Lindsay Lohan Gets Netflix Movie

Netflix announced a new movie starring Lindsay Lohan on their social media Monday. It will be her first movie with Netflix.  The streaming service described the movie as a romantic comedy. Lohan would play an engaged, spoiled hotel heiress. When she gets amnesia after a skiing accident, a blue-collar lodge owner and his daughter take care of her.  Lohan was a child actor in the ’90s. She found fame and success in a string of Disney movies: The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and Herbie: Fully Loaded.  During that time, Lohan also released two albums in 2004 and 2005. In 2020, Lohan released her first single since 2008, “Back to Me.”  After Lohan’s success in 2004’s teen comedy Mean Girls, she starred in Just My Luck, Georgia Rule and I Know Who Killed Me.  In 2014, Lohan starred in a reality series about her recovery and attempts to rebuild her career.

John Cena Apologizes To China

John Cena, who is appearing in “F9,” apologized on Tuesday to his Chinese audience for referring to Taiwan as a country — saying, “I’m very, very sorry about my mistake. I apologize, I apologize, I’m very sorry.”  In an interview with a Taiwanese broadcaster to promote the new “Fast and Furious” film earlier this month, Cena, speaking Mandarin, said: “Taiwan is the first country that can watch ‘F9,’” sparking a firestorm of criticism in one of Hollywood’s largest international markets.  His comments triggered immediate backlash in China, which considers Taiwan, a self-governing island state, part of its territory.  Cena on Tuesday posted a video on Chinese social media site Weibo saying he’s sorry and professing his love for China.  “Hi China, I’m John Cena. I’m in the middle of ‘Fast and Furious 9’ promotions. I’m doing a lot of interviews. I made a mistake in one of my interviews,” he said.  “I made one mistake. I have to say something very, very, very important now. I love and respect China and Chinese people. I’m very, very sorry about my mistake. I apologize, I apologize, I’m very sorry. You must understand that I really love, really respect China and the Chinese people. My apologies. See you,” he said. ”F9,” directed by Taiwanese-born Justin Lin, is seeing success at the box office in China, grossing nearly $137 million since opening there last Friday.

Prince Harry Claims He Never Rode A Bike With His Dad

Prince Harry claimed that he “was never able” to ride a bike with his dad, Prince Charles, but photos have resurfaced of him doing just that many years ago.  During his and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, Harry listed bike riding as one of the many perks of living in California after the couple resigned from their duties as British royals last year.  “The highlight for me is sticking [my son, Archie] on the back of a bicycle in his little baby seat and taking him on bike rides, which is something I was never able to do when I was young,” the prince claimed at the time. “I can seat him on the back, and he’s got his arms out, and he’s like, ‘Whoa.’”  However, several photos from Harry’s past that popped up online this week show that he was freely able to ride on the back of his father’s bike several times as a child.  In one photo from 1990, a young Harry is seen sitting in a seat attached to the back of Charles’ bicycle as they ride beside his brother, Prince William.  In another black-and-white snapshot from 1988, the Prince of Wales is pictured riding a bike while pulling Harry in a wagon behind him in Scotland.  And another family photo from 1989 shows William and Harry and their parents, Charles and Princess Diana, posing together in the Isles of Scilly — each on their own bike.
*******Hmmm… liar? Much???
*****Can Harry stop whining now???

Matthew Perry Pitching Vaccine Shirts

Friends” star Matthew Perry touted more merchandise Monday ahead of this week’s HBO Max reunion special. But some fans seem less than pleased that he is modeling a black T-shirt emblazoned with the Chandler-emphatic question, “Could I be any more vaccinated?”  After he posted the image to Twitter and Instagram, fans called him out for linking the reunion with vaccinations during the coronavirus pandemic.  “Making money from a t-shirt relating to vaccines is in bad taste. Could I BE any more annoyed,” responded one commenter, while another said simply, “i love you but this tshirt is not it haha.” One respondent dryly noted, “Just propaganda machines for life huh? That’s all celebs are anymore.”  Others chipped away at Perry’s marketing efforts on Instagram — where his post was “liked” by his “Friends” castmate Jennifer Aniston — saying, “they are monetizing their sudden rise in popularity because of the reunion. Just capitalism at work here, nothing new.” And another simply asked, “Why would I give a multi millionaire even more money?” Last week, Perry debuted the line of merchandise, which includes sweatshirts as well as items for kids and pets, starting at $14.99 on up.

Ellen Buys Back Old House

Ellen DeGeneres bought back her Montecito, California, ranch for $14.3 million. She along with Portia de Rossi, initially purchased the property, dubbed Rancho San Leandro, back in 2017 for $7.2 million before flipping it and selling it for $11 million in 2018 at a hefty profit. Now it would seem DeGeneres is feeling a bit sentimental and wants to make the ranch her home again.  This comes amid a torrent of allegations of toxic workplace behavior and bullying. However, the comedian has said her departure from the talk show was long planned as she seeks a new creative challenge.  The home is located right next door to Oprah Winfrey’s 70-acre estate in a neighborhood that’s home to a growing list of celebrities, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Rob Lowe and Tyler Perry.  Situated on nearly six acres, the compound spans over 6,700 square feet and has four bedrooms and six bathrooms. The sale took place on April 23, property records show.
********Whew!!! We were worried that she didn’t have anywhere to live!!!
*******She wants to keep it real, and live next to normal people… like Oprah and Meghan!!!

Kitten Goes Through The Car Wash

Police in New York said a kitten trapped under a vehicle went through a car wash before being discovered by the driver and rescued by authorities.  The Cheektowaga Police Department said the driver had made an approximately 10-mile drive from Buffalo to Cheektowaga, gone through a car wash and parked at a mall before a bystander heard the kitten meowing in distress under the vehicle.  A pair of police officers were called to the scene and climbed under the vehicle to rescue the feline.  The owner of the vehicle said she did not know where the kitten could have come from, as she does not own a cat.

Boy Finds Big Cash In New SUV

A 9-year-old Indiana boy cleaning out the SUV his family bought in September made a discovery his father found it difficult to believe: $5,000 cash.  Landon Melvin was cleaning out his family’s Chevrolet Suburban in Plainfield when he found an envelope under a floor mat that contained the cash.  The boy told his father, Michael Melvin, about the discovery in the vehicle, which the family had purchased in September 2020, but his dad had a difficult time believing the story was accurate.  “I was like, ‘Whatever.’ He’s 9,” Michael Melvin told WRTV. “I’m like ‘you found something, OK.’ He says, ‘No, Dad I really did.’ I walk over. I see it. I reach down. I say, you know, ‘What is this?’ And, I’m thinking it’s probably paperwork of some sort.”  The “paperwork” was indeed $5,000 cash. The Melvins contacted the previous owners of the SUV, a South Carolina family. The family told them they had driven the Suburban to Florida for a cruise in 2019 and had misplaced the envelope of money during the trip. The family insisted that Landon Melvin keep $1,000 of the money as a finder’s fee.

Winning Lottery Ticket Almost Tossed

The owners of a Massachusetts store returned a $1 million winning lottery ticket to a customer who had thought it was a losing ticket and asked for it to be thrown away.   Lea Rose Fiega, of Springfield, claimed a $1 million prize from the Massachusetts State Lottery, but she nearly missed out on the jackpot after confusing her Diamond Millions scratch-off ticket for a losing one.  Abhi Shah, whose family owns the Lucky Stop store in Southwick, said Fiega scratched the ticket off while still inside the store and handed it back to Shah’s mother, asking her to throw it away.  The ticket was placed on a stack behind the counter, where it remained for 10 days before Shah decided to scan the pile of supposed losing tickets.  Shah said he discovered the ticket hadn’t been completely scratched off, and he completed it to discover the $1 million prize.  Shah spoke with his family, and they agreed the ticket should be returned to Fiega, who is a regular customer and well-known to the family.

Guy Leaves Big Tip To Impress Date, Then Takes It Back!!!

A man took his date out for a lavish meal, sparing no expense in an attempt to make himself look incredibly generous.  He didn’t actually have the money to do so and was caught out in his little charade by a waitress at the restaurant.  The anonymous worker, from the US, shared the story on Reddit’s Tales From Your Server forum, where it garnered A LOT of attention.  In her post, the woman began by explaining how the customer initially appeared to be charming and was the “picture of courtesy and good manners”.  “So the evening starts wrapping up and I get their check. I ask if they’ll be together or separate. She starts to say ‘Separate,’ but he makes a big deal of saying, ‘Oh, are you kidding? Together, definitely together. You never have to pay when you’re with me babe,’ and so on and so forth. Then slides me a credit card.  “He fills it out and it came to $289.00 total. He doesn’t even blink and makes a big show of leaving a $100 tip. He thanks me for my service and emphasizes what a lovely night they’ve had.”  The server is stunned and thanks him profusely for the tip. He tells her it’s only fair as waitstaff are vastly “under-appreciated”, then the pair put on their coats and leave.  However, a few moments later the man reappears without his date, proclaiming loudly as he walks through the door that he thinks he left something inside.  “Then when the door shut, he goes, without the slightest shade of shame or embarrassment, ‘Mark the tip down to twenty bucks Hun, I was just playing it up for my date. You understand.’ And turns to go.”  She really wanted to do something to alert the woman to the “red flag” but felt it wasn’t her place and wasn’t very professional of her to do while she was at work – then she realized he hadn’t signed the new receipt to approve the change.  “So, I flagged him down and rushed across the street, nearly stumbling into traffic in my haste for a delicious moment.  “I made it across and said, more than loudly enough for her to hear, ‘Sir, we amended your tip from $100 down to $20 as you requested, but you’ll actually need to fill out a different receipt reflecting your new total for our records. Your old receipt still has your original tip of $100 written on it, but since you just came in and asked us to charge you $20 instead, we can’t have a discrepancy in our records. I hope you understand. This is just a bookkeeping regulation that goes way above me. It has nothing to do with your retroactively downgrading your tip to $20 from $100 , we’re just glad you enjoyed your evening.’  “His jaw was on the floor.”  Eventually, he agreed to sign the new receipt and the “girlfriend was visibly shocked” by the whole thing.
*****You must mean… his EX-girlfriend!!!

STUFF THAT’S COOL AND VIRAL

A LIST FOR WEDNESDAY

7 Ways to Make the Most of Summer Without a Job

Huffington Post

  1. Take Free Online Classes

Going to class might not be your first choice for summer break, but this is a smart time to develop valuable career skills.

MOOCs, massive open online courses, let you take classes from real universities — even heavy hitters like MIT and Harvard — online for free.

Here are five important soft skills you can learn through free online courses this summer:

  • Emotional intelligence
  • Multicultural literacy
  • Storytelling and communication
  • Personal branding and social media literacy
  • A new language

Pick them up through these free MOOCs.

You can bone up on hard skills through online tutorials, too. These skills will come in handy in any field:

  • How to use a spreadsheet
  • How to use G-Suite apps
  • How to use WordPress
  • How to use social media
  • How to edit video and audio
  • How to edit photos and graphics
  • How to administer first aid
  • How to analyze data

  1. Earn Credits for Free

The College Level Examination Program lets you earn college credit in basic subjects like math and history by taking an exam.

CLEP exams cost $89, but you can get fees covered through Modern States’ Freshman Year for Free program. Enroll for free online courses and tutoring through the program, and it covers your CLEP exam fee.

Test centers live on college campuses and other locations around the country, and you have to show up in person for an exam. You can generally schedule your exam any time the campus is open for classes (including summer semesters).

Test centers will be closed if their host campuses are closed, but the program currently offers the option of taking the CLEP exam at home via remote proctoring.

  1. Apply for a Project Grant

Use the summer to work on your own creative project! It could make good resume fodder — especially if you win a grant to fund it.

Check out these resources to find grants for artists:

  • Format Magazine’s list of 36 art grants.
  • Candid Learning’s information on how to find and apply for grants for individual artists.
  • The Awesome Foundation makes $1,000 grants at 89 worldwide chapters each month for any kind of “crazy brilliant idea” (not just in the arts).

Even if you don’t win a grant, completing a project that will impress a prospective employer could pay off big time in the future.

  1. Volunteer

If a lost internship or job opportunity leaves a hole in your summer schedule, consider filling it with volunteer work. The experience looks good on your resume, and volunteering can be just as valuable as job experience for building useful career skills and networking.

The same way companies have shifted to remote work in response to the pandemic, lots of nonprofit organizations have moved volunteer work online, too. Find volunteer opportunities online and in your area through Idealist.

  1. Freelance in a Related Field

Tons of work that might be relevant to your future career could be available online as freelance gigs.

Freelance writing is especially in demand and it provides the opportunity to start working without a degree, experience or particular expertise (though each of these could earn you more money down the line).

Start by looking for freelance blogging jobs, which usually have a lower barrier to entry. Once you get a few published pieces under your belt, try pitching a story to a higher-paying outlet.

Not a writer? Try your hand at being a virtual assistant, graphic designer or one of these more unusual freelance jobs:

  • Calligrapher
  • (Online) date concierge
  • Fabric reseller
  • Virtual recruiter
  • PowerPoint presentation designer
  • Children’s book illustrator
  • Genealogist
  • Greeting card writer

If you recently graduated without work or internship experience, freelancing could be a way to earn money while beefing up your resume before applying for full-time jobs.

“Employers don’t really hire for potential — you’ve got to be able to show how you’ve applied that potential in some way,” says Alison Green at Ask a Manager. “Even with entry-level jobs, you’re going to be up against other entry-level candidates who have some amount of experience.”

  1. Find Online Jobs

Did your plans for summer work fall through and now you need to quickly pivot? Take your job search online, where you’ll find some unusual opportunities to fill the summer months.

Here are some side gigs you can do online while social distancing:

  • Join video game tournaments
  • Work for a political or advocacy campaign
  • Perform music, comedy, magic or anything else online
  • Be a bookkeeper
  • Do online research through Wonder
  • Be a transcriptionist
  • Be an online tutor

  1. Apply for College Scholarships

Another option for covering next semester’s tuition: Apply for scholarships.

Several scholarships require you to submit an essay with your application, so summer break — when you don’t have other schoolwork — is a great time to focus on them.

Search for scholarships from your college, county, municipality or state; from organizations that support people of your race, ethnicity, gender or other demographics; or from organizations that support your field or interests.
