The actor will play the Grinch, with Denis O’Hare as the Grinch’s dog Max and Booboo Stewart as a younger Max. Alex Trebek’s Hometown To Honor Him

Alex Trebek’s hometown of Greater Sudbury, Ontario, is hoping to memorialize the late “Jeopardy!” star.   After hosting the show since 1984, he became somewhat of a hometown hero in his native city in Canada. Now, the city’s mayor is reportedly going to take steps to honor him in a public space.  According to TMZ, Mayor Brian Bigger has been fielding requests on social media to erect some type of public work of art honoring Trebek for bringing attention to his hometown. While ideas for a mural or statue have been floated, Bigger suggests linking the famous TV personality to a new public library set to be built over the next few years.  “On behalf of @GreaterSudbury I want to express our condolences to the Trebek family,” the mayor wrote in a Twitter thread.  The city joined the myriad of fans, celebrities and former “Jeopardy!” contestants who felt compelled to pay tribute to the late star following news of his death.

Scooby-Doo Co-Creator Dies

Ken Spears, co-creator of the iconic cartoon “Scooby-Doo,” died Friday at age 82.  His death was confirmed Monday to Variety by his son Kevin, who said he died of complications from Lewy body dementia.  “Ken will forever be remembered for his wit, his storytelling, his loyalty to family and his strong work ethic,” Kevin Spears told Variety. “Ken has not only made a lasting impression on his family, but he has touched the lives of many as co-creator of ‘Scooby-Doo.’ Ken has been a role model for us throughout his life and he will continue to live on in our hearts.”  He created the animated show “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” in 1969 with cartoonist and writing partner Joe Ruby, who died just this August at age 87. Besides documenting the mystery-solving exploits of that show’s characters — Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy and their dopey mutt sidekick Scooby — Spears and Ruby created several other 1970s-era cartoons together, including “Dynomutt, Dog Wonder” and “Jabberjaw.”

Kobe Bryant’s Childhood Home Sold

The childhood home of the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant has been sold for $810,000, according to TMZ Sports. He lived in the 5-bedroom, 3.5-bath property in the Wynnewood suburb of Philadelphia, when he led Lower Merion High School to the state championship in 1996 and garnered national attention as a star basketball prospect.  The suburban home initially hit the market in September with a price tag of $899,000. The latest sale closed on Nov. 6.  The property includes a wonderful house, but the most appealing aspect is the sizable backyard and driveway, which still features the original hoop that the adolescent future Lakers superstar undoubtedly utilized for many hours every day.

Mike Tyson Used Fake Penis For Drug Testing

Mike Tyson has revealed exactly how he used a fake penis to avoid failing a drugs test during his boxing career.  He admitted using the ‘whizzinator’ in his 2013 autobiography Undisputed Truth, saying he would squeeze his thighs together to submit clean urine through the contraption – a bag connected to a plastic tube resembling a penis – during a period at the height of his career when he regularly took marijuana and cocaine.  Speaking on his Hotboxin’ podcast, he said he would use the urine of his then wife, Monica Turner, and even his young child to avoid detection.  “It was awesome, man,” Tyson said of the whizzinator. “I put my baby’s urine in it. One time I was using my wife’s [urine] and my wife was like: ‘Baby, you better not hope that it comes back pregnant or something.’  “And I said ‘Nah, so we ain’t gonna use you any more, we’re gonna use the kid’. Because I got scared that the piss might come back pregnant. That was what I was afraid of. I guess I heard of this happening because I was afraid of that.” Tyson is set to come out of retirement for an upcoming exhibition match against fellow boxing veteran Roy Jones Jr later this month.

STUPID NEWS

Emu On The Loose

Police in California said an emu spotted wandering loose through a residential neighborhood was lassoed with the help of an animal services officer.  The Pleasanton Police Department said Animal Services officer Frankie Ayers and community service officer Amy Martin responded to the report of the large, flightless bird running loose in the Preserve neighborhood in west Pleasanton.  “This was called in by several residents, as the emu was sitting in the front yard of a residence off of Blessing Drive,” Pleasanton police Lt. Kurt Schlehuber told the Pleasanton Weekly.  Ayers and Martin, who both had animal-wrangling experience from growing up on farms, were able to lasso the flightless Australian bird and take it to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office’s animal shelter, where it was reunited with its owner.

Pennsylvania State Police said a loose pig found wandering on a road was safely rounded up by troopers, but its origins remain unknown.  Troopers from the state police’s Newport station were dispatched Monday night on a report of an animal wandering loose in a roadway.  The troopers lured the pig to them and safely apprehended the animal.  “They then wrapped the pig in a blanket (see what we did there?) and placed it in the back of their vehicle,” state police tweeted.  Police said they are now trying to find the owner of the pig, which was taken to the Short & Curlies Animal Rescue and Sanctuary in New Bloomfield.

Carrier Pigeon Found 110 Years Later!

A couple hiking in northeastern France came across an unusual historical artifact — a carrier pigeon message dating from 110 years earlier.  Jade Halaoui said he was hiking with his partner in the Ingersheim area when they spotted a tiny aluminum cylinder on the ground.  “I dug it up and I cut it to see what was inside,” Halaoui recalled to the Les Dernieres Nouvelles d’Alsace newspaper.  Inside was a small piece of paper bearing a message the couple could not make out. They took it to the Linge Memorial museum, where curator Dominique Jardy enlisted the help of a German-speaking friend to translate the small script.  The message, dated July 16 and believed to have been from the year 1910, was authored by a Prussian infantry officer and details military drills in the Ingersheim area when Alsace was under German control.  Jardy said the aluminum capsule is believed to have been dropped by the carrier pigeon tasked with delivering it to its intended recipient.  The message will now be displayed at the museum.

Family Builds Disneyland Ride In Backyard

A California family who missed going to Disneyland amid the COVID-19 pandemic passed the time during lockdown by building a smaller version of the Matterhorn roller coaster in their back yard.  Brothers Sean and Michael LaRochelle said they came up with the idea for the Matterhorn Alpine Escape in March and pitched their parents, Jacques and Diana LaRochelle, the idea of building the Disney-inspired coaster in the back yard of the family’s Carneros backyard.  Sean and Michael enlisted the help of their parents, as well as siblings Mark and Nicole, to build the roller coaster. They started work in March and finished the project in July.  “Growing up, Disneyland was something I loved,” Sean LaRochelle, an architecture graduate student, told the Napa Valley Register. “I’ve always wanted to create a roller coaster.”  The end result was a roller coaster about 20 feet tall with a track measuring about 400 feet long. The family said the ride takes about 50 seconds.  See the video HERE.
