Jeff Bridges Fighting Cancer

Actor Jeff Bridges announced on social media Monday that he is battling cancer.  “As the Dude would say.. New S**T has come to light,” Bridges tweeted, referring to the iconic character he played in the 1998 comedy film, The Big Lebowski.  “I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma,” he added. “Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good. I’m starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery.  “I’m profoundly grateful for the love and support from my family and friends,” he concluded. “Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. And, while I have you, please remember to go vote. Because we are all in this together.”

Prince Philip Not Happy With Meghan

One royal expert is claiming Prince Philip is “very, very disappointed” by Meghan Markle’s failure to “support the monarchy” as a member of the British royal family.  According to royal biographer Ingrid Seward, the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, gave up his naval career to support Queen Elizabeth II when she ascended the throne in 1952 and was allegedly “irritated” when the Duchess didn’t do the same with her career for his grandson Prince Harry. Seward, the editor in chief of Majesty magazine, has been covering the royals since the ‘80s and has written over 20 books on the subject. He just released a new book on the duke titled “Prince Philip Revealed.”  “I think he’s very, very disappointed because I think he feels he gave up his naval career in order to stand by the Queen and help the monarchy,” Seward explained to Sky News on Wednesday, as reported by U.K.’s DailyMail. “And why can’t Meghan just give up her acting career, support her husband and support the monarchy? As he used to say to [Princess] Diana, this is not a popularity contest, this is all of us working together.”  “He just cannot understand why she couldn’t support Harry and help him rather than wanting to have her voice,” Seward added.  Seward alleged that Philip didn’t want to be a part of the talks about the Sussexes’ future outside of the monarchy, which famously occurred at Sandringham in January.
********Uh…. because she’s a Hollywood hustler?? Could that be the reason??
******Phillip is also disappointed that he hasn’t had a bowel movement in six weeks!!

The Crown Finds New Prince Charles

The Crown” has found its Prince CharlesDominic West is best known for “The Wire” and for Showtime’s “The Affair” — not to mention, his recent real-life alleged affair with Lily James, 31, and his bizarre headline-grabbing response to it alongside his wife Catherine FitzGerald.  In the ultimate irony considering his recent alleged behavior, West will play Prince Charles as the series depicts the royal’s own infidelity and its impact on his tumultuous relationship with Princess Diana, who will be played by newcomer Emma Corrin, 24, in the show’s upcoming fourth season.  West will reportedly join the show for its fifth and sixth seasons, and the show is set to conclude with Season 6.  Season 4 of “The Crown” premieres Nov. 15 on Netflix.

Happy Days Reunion – Minus Scott Baio

Much of the cast of Happy Days, which was set in Milwaukee, is getting back together for a virtual reunion on behalf of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin — with one notable exception.  Scott Baio, an outspoken Donald Trump supporter, will likely not be throwing in his talents as Chachi for the reunion of the show that ran from 1974 to 1984.  Instead, actor John Stamos, has offered to play the role of Fonzie’s beloved cousin, with Twitter’s approval. The sitcom star in his own right — as hunky Uncle Jesse in “Full House” — threw in his hat late Monday after the reunion announcement.  Baio clapped back with his own snarky response: “Shouldn’t you be taking care of Aunt Becky?,” he tweeted in an apparent reference to former “Full House” co-star Lori Loughlin’s legal fallout from the ongoing college admissions scandal.  “Happy Days” is getting political.
********Everything is political now!!
*******Every election, we ask ourselves: “Who is the Fonz voting for???”

*****Maybe the “Dukes of Hazzard” can get together for Trump!!!

Eddie Van Halen Guitars Up For Auction

On Dec. 4 and 5th a pair of the six-string custom-made Eddie Van Halen guitars hit the block at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills. Only for the most amped-up of fans, the guitars carry estimates of $40,000 to $80,000.   Eddie, who passed away Oct. 6th, was famous for customizing his own guitars. Each of the instruments up for auction come augmented with special goodies: The 2004 Charvel Art Series electric guitar is packaged with photos that show Van Halen personally applying his iconic crisscrossing graphics.  “He did it with tape,” Darren Julien, president and CEO of the auction house, told The Post. “It’s like pin-striping on a car.”  It also comes with an added layer of authenticity: a cigarette burn from a night in 2004 when he played the guitar in San Antonio, Texas. “There is a burn on the fret board where he had his Camel tucked under the strings,” Julien said.  The other one was a gift to the late Bryan Cush, owner of the Centenary Oyster House in Shreveport, Louisiana, the town where Eddie met first wife Valerie Bertinelli backstage after a show in 1980.
********This auction strikes the right chord!!

Fleetwood Mac Back On The Charts

Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 hit album “Rumours” has returned to Top 10 chart this week thanks to a viral TikTok trend.  The album gained renewed attention earlier this month, after the track “Dreams” kicked off a viral trend following the posting of a video of a user skateboarding down a road while casually sipping from a bottle of Ocean Spray cran-rasberry juice and lip-syncing to the Stevie Nicks lyrics.  Billboard reports that the song hit No. 7, jumping from 13 last week. The outlet reports that “Rumours” earned 33,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 15, a 15% increase according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The album previously spent 31 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in the 1977-1978 year. The album remains the only No. 1 single the band has on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart out of 25 chart-making hits.  Fleetwood Mac responded to a re-post of the viral video on Twitter, simply tweeting “We love this!” from the band’s official account. The original TikTok video — starring Idaho Falls, Idaho, resident Nathan Apodaca — has earned more than 18 million views, while the Twitter post has garnered 22.5 million.
********Stevie Nicks did her own video, and she’s lacing up roller skates… but she never skates!! She doesn’t want to break a hip!

Zeppelin’s In Legal Heaven-(Globe)

Led Zeppelin’s rockers are feeling like they’re in paradise after winning a long lawsuit claiming they stole the beginning of their monster 1971 hit “Stairway to Heaven.” The Supreme Court refused to hear the case, meaning the decision in their favor by a lower tribunal stands. The band was accused of stealing the guitar opening for the tune from the song “Taurus” by the late Randy Wolfe of the band Spirit. But, the lawyer for Wolfe’s estate grumbles the band won on a legal “technicality” and Zeppelin rockers are “the biggest art thieves of all time.”

Emilio & Katie: Getting Serious-(Us Weekly)

Katie Holmes and Emilio Vitolo Jr. are showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The pair are “like young teens in love when they’re together,” a source says. And it shows! Since making their debut as a couple in early September, the duo hasn’t been shy about packing on the PDA all across the Big Apple. Vitolo Jr., 33, “lights up” around Holmes, says the source. “Whenever he’s asked about her, he blushes and smiles.” The chef’s loved ones have also given the actress, 41, their stamps of approval. “Emilio’s friends think she’s so great for him,” adds the source, noting that his father, Emilio Vitolo Sr., is also a fan. When they met “he seemed very happy with her.”

Derek’s Mad At Mariah!-(Star)

She had nothing but nice things to say about him! In her new memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the diva goes into detail about her brief relationship with baseball great Derek Jeter in the late 1990s. In the book, she recalls everything from a “warm, slow, intoxicating kiss” to the “smooth texture of his honey-dropped skin,” calling their relationship “so sensual.” More seriously, she also credits him with helping her see the value of her biracial background. Even so, a source says the guy who inspired the songs “My All,” “The Roof” and “Honey” is not pleased with the flattery. “Derek’s fed up and saying enough is enough,” explains the insider. “He feels Mariah is taking advantage of him to publicize her book.” It doesn’t help that the 46-year-old’s pals have been teasing him about the sexy details. “He hates being made fun of,” says the pal. “His ego can’t handle his friends ribbing him.”

Justin: Looking For Love Online-(Life & Style)

Dating during the pandemic isn’t easy, just ask Justin Theroux. A source says the Leftovers star, 49, is using apps like Zoom to go on virtual first dates amid social distancing measures. “Like lots of other singles, Justin has given online dating a try,” reports the source. “His friends convinced him that it’s the way of the future, and now that he’s got a lot more time on his hands, he figured it couldn’t hurt.” After all, it’s been nearly three years since he split from Jennifer Aniston! Although a rep for the actor denies that he’s done any swiping, “Justin’s ready to settle down,” insists the source, “and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to meet that special someone.”

“It’s nice to know I’m not missing out on any fun.”-America Ferrera, on welcoming a newborn during the pandemic.

“I went to the office in London. Rob Reiner looked at me and said, ‘He’s not a giant.’”-Liam Neeson, on his audition for The Princess Bride.

Brody Causes Brouhaha On Hills-(In Touch)

Apparently the ladies aren’t the only divas in the Kardashian-Jenner family. Brody Jenner’s return to The Hills hit a major snag recently because of his demands. “Producers were thinking of shooting in remote locations outside of Southern California because of COVID-19, but Brody refused and insisted that filming

stay in LA,” a source says. “Brody is making the reboot all about himself!” But in the end, the higher-ups gave Brody, 37, what he wanted. “After much back and forth, they decided Brody was right-or rather, they realized they need him on the show. His diva tantrum worked.”

Woman Has Her Cat Cloned

An Iowa woman said her kitten bears a strong resemblance to her old cat for a very good reason — he’s a clone.  The Cedar Rapids woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she decided before the death of her cat, Mr. Tufts, that she wanted to have the feline cloned. “I had never had such a wonderful creature. It was harder losing him than any other cat I’ve ever had,” the woman told The Courier newspaper.  Living tissue samples were collected by Dr. Kevin Christman of Cedar Valley Veterinary Center in Cedar Falls and sent along to ViaGen Pets in Cedar Park, Texas.  ViaGen Pets specializes in genetic preservation and cloning for household pets. The firm has cloned dogs, cats and horses in the past and recently made headlines for cloning an endangered Przewalski’s horse for San Diego Zoo.  ViaGen preserved the samples until after Mr. Tufts’ death, when his owner requested the cloning go forward.

102 Year-Old Skydiver

A Maryland woman fulfilled a longtime dream by going skydiving for the first time in her life at the age of 102.  Vivian “Millie” Bailey, 102, a World War II veteran being featured on the American Heroes Channel’s Honor Flight Heroes, was asked by producers if there was a bucket list item she had never crossed off.   Bailey’s answer was that she had been thinking for a long time about skydiving. She said she was inspired by President George H.W. Bush going skydiving when he was 90 years old. “I was inspired by the fact that he did it,” Bailey told WJLA-TV. “The fact that a person at that age could do the jump.”  Bailey said skydiving was previously only a dream, as she couldn’t afford the $300 cost for a tandem jump, but the producers picked up the tab to feature footage on her episode.  “You couldn’t ask for a more thrill-packed ending to the episode,” Honor Flight Heroes executive producer Eric J. Roberts said. “Millie would be the first 102-year-old person on Mars if it could be arranged.”  Bailey said after her jump that it was exhilarating.  See the video HERE.

Reward For Missing Lemur

The San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is offering a reward to anyone who help police locate its missing lemur.  Tips and any other information provided to the San Francisco Police Department that lead to the safe recovery of the zoo’s 21-year-old lemur, Maki, will be rewarded $2,100 – which is an amount that was purposely picked to represent $100 for every year Maki has been alive.  The SFPD can be contacted through its 24 Hour Tip Line at 415-575-4444 or through its “Text a Tip” system at TIP411. All text messages should start with SFPD before writing specific details.  “We are extremely concerned about Maki’s welfare,” said Tanya M. Peterson, the CEO and executive director at the San Francisco Zoological Society, in a press release.

8 Tricks Sleep Experts Use When 2020 Anxiety Keeps Them Awake

Huffington Post

First, recognize that interrupted sleep is a normal response to 2020.

Sarah Silverman, a sleep psychologist in Tampa, Florida, said it helps to remember that waking up during the night is a normal response to stress. So it makes sense that many of us are probably sleeping less than usual.

Acknowledge that this is the problem, Silverman said, instead of immediately getting frustrated. Reminding herself that this is a common problem right now eases her anxiety a bit so it doesn’t add to the stress already waking her up.

Make your bedroom a location for sleep only ― not a place where you work, exercise or check news.

People are spending a lot more time either in the bedroom or someplace near it. We’re using our sleep space as a home office, gym or gathering area ― and that can have unintended effects on our brains.

Even if you aren’t bringing your laptop into bed, it can be very stimulating to have your desk in the bedroom, because your desk is where you work, socialize and scarf down a quick lunch, said Kimberly Truong, the founder of California-based Earlybird Health and a board-certified sleep physician.

“We might also be having important financial conversations with our spouses in bed, because our kids are doing online school in the next room,” Wu added, or we might be doomscrolling in bed more frequently.

What your mind once considered a resting place now becomes associated with negative news and wakeful activities such as being productive, creative and hardworking. If you can, try to do other activities outside your bedroom and keep your bedroom designated for rest.

Wake up at the same time each day and only crawl into bed at night when you’re ready to go to sleep.

Silverman, Truong and Wu all wake up at the same time each morning to set their bodies up to be sleepy at night. On some days you may take longer to feel sleepy, Wu said, but this is normal, particularly if you didn’t do much activity during the day.

“I always keep in the back of my mind that eventually my sleep system is going to kick in and allow me to sleep,” said Silverman.

Instead of tossing and turning because you aren’t ready to sleep at your usual 10 p.m. bedtime, she recommended climbing into bed only when you feel like your body is really ready to fall asleep.

Move your body a little bit each day in a way that feels good (bonus points if you do this outside).

During the day, Silverman, Wu and Truong said they prepare for sleep by spending time in the sunlight and being physically active.

“We release endorphins when we exercise and this boosts our mood, which helps us become more able to weather the stressors we encounter, and that makes us better able to sleep,” Wu said, noting that moving your body also builds up your sleep drive, as your brain will want to rest after an active day.

Exposing your body to as much sunlight as possible is also important, Wu said. The amount of light exposure you get during the day preps your brain for sleep when it gets dark. In the shorter, colder days of fall and winter, it can be more difficult to get sunlight, but even a short walk when the sun is out or sitting in the backyard can be helpful. And if sunlight is really scant, Truong suggested trying light box therapy in the morning to ensure your internal body clock stays healthy.

Keep to a routine of regular meals.

Truong noted that having three to four meals at set times during the day can help with getting proper rest.

This is mostly because eating regular meals keeps our circadian rhythm synchronized to the passage of the day. Your brain knows when it’s morning, afternoon and night based on what meals you’re eating. When meal patterns become haphazard, it can lessen the distinction between day (or wakeful hours) and night (or sleeping hours).

Figure out the difference between your body being sleepy and your body being tired.

“The causes of sleepiness look very different from the causes of feeling tired,” Silverman said. For instance, your body might feel tired during the day due to mental fatigue from the barrage of negative information. But according to Silverman, this does not necessarily translate into being able to fall asleep. And trying to sleep could backfire.

“If you try to force yourself to sleep when you’re tired but not sleepy, you’ll end up fighting against your own body and getting more stressed out,” Wu said.

Learning to differentiate between tiredness and sleepiness helps you give your body what it needs. “When you’re tired, you feel exhausted or depleted, and the cure for that is rest,” Wu said. This could be taking a shower, going for a walk, doing breathing exercises or enjoying a TV show or book.

“When you’re sleepy, your eyes are rolling and hard to keep open, your head is nodding, you can’t concentrate, and the cure for that is to sleep,” Wu said.

If it is already nighttime, then start your nighttime sleep. If you’re incredibly sleepy during the day, Wu is a believer in taking a 30-minute catnap, as long as you don’t start using these naps to catch up on lost nighttime sleep. “If you’re having a lot of frequent nighttime trouble, I would cut out the naps,” she said.

Get out of bed if you start to have anxious thoughts.

“As we carry on with our day, there’s a lot on our plates and we’re always on the go. It’s not usually until nighttime [that] things quiet down and you’re left with yourself and your thoughts,” Truong noted. “Having very stimulating thoughts or high anxiety thoughts leads to a stress response, such as increased heart rate and sweaty palms, that makes it difficult for one to fall asleep.”

If you’re lying in bed when this happens, it’s easy for the bed to become associated with anxiety and stress. To break this pattern, Silverman said, “It’s better to physically get out of bed and ideally go to another room to have this thought process take place somewhere else.”

Truong suggested journaling to capture the anxious thoughts you’ve had throughout the day before you carry them with you into the bedroom. For 30 to 40 minutes after dinner, she free-writes, jotting down any thoughts that come to mind without any judgment.

Engage in mindless activities, like folding clothes or doing dishes, before you go to sleep.

Experiment with cutting out scrolling through messages and news feeds at night, Wu said ― especially if you’ve noticed you feel tense and start worrying when your head hits the pillow.

Having a consistent evening routine of enjoyable but mindless activities in the couple of hours before bedtime can support sleep.

Wu likes to prepare her baby’s clothes and bottles for the next day. “Doing something rote that requires me to use my hands, such as folding clothes or preparing baby bottles, is almost mesmerizing and meditative for me,” she said.

She also finds that she falls asleep within 20 minutes of starting to listen to an audiobook that she has already heard before or that isn’t otherwise difficult to put down.

Meditation and relaxation techniques are another sleep aid. Truong suggested doing gentle stretches or body scanning, which involves mentally checking in with your body from head to toe, one area at a time, while breathing in and out.

Visualization meditation, which has a number of variations, can also help. You might visualize yourself in a place that evokes feelings of joy or peace while engaging in deep breathing or picture an image that assists you in letting go of anxious thoughts. Truong gave an example of picturing each anxious thought, one at a time, falling on a leaf floating down a river, and the river taking it away.
