McConaughey OK With Kids Going Into Acting
Matthew McConaughey is opening up about the possibility of his kids following in his footsteps within the acting industry. He has three kids with his wife, Camila Alves — Levi, Vida and Livingston. He recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about his family, gushing over his eldest child’s particular skill at storytelling. “He’s a great salesman, he’s a great debater, he’s a great storyteller, he’s becoming a really good storyteller,” McConaughey said of young Levi. “He and I, we riff up stories and he knows, we give a little wink when we embellish somewhere, like ‘Oh, that didn’t happen, but hey, it’s better for the story,’ but for the most part he’s very active and he’s becoming a good buddy of mine now as he’s reaching 12.” He said much like himself, Levi has a “perfectionist bone in him.” When questioned about whether he would approve of his children embarking into acting careers of their own one day, he said he wouldn’t have any problems. “Look, I want them to do whatever it is they’re fashioned to do,” he told the outlet. “Whatever they have an innate ability to do, and are willing to put in the work to get better at it. Whatever that is, I want them to do that. If that becomes something in the industry that I’m in? Bravo. I’ve met some of the most wonderful people in my life in my industry, I love what I do. R Kelly Trial To Have Anonymous Jury
R Kelly’s federal sex trafficking case in Brooklyn will be heard by an anonymous and partially sequestered jury, according to a newly unsealed decision. US District Judge Ann Donnelly issued the ruling on Oct. 8, but it was only made public on Friday. “The government has established that empaneling an anonymous and partially sequestered jury is warranted,” wrote Donnelly. She said marshals would escort jurors in and out of the Brooklyn federal courthouse each day and sequester them during all breaks to protect them from outside influence. They will still be able to go home at the end of the day. She pointed to the allegations in the indictment that accuse Kelly of heading up a criminal enterprise for 24 years designed “to promote the defendant’s music, to recruit women and girls to engage in illegal sexual activity with the defendant and to produce child pornography.” She said she had to take seriously the possibility that “social media will become a tool for the harassment and intimidation of the jurors should their identities be made public.” Prosecutors, who had requested an anonymous, partially sequestered jury, argued that he and his cronies have a long history of trying to obstruct justice. During his 2008 child pornography trial in Chicago, which ended in an acquittal, Brooklyn federal prosecutors said in court papers that he personally played a role in trying to influence the jury.

The company said the selected “Personal Browser” will spend two weeks performing online activities such as hunting for memes, watching cute baby animal videos and researching unusual topics while livestreaming the experience on Opera’s social media channels. “This might seem like a joke — but it really isn’t. We are indeed hiring a person to just surf the web and actually get paid for it. “Baby Shark Dance” has officially become the most viewed video in YouTube history, Guinness World Records announced. Guinness said “Baby Shark Dance,” by Pinkfong, took records for the most viewed music video on YouTube and the most viewed video on YouTube overall. The video, which amassed 7,042,967,886 views between its original posting on June 17, 2016, and Nov. 2, 2020, took the record from Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito,” which was the first video to receive 5 billion views on YouTube. Horse Rescued From Septic Tank
Firefighters in Florida responded to a property to rescue a horse that fell into a septic tank and nearly was submerged in sewage. Marion County Fire Rescue said crews were dispatched to the property in Belleview after a horse named Buddy Bear plunged into the open septic tank and was unable to climb back out. The agency’s Special Operations HAZMAT Heavy Rescue 1 and Technical Rescue Team Heavy Rescue 2 arrived on the scene and used a fire house to fashion a harness around the 40-year-old horse. The firefighters then were able to pull the horse back to solid ground. A veterinarian was summoned to the scene to examine Buddy Bear once he taken out of the tank.

Dad Builds Pirate Ship
A New York state father took what has become a family tradition to a new level when he built a 50-foot-long pirate ship in his front yard for Halloween. Tony DeMatteo said one of his three children initially requested a Pirates of the Caribbean themed Halloween a few years ago, leading him to build a small pirate ship in front of the house in Churchville, outside Rochester. DeMatteo said he has since been building ships every year for Halloween, and this year’s is the biggest yet at 50 feet long and 20 feet tall. “I’m a big fan of Halloween,” DeMatteo told FOX TV Stations. “It’s been growing bigger and bigger each year. I always try to outdo myself.” DeMatteo said this year’s ship cost about $3,000 to build and took about a week to assemble. It features a skeleton hanging from the bowsprit, six light-up cannons, a fog machine and fire blasters.

How To Ask For A Raise During The Pandemic

DO get the timing right.
Use the company’s financial health as a guide for timing your request. Is your organization is undergoing layoffs and reporting record losses during the coronavirus pandemic? Not the best time.
“Do not have this conversation if you are also every day not certain if you have a job tomorrow,” said Katie Donovan, founder of consulting firm Equal Pay Negotiations. “That would be the wrong time to have it. If you think your company is about to do another round of layoffs, do not have this conversation now.”
DO consider how your responsibilities have changed since COVID-19 hit.
But if your company has downsized, that doesn’t necessarily mean there is no additional money for you. If you’re a survivor of layoffs, that can also be an indication of the business value you hold for your company.
“Particularly during the pandemic, if you have taken on additional roles, if you have taken on additional responsibilities, if you’re more on call,” then that’s an opportunity to have the salary conversation, said Ramona Ortega, founder of personal finance platform My Money My Future.
“If you’ve taken on a lot of work from other employees that have been laid off, and you’re still not getting compensated for that, that’s absolutely a time [to ask],” Ortega said.
If you’ve been managing the work of multiple people for a while, your request could be framed like, “‘Jeff used to do inventory. Now I take on inventory. It wasn’t part of my original job description,’” she added. “Those are things you want to point out.”
When asking for a raise, you should also consider how easily you could get another job, and how in-demand your job is right now, Ortega said. “You’re always comparing yourself in some ways to the market. Yes, the market is tight right now, but not for every job.”
DON’T make the request about the pandemic.
Of course, some traditional raise advice still applies, whether there’s a pandemic or not. When you ask, build your case around your job performance and business value ― don’t make it a personal plea.
Even if coronavirus-related financial burdens and caregiving obligations are the reason you want the raise, it is unlikely to move your employer to give you more money.
“At the end of the day, that company is looking to get the best worker essentially for the lowest price. That’s the business model most everyone has. But if you’re a great worker, they’re willing to pay you a price that’s fair,” Ortega said.
When you are preparing data that justifies a salary boost, go back to the beginning of the pandemic as a starting point, career coach Melanie L. Denny said.
“Did you play a part in the company pivot? How did your actions benefit the company?” she said you should ask yourself. “More specific to the pandemic, how did you enable the organization to continue to thrive through saving money, restructuring systems, capturing new markets or salvaging client accounts? Tell those stories with metrics around the results.“
When you’re listing these accomplishments, the impact of your work is more important than the step-by-step processes of what you did, Donovan said. She offered this example of a good pitch: “I saved that client that was about to leave because they were mad they’re not being responded to as quickly, because we’re down 20 people.”
DO look to the future.
Even if you’re told there’s no raise right now, you should still have the discussion so that your request is on your manager’s radar for next year’s budget. While some companies have already set their budgets for January, “If your company is a July 1st budget or even a March 1st budget, now is absolutely the perfect the time because your boss is working on the budget,” Donovan said.
That “no” may also give you clues about your long-term future at the company. The real question may become, “Is this the right place where I can be working to get paid appropriately for my job?” Donovan said. “You cannot regain the months and years of underpayment. You have to go elsewhere at some point in time.”
