The Rock Reacts To Look-A-Like

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reacted to the recent viral TikTok comparing him to a Morgan County, Ala., sheriff’s lieutenant named Eric Fields.   He took to Twitter on Monday and was his typically charming and humble self. “Oh s–t! Wow,” he wrote. “Guy on the left is way cooler,” he said in reference to Fields.   “Stay safe brother and thank you for your service,” the action star added. “One day we’ll drink @Teremana and I need to hear all your ‘Rock stories’ because I KNOW you got ‘em [face with tears of joy, smiling face with horns, fisted hand and tumbler glass emojis] #ericfields.”  Meanwhile, Fields shared in an interview with Fox affiliate WBRC, “It’s always been a running joke of people saying I resemble the Rock or… Vin Diesel and I just go with it.”  His wife got a kick out of the flattering comparison, too.  “She loves it,” Fields said with a relaxed posture and ear-to-ear grin, just like him.

Mike Richards was fired as the executive producer of “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune“, effective immediately.  In a note to Sony staffers on Tuesday, Suzanne Prete, EVP, Business and Strategy, “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” said:  “I’m writing to let you know that Mike will no longer be serving as EP of Wheel and Jeopardy! effective immediately.  We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulties we have all experienced these last few weeks. Royal Staffers Take Back Bullying Claims

The two Buckingham Palace staffers who accused Meghan Markle of bullying reportedly rescinded their claims.  Royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claimed in the epilogue of their newly updated biography “Finding Freedom” that “upon discovery” of a formal complaint by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s former communications secretary Jason Knauf, “two of the individuals mentioned in the email asked for any allegations made to HR about their experiences with Meghan to be rescinded” (via “Entertainment Tonight”).  Knauf originally reported Markle’s alleged bullying in October 2018 “in an effort to protect staffers,” according to a Times report published in March — just days before Harry and Markle’s bombshell tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.  “I am very concerned that the Duchess was able to bully two PAs out of the household in the past year. The treatment of X was totally unacceptable,” read the HR complaint, which redacted the employees’ names.

Old Michael Jordan Boxers For Sale

A pair of NBA legend Michael Jordan’s undies are going up for sale by Leland’s auctioneers.  An auction insider says that the shorts were “regularly” worn by Jordan and show signs of “heavy use.”   What exactly does that mean? You’re going to have to find out yourself. Their number is (732) 290-8000.  The blurb also says that this item is “about as close to greatness as one can get,” which seems fair enough but only if what you mean by “greatness” is MJ’s sweaty Chicago Bulls.  The reserve price is $500.  The shorts are part of a sale of Jordan’s belongings that ended up in the hands of his one-time bodyguard, John Michael Wozniak (who was memorably seen beating Jordan in a game of coin-toss in the Bulls doc, “The Last Dance”). Other items in the sale include coats, suits, ties and golf clubs that once belonged to him.

Facebook Post Leads To Lottery Win

An Australian woman who won a $3.5 million lottery jackpot said she only checked her ticket after seeing a Facebook post about the unclaimed prize.  The Bargo, New South Wales, woman told The Lott officials that she bought a ticket for the Set for Life drawing from Bargo Newsagency, but she didn’t check the results after the drawing until she was tipped off by social media.  “I had absolutely no idea. I had seen on the Bargo Community Facebook Page that someone had won division one in Set for Life, but they couldn’t find the winner,” the woman recalled.  “Everyone was going absolutely wild, and so I thought I’d better head down to the news agency to check my tickets too,” she said. “I scanned my ticket and next thing I know they’re telling me I scored division one in Set for Life.”  The woman scored the drawing’s $3.5 million top prize.  “I don’t really remember what happened next. My mind went blank from the shock. My legs went all jiggly; I had to hold myself up,” she said.

100 Year Olds To Get 100 Bottles Of Wine

A Swiss canton is rewarding its long-lived residents by offering 100 bottles of wine to those who reach age 100.  Fribourg state bailiff Claude Freiburghaus said preparations are currently underway to present a resident named Marie-Antoinette with a bouquet of flowers and an offer for 100 bottles of wine when she turns 100 on Nov. 5.  Freiburghaus said the canton first came up with the scheme in 2000 and formerly offered a free armchair as a substitute for the wine, but the chair was discontinued in 2015 due to a lack of interest from local centenarians.  He said the current program offers a charitable donation or a voucher for use at a local merchant or craftsman to residents who decline the wine offer, but most 100-year-olds opt for the alcoholic beverage.

Flying Cows!

Cows with injuries or pregnancies preventing them from making their annual trip through the Swiss Alps received some help in the form of helicopter rides.  Farmers in the Urnerboden area said the 1,000-strong herd is due to descend the Klaunespass mountain pass in their annual Bovine Parade, but some cows were too injured or pregnant to make the trip.  About 10 cows unable to take the long walk were lifted from the mountains via helicopter.  Farmers said the cows did not seem fazed by their helicopter rides once back on the ground.  See the video HERE.

Florida Woman Sabotages Computer On The Way Out

A Florida woman deleted thousands of company records and wrote profanities in her employer’s computer system after she was fired from her position as head of human resources.  Medghyne Calonge was found guilty of one count of intentionally causing damage to a protected computer, one count of accessing a protected computer and recklessly causing damage, prosecutors said.  Calonge worked in St. Petersburg, Florida, for a Manhattan-based company, which was not named. She was fired for failing to meet the minimum requirements for the job she was hired for. In one instance, she downgraded an employee’s access to a computer system after an argument.  After she was fired, but before she was escorted from the building, two employees saw her repeatedly hit the delete key on her computer.  Calonge later logged into the computer system and for two days “rampaged” the system, deleting 17,000 job applications and resumes, and leaving profane messages written in the system.  Prosecutors said the company spent two years and $100,000 creating the computer system Calonge wiped. The company spent another $100,000 investigating and rebuilding it. The company never fully recovered the data.

4 Parts Of Your Body You Shouldn’t Forget To Exercise

Huffington Post

Your Brain

We tend to think of our minds as separate from the rest of our physical health but they serve a vital function, and the brain benefits from training just as much as anything else.

Brain function is known to decline over time, but there are ways to reduce the risk of this happening, explained Rana Mafee, a neurologist in Westchester, Illinois. Though genetics do play a part in cognitive function, Mafee said it’s “environmental factors such as diet, sleep habits or chronic stress that slowly grind away at your brain, making you less sharp over the years.”

The good news is ― much like the way consistent physical exercise can improve our longevity ― exercising the brain on a regular basis can enhance cognition and have lifelong benefits. The idea is to use exercise to strengthen the longevity of neuroplasticity, which, in short, is the brain’s ability to adapt and master new skills, as well as store memories and information.

“A lack of mental exercise will gradually reduce the efficacy of the brain’s neurotransmitters, making it harder to concentrate, make and keep lasting memories or even perform everyday tasks,” Mafee said.

Adults should focus on keeping their brains active. We can do this in a variety of new ways, from learning a new language to navigating a new city. The key is to challenge our minds. We can also try picking up another hobby, like learning to play the piano or a new sport. Mindfulness meditation has been shown to help with this as well.

“In addition to healing and repairing cognitive decline, regular brain exercise can improve mental sharpness, improve your mood and your overall quality of life,” Mafee said.

Your Lungs

Keeping our lungs in good health should be a priority since they transport oxygen from the air we breathe into the blood, according to Alberto L. Rozo, a pulmonary medicine specialist at Northwell Health in New York City.

Exercise is needed for the lungs to function at peak performance and since “lung function declines gradually every year starting at age 35,” Rozo said, it’s important to incorporate habits that help increase our lung capacity.

This includes daily aerobic workouts and doing breath work like diaphragmatic breathing. Lie down on your back, placing one hand on your stomach over your belly button and one on your chest. Inhale through your nose for two seconds, feeling the air go into your abdomen and your stomach pushing out. Then breathe out for two seconds through pursed lips, allowing your stomach to deflate. Repeat several times.

Your Wrists

“It is important to exercise the muscles that control wrist function in order to optimize strength and joint stability,” said Joseph A Gil, an orthopedic surgeon in Rhode Island.

Paying attention to the wrists is especially important for anyone who does sports or exercises on a regular basis. A dedicated warmup that stretches the wrists and forearms could help prevent overuse or injury by “preparing the muscles and tendons to overcome the cumulative stress” that exercise might put on them, Gil said.

Stretching the forearm muscles with “wrist extension and flexion” is one of Gil’s favored techniques for warming up the wrists before working out.

Do this by lying your forearm flat on a table, allowing your hand and wrist to dangle off the edge. Bend your wrist down slowly, then bring it back up. Repeat several times, then move on to the other side. You can also do this with a small, light weight.

He noted that you might want to consult with a trainer to work on wrist range of motion before weightlifting, which “places high stresses on the tendons and ligaments around the wrist,” or yoga, “which requires extreme wrist position that predispose participants to ligament injuries.”

Your Toes

The five bones located just behind the toes, called the metatarsals, bear a great deal of our body weight and need special attention to remain in proper working order. According to Bruce Pinker, a foot and ankle surgeon in New York, there is somewhat of a “springlike quality to the metatarsal region, which helps to create the arch of the foot.” That flexibility requires maintenance to ward off injury and exhaustion.

Pinker said that by neglecting regular foot stretching, “you risk the chance of your feet tightening up or contracting, which can lead to pain.” And since many people experience some level of stiffness in their feet when they first wake up, Pinker also feels “it is important to stretch or exercise the tops of the feet upon awakening.”

To do this, take a page out of a dancer’s playbook: Kelby Brown, a dance and fitness coach in New York City, suggested trying point and flex foot progressions to strengthen and create flexibility in your toes and ankles. Start by sitting with your back against a wall and extend your arms at your side, “with the tip of the middle finger lightly pressed into the ground,” he said.

Then, brace your core and tightly hold your legs together. Point your toes from this point and count to four. Then flex your feet and count to four. Do this a few times. While in the stretched position, your feet should “resemble a cashew or banana,” Brown said.

According to Melissa Wood-Tepperberg, a certified yoga and Pilates instructor, you can also multitask and maximize foot flexibility with a standing quad stretch. Though this move is primarily designed to stretch the front of the legs, “you can bring the attention to your foot by using your palm to pull toes in to stretch the top of your foot,” she said.

“Shift all of your weight onto your standing foot and grab the opposite foot with the coinciding hand,” she explained. Holding a table or stable surface can help with your balance. Then, put your palm on your ankle. Flex your foot, then point your toes. After pointing and releasing the toes about 10-20 times, repeat on the other side.
