Loretta Lynn Dies

Country music star Loretta Lynn has died.  The singer-songwriter, known for such hits as “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “One’s on the Way,” died Tuesday at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. She was 90.  Lynn’s family confirmed the news.  “Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills,” the family said in a statement.  Lynn was born to a working-class family in Butcher Hollow, Ky., in April 1932. She came to fame in the 1960s with such singles as “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl,” “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)” and “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind).” Lynn’s songs celebrated independent women and addressed such topics as cheating, divorce, and birth control. Her work resonated with many women and helped pave the way for future female singer-songwriters.  In addition, Lynn recounted her early life in the autobiographical single “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” released in 1970. She released an autobiography of the same name in 1976, which was adapted as a 1980 film starring Sissy Spacek.

Taco Bell Hires Pete Davidson For New Apology Ad

In a new ad featuring Pete Davidson called “The Apology,” Taco Bell is saying it’s “sorry” for going “too far” for cooking up too many “innovative” breakfast offerings.  In a release, the company said the ad is to “acknowledge it might’ve taken innovation to unwelcomed heights with some of its past breakfast creations (looking at you, Naked Egg Taco and Waffle Taco) … In retrospect, when it came to living más just after getting out of bed, some of these breakfast offerings went, well… a little too far on the Live Más scale. After all, there’s a reason it’s called the morning routine.”  Instead, the chain plans to refocus its efforts on its more conventional breakfast items. In the 30-second ad, Davidson says, “Sometimes we go too far, I have, and that’s why Taco Bell has hired me to make an apology for them.”  With the title “Taco Bell Brand Apologist,” Davidson said the company “got too caught up with today’s hustle and forgot people like to ease into their morning with tasty, simple food. Here to stay are delicious burritos and Crunch-things or Crunchwraps or whatever they’re called.”  In another ad, ‘The Bell Breakfast,’ Davidson dreams of “the most amazing breakfast” before waking up inside of a Taco Bell.

Meghan Markle Obsessed Over Kate Middleton Riff

A new book is providing insight into the alleged drama between Princess of Wales Kate Middleton and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle.  New excerpts from royal insider Valentine Low’s new book “Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown,” claim that Markle became “obsessed” with the palace disputing any reports of division between them. In 2018, when Markle was preparing to marry into the royal family, British media ran rampant with the narrative that Markle had made Middleton cry at a dress fitting.  “The truth,” Low writes “is that after the dress fitting, Meghan had become obsessed with trying to persuade the palace press office to put something out denying the story,” according to excerpts.  Low claims that “[The palace] were equally adamant that it would be a serious mistake to start briefing about personal stories relating to differences between members of the Royal Family,” which is why nothing was refuted. It was what Markle took particular issue with – that the media got the story wrong – and no one stepped in to correct it.  Low additionally wrote that the palace did not want to “fan the flames of the story.”  In 2021, after stepping down from their roles as senior royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave an interview to Oprah Winfrey, where Markle disputed the claims she had made her sister-in-law cry, instead claiming that it was Kate who made Meghan cry.

Tom Brady and Gisele Hire Divorce Attorneys

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen have retained divorce lawyers.  They have been living separately for the past couple months following an epic fight — and they’re now apparently looking at dividing up their multimillion-dollar empire.  “I never actually thought this argument would be the end of them, but it looks like it is,” one source in the know tells Page Six.  “I don’t think there will be any coming back now. They both have lawyers and are looking at what a split will entail, who gets what and what the finances will be.”  Insiders close to them say both are very involved in their children’s lives and would share joint custody in any separation.  They share son Benjamin, 12, and daughter Vivian, 9, and Brady is also the father of son Jack, 15, with ex Bridget Moynahan.  The couple would likely file for divorce in Florida, as that’s where they are primarily based, legal experts say. Another source who knows the couple confirm they are looking at dividing their assets, which includes a $26 million property portfolio.

Paris Hilton Hires Pet Psychic For Missing Dog

Paris Hilton is doing everything in her power to track down her missing dog Diamond Baby two weeks after she went missing.  She resorted to the help of not one, but seven pet mediums — each of whom told her that Diamond Baby is still alive.  In a desperate bid to do her part, Hilton is offering a reward of $10,000 for anyone who can help bring her precious chihuahua back home.  Taking to her Instagram Story on Monday, the “Simple Life” alum said she wanted to raise the award to a “much higher” amount, but was warned against it by her security team.  “For those of you asking, I was about to raise the price of the reward to a crazy number, but my security team said not to because that would put my other dogs and myself in danger, as they might become targets for some sick creep that might try and kidnap them for a reward,” she told her 20.5 million followers.  She said she’s spoken to a total of “seven credible pet mediums/communicators” who have all said the dog is “alive” and that “someone has her.”  “At this point, hope is the only thing getting me through,” Hilton added, before urging fans to “please keep an eye out for my little girl.”  “If you know someone who has her, please have a heart and contact me and you will receive the full reward,” she wrote.

Chris Martin Has Serious Lung Infection

Coldplay’s Chris Martin has contracted a “serious lung infection,” forcing the band to cancel their upcoming shows in Brazil.  “With deep regret, we’ve been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo until early 2023,” Coldplay announced Tuesday.  “Due to a serious lung infection, Chris has been put under strict doctor’s orders to rest for the next three weeks. We’re working as fast as possible to lock in the new dates and will follow up with more information in the next few days.”  The band apologized for the inconvenience and appreciated fans’ understanding but said they “need to prioritize Chris’ health” during this “challenging time.”  “We’re optimistic that Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour soon,” Coldplay’s statement concluded.  As of now, only the Brazil shows have been postponed. The band is still expected to perform a 10-show stretch in Buenos Aires, Argentina, beginning on Oct. 25, according to their website.

“Pitch Perfect” actress Brittany Snow’s marriage to “Selling the OC”’s Tyler Stanaland has gone flat after just over two years! In identical Instagram posts they announced: “This decision was made with love and mutual respect for one another. We have realized we need to take some time and make sure we are each living our most fulfilling and authentic lives.” Snow, 36, and Tyler, 33, began dating in 2018.

Candy Covered Highway

Halloween came early to a California highway, when a crash involving two trucks caused one of the vehicles to lose its load of candy in the roadway.  The California Highway Patrol’s Madera office said troopers responded to State Route 99, near Avenue 11, when a big rig and a box truck collided about 8 a.m. Monday.  Photos from the scene show the roadway littered with candy that spilled from one of the involved vehicles. CHP said no injuries were reported from the incident.  See the pics HERE.

Giant Pumpkin

A New York grower broke a national record when his giant pumpkin was officially weighed way more than a ton.  Scott Andrusz of Williamsville, brought his massive pumpkin to the Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence, N.Y., where it tipped the scales at 2,554 pounds.  Andrusz’s pumpkin broke the national record for pumpkin weight, which had been 2,528 pounds.  The pumpkin fell short of the Guinness World Record, 2,702 pounds, which was set by Stefano Cutrupi in Italy in 2021.  Andrusz may soon have competition for the title, as Travis Gienger of Anoka, Minn., has a pumpkin grown from a seed from Cutrupi’s record-breaking gourd.  Gienger’s pumpkin is to be weighed Oct. 10 at the Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in California.

Bear Takes A Dip In The Pool

A bear paid a visit to a California home and was caught on camera feasting on trash and taking a dip in the house’s backyard pool and hot tub.  Alon Antebi of Chatsworth said his fiancee, Mindie Hernandez, captured video of the bear spotted wandering around the couple’s home on Sunday.  Antebi said the bear has been spotted in the neighborhood multiple times since Labor Day.  The video, filmed from inside the house, shows the bear, which the couple nicknamed Baloo, eating trash and pomegranates before making its way to the back yard.  The bear then took a swim in the pool and spent some time in the hot tub before leaving the area.  See the video HERE.

Most Americans Are “Hangry”!

Three-fourths of U.S. adults admit that hunger gets the best of them five times per week, culminating in over 21,000 “hangry” outbursts over the course of their lives – which all adds up to nearly a lifetime of “hanger” management.  A new poll of 2,000 Americans, sponsored by Farm Rich, revealed the most common reasons for people’s hunger-related irritability as mealtime delays (44%), busy work schedule (37%) – a number that rose to 44% amongst millennials – not knowing what to cook (32%) and not having time to grocery shop (29%).  The study, conducted by OnePoll, found that people most commonly experience hanger as feelings of anger, grumpiness, impatience and fatigue. It’s most frequently experienced at home (41%), but people’s crankiness also follows them to work (35%), when they’re shopping (34%), while running errands (33%) and when traveling (33%).

Fast Facts

• Regionally, the Northeast is the “hangriest” of all, with 46% saying they “always” or “often” experience this feeling
• Countrywide, men are less likely to be hangry than women, with 32% saying they have never experienced hanger, as opposed to 20% of women
• Adults with small kids are the hangriest of all — 42% of people with kids ages 0-4 identify as frequently hangry
• A third (33%) of those surveyed say hanger hits them hardest midweek, on Wednesdays

10 Surprising Uses for Windex That Go Beyond Cleaning Glass

1. Moving Large Pieces of Furniture

Los Angeles-based interior designer John Linden uses Windex to slide large items that are stuck or too heavy to move.

“All we need to do is to spritz some in front of the objects we want to move before pushing the item,” Linden says. He’s then able to easily move that piece of furniture to its place.

As long as you use the ammonia-free version of Windex, you can use it on any type of flooring, including wood floors.

 

2. Cleaning Carpets and Upholstered Furniture

You thought Windex only worked on glass? Linden says he’ll often spray Windex onto small stains, leaving it for 20 minutes to soak. Then he wipes right off the furniture.

Make sure to use the clear formula for this, as the blue formula may leave its own stains.

 

3. Insect Repellant

The smell of ammonia is strongly disliked by many insects, says Andrew Barker, founder of Homeowner Costs. As a result, Barker suggests spraying Windex by open windows and doors to keep bugs at bay.

 

4. Clean Your Car

Windex is also a great cleanser for cars, says Deidre Fisher, owner of Simply Bliss Cleaning in Salt Lake City, Utah. Use it on car windows and mirror smudges, on dashboards, the steering wheel and any plastic and leather surface.

It’s also great for cleaning the screens and dials. “I just recommend spraying the cloth first and not the electronics directly,” Fisher says.

 

5. Washing Makeup Brushes

Makeup artist and lifestyle blogger Kerrin Jackson has been using Windex to clean her brushes and airbrush parts for more than a decade.

“They make light work of breaking down the alcohol-based makeups and heavy-duty body makeup products that can sometimes be stubborn and difficult to clean from the inner workings of the airbrush parts,” Jackson says.

 

6. De-greasing Your Kitchen

Use Windex on your exhaust fans and range hoods in your kitchen, suggests Diana Rodriguez-Zaba, president of ServiceMaster Restoration by Zaba, a cleaning company in Chicago.

Rodriguez-Zaba suggests spraying Windex on the surfaces and letting it stand for 5-10 minutes, then wiping it clean and rinsing with water to remove any remaining chemical residue.

 

7. Shine and Clean Doorknobs

The slight amount of ammonia in Windex can disinfect doorknobs, something we are all hyper aware of these days. And it can also clean up smudges and bring some shine to the doorknobs throughout your house.

 

8. Removing Tough Stains From Clothing

It works well for red wine, tomato sauce, ketchup and more, says Jen Stark, founder of Happy DIY Home, a gardening and home improvement blog.

“You can lightly spray the stain with Windex and let it sit for 15 minutes, as long as the clothing item isn’t a delicate silk,” Stark said. “Get a clean cloth and blot at the stain before rinsing it in cold water.”

Follow this by washing the clothing as recommended. Make sure you use clear Windex for this task.

 

9. Cleaning Patio Furniture and Outdoor Surfaces

Benjamin Nguyen, owner of Full Color Cleaners, says he uses Windex to clean his patio furniture, making it look as good as new. It will clean everything from the furniture to outdoor surfaces, including brick.

For this task, go the extra mile and snag the Windex Outdoor Concentrated Cleaner, which is a 32-ounce spray bottle that attaches onto a hose ($27.66). Simply spray onto your aluminum siding, your brick, your windows — and with this tool, you won’t even need a ladder to do it.

 

10. Making Jewelry Sparkle

To get rid of everyday grime from a diamond ring, The Knot recommends soaking it for 10 to 15 minutes in a 50-50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and Windex. After it’s soaked, brush gently with a soft toothbrush and then rinse with water.

Windex is safe for gold and silver but could be harmful to soft gemstones because of its ammonia content. That means don’t use it on turquoise, emeralds, opals, coral, pearls or amber.
