SNL Ratings High

This weekend’s Season 46 premiere of Saturday Night Live on NBC attracted nearly 8 million total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.  The episode was SNL’s most-watched season premiere in four years and second-most-watched in 12 years. Chris Rock guest hosted Saturday’s episode and rapper Megan Thee Stallion provided the musical entertainment.  The show included a parody of last week’s U.S. presidential debate, with Alec Baldwin and Jim Carrey standing in for President Donald Trump and Democratic contender Joe Biden.  Another highlight of the episode was a face mask-themed music video called “Bottom of Your Face.”  This is the first episode of SNL taped at the show’s New York studio since March 7 when production was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
TRIIVIA: During the 2016 campaign, Trump appeared on SNL. Does anyone remember which song he danced to??
*****Alec used a laser pointer to distract Carrey’s “Biden!!” Trump liked it so much, he’s gonna use it in the next debate!!

Tyra Banks Flubs On Dancing With The Stars

Dancing with the Stars” host Tyra Banks suffered a major mishap on Monday night’s show, although she claimed it was the control room’s fault.  During the two-hour live broadcast she incorrectly announced that “Cheer” coach Monica Aldama and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy were safe when in reality they were in the bottom two.  Ultimately, the former “America’s Next Top Model” host apologized for the confusion and doubled down with her apology on social media after the show.  Banks’ mistake came when she announced that contestants Anne Heche and Keo Motsepe, and Vernon Davis and Peta Murgatroyd, were in the bottom two, leaving Chrishell Stause and Gleb Savchenko confused about whether or not they were safe as they remained on stage.  Banks ended up having to call Aldama and Chmerkovskiy back on stage to face elimination.  “There has been an error in the control room. This is the craziness of live TV,” the supermodel said during the confusion. “I’m so sorry. This is live TV.”  Aldama and Chmerkovskiy were ultimately saved from the judges.  Banks later took to Twitter and wrote, “Wowzers. Live TV. Wrong name on cards. So challenging to deal with moments like these. But we power through.”  See video HERE
*******Maybe the staff and crew are trying to set her up!!
********Out of all these names, Anne Heche is the only one we’ve ever heard of!! How about you??
*******Steve Harvey sent her thank-you note for replacing him as “worst host!!”

Rod Stewart and Elton John Are Still Feuding

Rod Stewart claims he’s tried to heal the rift between him and Elton John, only to be snubbed by him.  They had a falling out after Stewart mocked John’s retirement tour and criticized the biopic “Rocketman” about Elton’s life.  Stewart opened up about the feud in a recent interview with Chris Evans, not to be confused with the actor.  “We don’t talk to each other anymore,” the “I Don’t Want to Talk About It” singer said on Evans’ “How To Wow” podcast.  The rocker added: “Big falling out.”  Stewart claimed he emailed John inviting his sons Zachary, 9, and Elijah, 7, to come over to play football along with his sons Alistair, 14, and Aiden, 9, and didn’t get a response.  “Last time I emailed him I said, ‘I’ve got this football pitch, would you like the boys to come up?’ You know, cause they both love football,” he said. “You don’t have to come, but if they want to come play on this they’re welcome.”  Stewart added, “[He] never got back to me.”  He didn’t hold back despite trying to mend his relationship with his once “very close” friend John.  Stewart praised the Freddy Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” but said the “Rocketman” biopic about John didn’t live up to its potential. “It was OK, I just wished it hadn’t been a musical. I mean, the dancing outside the council house made it a bit ‘Mamma Mia,’” he said.
*******Maybe Rod hasn’t noticed: Elton IS “a bit Mama Mia!!”

90210 Stars Address “No Eye Contact” Story

Former “Beverly Hills, 90210” stars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling are addressing Jessica Alba’s claims that she wasn’t allowed to make eye contact with the cast while she filmed with them.  In a teaser for their new podcast, “9021OMG,” they both said they had no recollection of the harsh rule.  “Tori, did you — I just need to know, did you tell her not to look me in the eye?” asked Garth.  “Why’s it all about you?” Spelling asked, laughing.  “Well, because I had all the scenes with her,” Garth, who played Kelly Taylor on the series, said. “Like, if anybody was, you know, didn’t want to have their eyes looked into, it would’ve been me. But I don’t remember, because I have the world’s worst memory.”  Spelling speculated that maybe producers sent around a “cool memo” that mandated the odd request.  “Imagine we just thought like guest stars didn’t like us,” Spelling said. “They never looked at us! We don’t know why! We were so nice!”  Garth remembered Alba being “super talented” on set.

William and Harry’s Feud Started Years Ago

Prince Harry’s feud with older brother William began at least 15 years before Megxit — sparked the night the young prince was snapped wearing a Nazi costume, a new book claims.  The then-20-year-old Duke of Sussex was already being nicknamed “Hash Harry” for his drug use when his photo was plastered on UK papers’ front pages in January 2005, with The Sun headlining it, “Harry the Nazi.”  The backlash sparked a festering feud between the two brothers after William completely escaped critique despite playing a key role in selecting the offensive costume, royal historian Robert Lacey has claimed in a new book, “Battle of Brothers,” being serialized in the Daily Mail.  “Harry chose his costume in conjunction with his elder brother,” Lacey wrote of “the future King William V,” who “laughed all the way back to Highgrove with the younger sibling he was supposed to be mentoring.”  “The young prince began re-evaluating his elder brother’s involvement and the unfairness of William’s subsequent emergence smelling of roses.  “It made Harry feel resentful and even alienated,” Lacey wrote, claiming William was the one who would “coax” Harry into his “errant and self-destructive ways.”  “For the first time, their relationship really suffered and they barely spoke,” one former aide told Lacey.
********Harry must be easily suggestible!! Who would have guessed that?? (Meghan?)
*****They’ll probably patch it up when they’re the same ages as Elton John and Rod Stewart!!
*****Meanwhile, Meghan has plans to eliminate the entire family, so Archie can be king!!

Kim Kardashian Nursed Kanye Back From Covid

Kim Kardashian recalled taking care of her husband, Kanye West, as he battled coronavirus earlier this year.  She revealed he contracted the illness around the same time that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson spoke out about getting the virus in March.  “Kanye had it way at the beginning, when nobody really knew what was going on,” Kardashian told the magazine in its inaugural issue. “It was so scary and unknown.”  She recalled having “my four babies and no one else in the house to help” when he got sick. The couple share North, 7, Saint, 4, Chicago, 2, and Psalm, 16 months.  “I had to go and change his sheets and help him get out of bed when he wasn’t feeling good,” she explained. “It was a challenge because it was so unknown. Changing his sheets with gloves and a face shield was really a scary time.”  Despite going through the fearful time, as she nursed her husband, Kardashian’s thoughts on the pandemic aren’t all negative.  “I’m the type of person that respects the process, that respects what’s going on in the world,” she revealed. “Maybe our planet needed a break.”
*******She has always changed his sheets with gloves and a face shield!! That’s nothing new!!
*****She had no one else to help… if you don’t count the maids, cook and nannies!!!

Blake Lively is fed up with hubby Ryan Reynolds’ juvenile practical jokes, sources say, and she’s ordering him to knock it off!  After years of putting up with ridiculous Ryan’s weird pranks, the 33-year-old “Gossip Girl” star’s nerves have been rubbed raw since COVID lockdown, tattles an insider.  “Ryan thinks it’s hilarious to leave toy snakes and spiders around to scare her, blow into her face before he’s brushed his teeth or switch the salt and sugar shakers,” dishes a spy.  “The more revolted she is, the funnier it is to him!  Years ago, Blake thought it was kind of cute, but eight years of being married to a jokester is all she can take.  Blake thinks it’s very infantile and wants Ryan to quit wasting money on dime-store tricks.  But everyone knows being silly is second nature to Ryan.  He wouldn’t know how to be serious for longer than five seconds if he tried!”

Toy Cat Rescued

A London man putting some old clothes into a donation bin called firefighters to rescue a “cat” that turned out to be a battery-operated toy.  Alan McElligott tweeted photos showing the scene that unfolded after he put some items into the bin and heard a “meow.”  Police and firefighters responded to the scene and agreed that there seemed to be the sounds of a trapped cat — possibly two cats — inside the container.  “One of the police officers suggested we drop food in there in case the cats had been there for a few days. So I went to Sainsburys as I had my car nearby and bought wet cat food,” McElligott told Deadline News.  “The fire brigade eventually turned up and used their heavy tools to open it. Once it was opened there was no sign of the cats so the firefighter looked around and moved some pieces of clothing around and picked up the toy cat,” he said.  The battery-operated stuffed toy, a FurReal Friends cat, made “very convincing meows,” McElligott said.

Woman Can Jump Like A Horse

An Alberta, Canada, teenager whose skills at emulating the movements of a horse — including quadrupedal jumps — went viral online is now being featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not!  “Horse girl” Ava Vogel, 17, of Edmonton, said she started emulating the movements of horses about six years ago, and three years ago she turned her attention to jumping on all fours like an equine.  “I would look at actual videos of horses and I rode horses myself so I figured out how the horse moved and I would transfer that over to the human skeleton to figure out how I could apply that to myself,” Vogel told CBC News.  “It took a lot of training and repetition to be able to build up the proper muscles and a lot of stretching so my wrists were strong enough to handle the impact,” she said.  The teenager has gone viral online for her Instagram videos showing her clearing obstacles more than 3 feet high.  “I jump around and I gallop around on all four legs and try to mimic a horse as best I can,” Vogel said. “Some people think it’s very unique and interesting and they support me and a lot of people think it’s very weird and strange, which I can certainly understand.”  See the video HERE.
*********Normally, saying “You look like a horse” would be an insult!!

  1. Brooklyn is more popular than Anna.

The famous New York City borough of Brooklyn is also a Top 50 baby name for girls, with 4,611 little Brooklyns born in 2018. The name currently ranks at No. 47, seven places higher than Anna, which is No. 54. Last year, 4,145 baby girls were named Anna.

  1. Oaklynn is one of the fastest-rising names for girls.

Speaking of lyn- and lynn-ending names, Oaklynn rose from No. 888 in 2017 to 542 in 2018. Last year, 572 baby girls were named Oaklynn.

  1. Axel is more popular than Edward.

Despite the influence of “Twilight” character names, Edward is not in the Top 100. The name ranks at No. 169 ― below less traditional names like No. 94, Axel, which went to 4,055 newborn boys in 2018. That same year, only 2,268 boys were named Edward.

  1. The SSA has tracked more than 4,000 more names for girls than for boys.

The SSA’s baby names data includes every name given to at least five baby boys or girls in a given year. The 2018 list includes 18,029 girl names and 14,004 boy names ― suggesting that parents are more likely to get creative with their daughters’ names.

  1. Fewer than 100 girls were named Tracy, Gretchen or Justine, respectively, last year.

In 2018, there were 78 newborn baby girls named Tracy, 96 Gretchens and 81 Justines. All three fell out of the Top 1,000 rankings in the first decade of the 2000s.

  1. Genesis is more popular than Lauren.

Genesis is the 57th most popular name for girls, while Lauren is No. 171. In 2018, 4,068 baby girls were named Genesis, and there were only 1,696 newborn Laurens. Genesis was also the fastest-rising name for boys from 2017 to 2018, when it rose 608 spots from No. 1,592 to 984.

  1. Raelynn is more popular than Alexandra.

With 2,599 baby girls named Raelynn in 2018, the name ranks at No. 115. That makes Raelynn more popular than the classic Alexandra, which ranked at No. 125 and went to 2,394 baby girls last year ― as well as former top names like Mary (now No. 126 ― 2,327 in 2018) and Margaret (No. 127 ― 2,312).

  1. Aurora is the top name for girls in Alaska.

The SSA’s breakdowns show that the national top names like Emma, Olivia and Ava tend to dominate on the state level, but there are some outliers. One is Aurora, which ranks at No. 44 nationally but was the most popular name for girls in Alaska last year.

  1. Elsa is one of the fastest-declining names for girls.

Despite the overwhelming success of “Frozen,” Elsa’s baby name boost did not last long. The name peaked in 2014 at No. 286 but has been rapidly declining ever since. Elsa dropped 202 places from 686 in 2017 to 888 in 2018. Perhaps “Frozen 2″ will give it another bump, however.

  1. Angel is more popular than Jason.

Jason peaked at No. 2 in the 1970s, but now it’s down to No. 100, with 3,847 baby Jasons born in 2018. By contrast, Angel ranks at No. 72, with 5,032 boy Angels born last year.

The name Dior entered the Top 1,000 list for the first time in 2018 at No. 792 ― rising 566 places from No. 1,358 in 2017.

  1. Fewer than 200 boys were named Ross, Perry or Bernard last year.

  1. Serenity is more popular than Julia.

Serenity didn’t enter the Top 1,000 until 1997 and has risen over the years to No. 76 in 2018, with 3,517 baby girls named Serenity that year. The older classic, Julia, has fallen to No. 93, with only 2,989 baby Julias born last year.

  1. Craig is one of the fastest-declining names for boys.
