeted that he is excited to eventually join Fox but noted he still has “unfinished business” as a player.  Brady briefly retired earlier this offseason but announced last month that he had changed his mind and will return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2022 season.

Wendy Williams Claims She’s Returning To TV

Wendy Williams is not returning to her talk show this fall.  She remains emphatic that she’ll be back in her purple chair in September — but it’s “logistically impossible,” according to multiple insiders.  For starters, TV pros point out, the production company, Debmar-Mercury, signed a deal with “The View” alum Sherri Shepherd to take over Williams’ time slots.  “Where’s she gonna go? It’s done. Logistically, it won’t work. Sherri has her time slots,” an insider says.  Williams sat down for an IG Live with Fat Joe over the weekend and insisted she’ll “absolutely” be returning, and that she won’t be tuning in for Shepherd’s show.  “I’m coming back to ‘The Wendy Williams Show.’ Absolutely. Absolutely,” she told the rapper, who has been filling in with Remy Ma as a guest-host during Williams’ absence.  And when it comes to Shepherd’s show: “That’s not really my thing… anyway, but I love being on my own show, and I love that people love to watch it all the time,” she said.  “The Wendy Williams Show” will officially end in June.
*********She also claims that a flying unicorn has been following her for the past month!!

Monroe Painting Sells Big

A famous Andy Warhol silkscreen of Marilyn Monroe sold for $195 million at a Christie’s charity auction Monday night, setting a record for the most expensive piece of American art ever sold.  The iconic Warhol painting shattered the previous record set by the late Brooklyn artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s untitled 1982 skull painting, which fetched $110.5 million dollars at a Sotheby’s auction in New York in 2017. Warhol had held the record prior to Basquiat after his 1963 work “Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster)” sold for $105.4 million in 2013.  The auction house estimated Warhol’s 1964 painting at $200 million before the event.  The winning bidder was identified as art dealer Larry Gagosian.  All proceeds from Lot 36A will go to the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation Zurich, which put the painting up for auction. The foundation aims to help children with health care and educational programs.
******That’s a lot more money than Marilyn ever made in her entire lifetime!!

The Queen Skips The Opening Of Parliament

Queen Elizabeth delegated the formal opening of Parliament to her son and heir, Prince Charles.  The ceremony, which includes the reading of the Queen’s Speech laying out the government’s legislative program, is considered an important symbol of the monarch’s constitutional role as head of state.  The queen’s decision to delegate her role to Charles is likely to be seen by the public as evidence that a transition is underway, with the 96-year-old monarch remaining on the throne but turning over more responsibilities to Charles.  “The heir is teetering on the edge of becoming a de facto prince regent. William will observe what awaits him,” said former BBC royal reporter Peter Hunt. “With the queen progressively withdrawing from public life, the palace is keen to show the monarchy is safe in the hands of father and son.”
********Right!! Would YOU want Charles to run YOUR business???

Chappelle’s Attack Won’t Make It To Netflix

Dave Chappelle‘s May 3rd performance at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival, during which he was attacked onstage at The Hollywood Bowl, will not be added to the Netflix library.  The decision was made before Chappelle even took to the stage last week, the outlet reports. Netflix never planned to share the set with its subscribers, and “made it clear” prior to his performance that Chappelle’s shows at The Hollywood Bowl “were not being taped for a special,” per THR.  Still, that doesn’t mean footage of the set — and the moment Chappelle was allegedly tackled by suspect Isaiah Lee — doesn’t exist. While there are a few spotty cell phone videos of the moment circulating on social media, Chappelle’s Hollywood Bowl show was professionally recorded by his own cameras.  The attack took place while Chappelle was mid-set last Tuesday. Lee was quickly apprehended onstage and has since been charged with four misdemeanors; he pleaded not guilty on Friday to all charges. Shortly after the attack, Netflix released a statement standing by Chappelle and all of its performers.
*****Damn!! That’s the only reason we wanted to tune in!!
******On a positive note, Amazon is running a special on that “combination plastic gun and knife set!!”

Jeopardy Fans Angry With New Choice

Ken Jennings announced that Mayim Bialik would be taking over as host, which seemed to upset Twitter users.  “Congratulations to Mattea Roach on a truly iconic @Jeopardy streak. I believe she’s one of only three champs in history ever to ‘shoot their age’: 23 years old, 23 wins,” Jennings tweeted earlier this week.  “I’m handing the keys back to the talented actor-producer-writer-director (!) @missmayim for a few months. We are lucky to have her! Thanks for watching, and I’ll be back before the end of the season,” he added.  Fans expressed their contempt for her return, with one writing: “Ken is IT! He knows the game & game strategy, he is funny, quick as heck, humble & endearingly self-effacing. The comments are overwhelmingly in favor of him for permanent host.”  “NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! NOT MAYIM BIALIK!!! I WANT AARON RODGERS!!!” a user squealed. “ANYBODY BUT MAYIM BIALIK!!! I AM NOT GOING TO WATCH JEOPARDY! AS LONG AS SHE IS HOSTING!!!”  Another added, “No, no, and NO! When are they going to give you permanent keys Ken? You do a much more professional job — most worthy of filling Alex’s shoes!”  “It’s not that I won’t watch because my favorite isn’t hosting, I just don’t enjoy the show when he’s not hosting,” one said.
**********Wow… don’t hold back!! Say what you feel!!
******We thought Mayim’s new hairdo would make her more likeable!!

Rihanna’s Pre-Baby Drama-(Star)

With her due date approaching, will the singer, 34, stand by A$AP Rocky after his recent arrest?  It wasn’t the welcome home that A$AP Rocky expected when he returned from a trip to Barbados with Rihanna.  On April 20, the 33-year-old was cuffed at Los Angeles International Airport in connection to a shooting that took place in Hollywood last year. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s relationship already had been rocked by cheating rumors a week prior to the arrest.  “Rihanna’s in her third trimester and the stress of this drama is the last thing she needs,” the source notes.  “She still loves Rocky, but she’s got to think of herself and the baby.”

Rope Skipping Record

A South African athlete unofficially broke a jump roping world record when he completed 71,185 skips in eight hours.  SD Heijns, 21, took on the record at Time Square in the Menlyn area of Pretoria. His rope skips were tallied by the Sports Science Lab using electronic equipment.  Heijns completed 71,185 skips in the eight hour period, besting the Guinness World Record of 70,031 skips, which was set by U.S. athlete Sella Rosa Rega in 2019.  Evidence from Heijns’ attempt is now being submitted to Guinness World Records for official recognition.  He said he is now planning to break other records for rope skipping in the 12-hour and 24-hour categories.  See the video HERE.

Alligator Goes Thru Drive-thru

Customers at a fast food restaurant in North Carolina spotted something unusual on the sidewalk next to the drive-through: an alligator.  Bart Gore said he was waiting in line for the drive-through at the Bojangles eatery in Southport when he noticed the unusual customer.  “Right before I got to the speaker to place my order, I noticed the alligator crossing the parking lot, heading towards the building,” Gore told McClatchy News. “I was quite surprised. It didn’t seem like anyone really noticed him at first.”  Gore captured video of the alligator walking on the sidewalk next to the restaurant and his wife posted the footage to Facebook.  “I filmed for just a moment and then continued on up to the speaker to order my breakfast,” Gore said.  See the video HERE.

Sheep Smashes Reflection

Residents of a New Zealand town were surprised to discover the culprit who smashed a business window late at night was an escaped sheep.  Michael Walsh posted a video to Facebook showing security camera footage from the late-night act of vandalism at a business in Onehunga, a suburb of Auckland.  The video shows the sheep repeatedly attacking its own reflection in the business window until its third headbutt shatters the glass.  “Yet another ram raid last night. It’s really getting out of hand,” Walsh wrote.  See the video HERE.

Final Exam Locked In Safe

Firefighters in the western German town of Bocholt received an unusual distress call Friday from a local high school after teachers were unable to open a safe containing the questions for a final-year exam that students were due to take.  Firefighters raced to the scene to find that the lock had jammed and set about sawing open the safe, the Bocholt fire department said.  “That way the students were able to sit their exam with about an hour’s delay,” it said.  While teachers cheered the firefighters for saving the day, the reaction from students was mixed.  “Some of them would probably have enjoyed a sunny day off instead,” said fire department spokesman Matthias Hanne.

8 Big Signs Your New Boss May Be Toxic

  1. Your boss is quick to bad-mouth the person you just replaced

Angela Karachristos, a career coach who has worked in human resources, said one subtle sign new employees can notice is when their new boss bad-mouths the team members who have left.

“If you’re new and your new boss is still hung up on why someone left, and is still taking it personally, that’s one sign that you can spot early on,” Karachristos said. It brings “to light that the manager doesn’t separate their personal feelings about an employee from the work that they did or [the employee’s] own need to move on.”

The public bad-mouthing is also passive-aggressive because it signals “that behavior is unacceptable” without telling you directly, Karachristos said. “They are not telling you what their expectations are, but they are using the past employee as an example.”

  1. Your boss will congratulate themselves, but will not praise anyone else

One way to suss out toxic boss behavior is to see how hard work and team wins get rewarded. Do you get a thoughtful message of support after completing a big project, or do you get radio silence?

If you are noticing that your boss says nothing when you win but makes a big deal about their own accomplishments, that’s a worrying red flag of potential toxicity.

One type of toxic boss is a narcissistic boss. “These are individuals who are basically incapable of caring for others or showing genuine interest in those working for them. Instead, they tend to be disconnected from others,” said Alan Cavaiola, a clinical psychologist and co-author of “Impossible to Please: How to Deal With Perfectionist Coworkers, Controlling Spouses, and Other Incredibly Critical People.” “The narcissists will expect praise and adulation from others but are unable to give it to deserving staff.”

  1. Your boss keeps ignoring you

Be on guard if you notice that your new boss skips one-on-one meetings and does not show interest in helping you, even though you are their new team member.

If you feel as if you hardly exist to your boss, that’s a sign of potential toxicity, said Lynn Taylor, a workplace expert and author of “Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant: How to Manage Childish Boss Behavior and Thrive in Your Job.”

Under this kind of boss, “you feel you constantly have to get their attention to provide feedback. Their door is often closed and conversations are rare,” Taylor said. “You are led to believe they’re just busy, but then you realize that they lack motivational managerial skills to say the least.”

Taylor said you may encounter this challenging behavior subtly or blatantly. “When you’re in a new job, it takes some time to process whether this is just a bad week for your boss, or their default behavior,” she said.

  1. Your boss only cares about whether you complete a deadline and doesn’t give feedback on how you can grow

Toxic bosses prioritize output over your input. If your boss has a “get it done” mentality, that could be a toxic red flag, said career coach Jasmine Escalera.

“It should be our boss’s job to be thoughtful about how we can work best, what we need to get our jobs done, and how we can truly grow within our roles and throughout the company,” she said. “Toxic bosses are all about getting work done, but do not focus on your own needs for development and work that taps into your strengths and skills.”

A good boss is one that communicates goals and is willing to have difficult conversations with their staff. “Essentially a manager who has no conflict resolution skills will more than likely turn out to be toxic and won’t have a psychologically safe working environment for their team,” said Minda Harts, founder of The Memo LLC, a career development company for women of color.

  1. Your boss changes their mind all the time without regard for the stress this causes to the team

A hallmark of a toxic boss is a lack of empathy. A good boss is mindful of the time and energy staff are putting in to meet their expectations.

But a toxic boss is willing to change their mind at a moment’s notice, without any regard for the team’s energy or stress levels. “They get very hyper-focused on one thing,” Karachristos said. “It becomes the sole focus of everybody’s attention. There’s not a clear plan, but it’s all hands on deck, [but then] all of a sudden it’s not anymore. This changing-mind situation can be very dangerous, because you are setting people up to fail.”

“That can cause a lot of anxiety on the team, because you don’t know what is expected,” Karachristos continued. “The first time you might be OK with it, but if it becomes a pattern, then you are always on edge because you are not sure what you are supposed to be doing.”

  1. Your new co-workers act totally differently around your boss

It’s normal for us to act more formally around our managers than around our peers. But if you notice a chilling pallor cast over staff when the boss enters a room, that’s a warning sign to watch out for.

“If you notice that together the team talks freely and openly about problems and issues and whatever they are working on, but then when the boss is present, the conversations are much more cautious, or measured, or things are not brought to light out of fear that the boss is going to react in some way,” that’s a warning sign, Karachristos said.

Colleagues being unwilling to share any thoughts about your boss is a sign, too. “In the beginning, other colleagues will avoid chatting about the boss, raising your suspicions that they, too, are having similar issues,” Taylor said.

  1. You notice the boss shows favoritism to certain team members

If you realize your boss has a team favorite, that’s a troubling toxic sign of a boss putting their own personal biases ahead of shared professional goals.

Taylor shared an example: “When you were interviewed, you liked the projects slated for you. But now your challenging boss is suddenly giving them to the proverbial ‘teacher’s pet,’ and you’re often the last to know.”

A boss with favorites may also have colleagues they consider enemies. Watch out for the vague, subjective feedback these bosses give that is based on someone’s personal attributes rather than on their ability to do the job well.

“I had one manager who kept referring to everything in vibes. ‘I don’t know, this employee gives me bad vibes.’ That’s so bad. That’s not quantifiable. It’s really meaningless,” Karachristos said.

  1. Your boss puts you on edge and makes you scared to speak up

Ultimately, one of the biggest signs that you are dealing with a toxic boss is how badly they are making you feel. If you start dreading the workday and you’re only a few weeks in, that’s not a feeling to ignore.

Under a toxic boss, “you don’t know when and where your manager will say or do something hurtful, so you’re in a constant state of the unknown,” Taylor said. “You wonder if it’s you — as this is a new job. You had chalked it up to your boss having a bad day, but now you’re seeing a pattern.”

Because toxic manager behavior can be subtle or easy to explain away, it can be easier to notice changes in your own behavior around them, said Lara Hogan, author of “Resilient Management.”

“Are you speaking up significantly less in team meetings that they’re leading? Are you holding back from sharing information with them for fear of retaliation? Are you starting to choose your words extremely carefully around them? Are you avoiding being in a room or call alone with your manager?” Hogan said. “These are all potential signals to you that your manager’s behavior might be having a significantly negative impact on you.”
