Does Mariah Carey Have A Secret 90’s Album

Back in the 1990s when Mariah Carey was ruling the charts she recorded a secret alt-rock album.  Now, she plans to release the 1995 LP, which had been buried by her label. But she has unearthed her version of “Someone’s Ugly Daughter,” which originally featured her lead vocals before they were replaced by her friend Clarissa Dane in the band Chick. “We actually have it,” Carey revealed in a Rolling Stone podcast interview with Brian Hiatt. “I’m working on a version where there will be another artist working with me.”  Although Carey produced, wrote and sang backup vocals on “Someone’s Ugly Daughter,” which came out the same year that she released her blockbuster “Daydream” album, her involvement was kept secret by her then-label, Columbia Records.  “This was my outlet, and nobody knew about it,” Carey said. “I honestly wanted to put the record out back then … and let them discover that it was me, but that idea was squashed.” Carey described the song “like a girls’ Green Day group moment. And, of course, there was the Courtney Love era of Hole going on at the time. I even did the artwork — it was a dead roach and some lipstick.”

Adam Levine Denies Having An Affair

Adam Levine says he “crossed the line” by sending “inappropriate” messages to a woman outside his marriage but did not have an affair.  He denied cheating on his wife, model Behati Prinsloo, in a post Tuesday on Instagram Stories after Instagram model Sumner Stroh said they had a year-long affair.  “A lot is being said about me right now and I want to clear the air. I used poor judgment in speaking with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirtatious manner. I did not have an affair, nevertheless, I crossed the line during a regrettable period of my life,” Levine wrote. “In certain instances it became inappropriate; I have addressed that and taken proactive steps to remedy this with my family.”  “My wife and my family is all I care about in this world,” he said. “To be this naive and stupid enough to risk the only thing that truly matters to me was the greatest mistake I could ever make. I will never make it again. I take full responsibility. We will get through it. And we will get through it together.” Stroh made the allegations in a TikTok video Monday.  “Essentially, I was having an affair with a man who’s married to a Victoria’s Secret model,” she said. “At the time, I was young, I was naive and quite frankly I feel exploited. I wasn’t in the scene like I am now, so I was definitely easily manipulated.”  Stroh shared screenshots of purported Instagram messages from Levine and said they were “seeing each other for about a year” before they stopped talking “over a period of months.” She said Levine then came back into her life by sending her a message in June.

Meghan Markle Requests To Meet With The King

Meghan Markle requested a one-on-one meeting with King Charles III to “clear the air” before she and Prince Harry left the UK, according to a royal reporter. “She’d now like, before they return back to California, to have a one-to-one audience with King Charles III,” Neil Sean said in a YouTube video (via Sky News).  “That’s right, Meghan one-to-one with King Charles III. You heard correct.”  Sean claimed his source told him that she made the request in a “formal letter,” and that the meeting would serve as “an opportunity to clear the air, put the rights from wrongs and explain some of the rationale behind what they’ve been doing over the last two years.”  Sean added, “Now you have to admire Meghan’s self belief, whatever you think.”  Sean admitted that he had “no idea” if the meeting was going to go forward, but doubled down on his assessment that she was “very brave.”

Kanye West Claims He’s Never Read A Book

In a recent interview, Kanye West announced that he has never read a book and compares reading to “eating Brussels sprouts.”  He revealed this claim on the Alo Mind Full podcast with Alo Yoga co-founder Danny Harris and host Alyson Wilson when Harris said he had read a particular book “over 100 times”.  After this, Kanye explained he’d never read this book Harris was mentioning and added “I actually haven’t read any books.”  “Reading is like eating Brussels sprouts for me,” he continued. “And talking is like getting the Giorgio Baldi corn ravioli.”  According to NME, Kanye went on to add an anecdote about Mike Howe, the inventor of the Ripsaw combat vehicle, saying: “When his mum texts him long paragraphs, he reads the first sentence and the last sentence. This person and his brother invented the fastest track vehicle – they put it in GI Joe, they have government contracts, this guy is a full-on-engineer, works with all geniuses, and for practical – not opinionated, you know, practical – technologies, and he only reads the first sentence and the last.  “What do you think my response was? ‘Same.’”

How Elton Saved Britney-(Star)

Six years since her last album and nine months after being freed from a 13-year conservatorship, Britney Spears is ready for a reboot.  Enter Elton John, who tapped her for a duet on the mashup of 1971’s “Tiny Dancer” and 1992’s “The One.”  “Everyone was saying they don’t think she can sing anymore,” the 75-year-old recently said.  “But I said, she was brilliant when she started, so I think she can.”  It’s more than the song.  The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has been a real guardian angel to the 40-year-old, insider say.  “He’s told Britney she can call him day or night,” says a source.  “He’s happy to open any doors he can to help back on her feet.”  Sir Elton has said it’s simply a matter of paying it forward.  “Britney was broken,” he mused.  “I’ve been through that broken feeling and it’s horrible…..I don’t want to see any artists in a dark place.”

Truck Used To Move Alligator

An alligator found in the middle of a Texas road was so large that authorities ended up getting help from a tow truck to lift the reptile into the bed of a pickup truck.  Harris County Constable Precinct 4 said officers responded to an Atascocita neighborhood early Monday morning after a 12-foot alligator was spotted wandering the area.  Officers arrived to find the large gator occupying the middle of the road.  A specialist wrangler responded to the scene with a pickup truck and was able to capture and restrain the gator.  The trapper and police ended up soliciting the help of a tow truck to lift the massive gator into the back of the trapper’s pickup.  See the video HERE.

Wine Covered Highway

A trailer collided with a guard rail on a California highway and spilled hundreds of pounds of freshly harvested grapes into the roadway.  The California Highway Patrol said a truck was hauling a flatbed trailer loaded with grape containers on northbound U.S. 101 in Petaluma about 12:30 p.m. Sunday when the trailer went over the guardrail and spilled its load into the left two lanes.  No injuries were reported in the incident.  Traffic was limited to a single lane while Caltrans crews worked to clear the grapes from the roadway. All lanes were reported after about three hours, but traffic observers warned there were residual delays from the closure.  See the video HERE.

Man Breaks Drinking Record

An English man broke a Guinness World Record by having a drink at 67 different pubs in a single 24-hour period.  Nathan Crimp, 22, took on the record for most pubs visited in 24 hours (individual), and he ended up visiting 67 pubs in the Brighton, England, area in the space of about 17 hours.  Crimp, who was accompanied by a pair of friends, aimed to beat the record of 56 pubs, which was set by Gareth Murphy over the course of 10 hours in Cardiff, Wales, earlier this year.  “It was easily the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I completely underestimated just how hard it was actually going to be,” Crimp told the Liverpool Echo. “The plan was to try and keep it sober for the first 25 pubs, but that went out the window 15 pubs in. I had to mix it up a little bit, I tried to drink alcohol in one and non-alcoholic drink in another — trying to space it out,” he said.

Country Club Apologizes For 9/11 Menu

A Manassas, Virginia, country club was forced to apologize for its 9/11-themed food menu that included items as a chocolate silk “Pentagon Pie,” “2977 Chowder” and “First Responder Flatbread.”  The special seafood menu was promoted by The Clubhouse at Aquia Harbour. The number 2,977 marks the official tally of fatalities on Sept. 11, 2001.  Diners looking for a taste of everything could order the “Never Forget Sampler.”  The menu quickly faced backlash on social media, with one Twitter user calling the promotion “appalling.”  It has since been taken down.  Clubhouse manager George White issued a mea culpa on Facebook Tuesday night, saying, “I apologize for those I offended with the 9/11 seafood Sunday post.”

If You Struggle To Start Or Complete Tasks, These 13 Tips Are For You

Huffington post

Practice chunking

“A great way to get started is a skill called ‘chunking,’ which means breaking things down into small actionable steps,” Roberts said. He also suggests people should “lower their expectations if they find a task too daunting and recognize that done is better than perfect.” Kate McCann, a licensed mental health counselor who has a private counseling practice based in Worcester, Massachusetts, gives an example of how to break down an overwhelming task.

“Rather than think, ‘I have to clean the whole kitchen, and it’s a mess, I don’t know where to start, and it will take forever,’ break it down into, ‘to clean the kitchen, I have to first put away any food that’s been left out. Then get the dish rack emptied. Then I have to empty the dishwasher. Then I can get the dirty dishes loaded. Then I can wash the pots. Then I can wipe down the counters. Then I can watch the Real Housewives as a treat because I will be done,’” she said.  “Breaking the task down into small do-able parts that get paced out can help break down that wall of total resistance,” McCann added.

Transition to the task by doing another activity first

Kara Nassour, a therapist at Shaded Bough Counseling in Austin, Texas, suggests using another activity to help you transition to the task you want to do.  “If it’s hard to get off the couch to mow the lawn, it may be easier to get up, walk around the yard while listening to music, and then mow the lawn,” Nassour said. “If you’re struggle to start your homework, looking over your previous homework might help get your brain on track.”

Narrow your list down to just three items

Sometimes huge to-do lists can be overwhelming — not to mention impossible to get done in one day. Katie Ziskind, a therapist and owner of Wisdom Within Counseling, suggests picking three main goals.

“If you don’t have any clean laundry and you need clean clothes for work in the morning, but you still have some fruits, beans, rice, and pasta to eat, doing laundry will be more important than going food shopping,” she said. “Even if you think you’d find food shopping more fun than laundry.”  Ziskind added that “when you don’t feel motivated, that can come from feeling like you have too much responsibility.”

Redefine success

Telling yourself you have to finish everything to feel accomplished is setting yourself up for failure. Instead, Johnson recommends rethinking what you consider a win.  “Redefine success of a task to make it more manageable or easier,” she said. “An example is to tell yourself that washing half of the dishes today will count as a win instead of saying you have to do them all and clean the whole kitchen to feel accomplished.” Sometimes, just doing a few dishes is all you can do that day, and that’s OK.

Figure out exactly how much time it takes to do the task

Sometimes it’s hard to get started on something when we think it’ll take longer or shorter than it really will.

“Say your goal is to unload the dishwasher,” said Mary Hadley, a speech language pathologist who specializes in executive functioning challenges at Signpost Speech and Language Therapy in Austin, Texas“Write down how long you think it will take, time yourself and see how long it really took.”  This isn’t so you can judge yourself on how long it took; rather, it’s a way to build awareness and get a better understanding of yourself. This can make it easier to plan your day and say no to things you really don’t have time for. Once your day feels more manageable, it can be easier to get started.  “Being unrealistic about what you can get done in a day often makes initiating tasks harder,” Johnson said. “You set yourself up for failure.”

Allow yourself a set time to be distracted

Distractions are going to happen, so embrace them. “Allow yourself to be distracted, but set a timer for your distractions,” Johnson recommended.

Outsource help

There’s nothing wrong with asking for or seeking help. If there’s a task you find you consistently aren’t able to motivate yourself to do (like cleaning the bathrooms), then hire someone else to do it, if you can. Or offer a trade with a partner or friend. Ziskind said even doing this one time can help you.

Speak kindly to yourself

Cheer yourself on like you would a friend. “Speaking kindly to yourself, being your own cheerleader, and encouraging yourself are keys to starting tasks and getting tasks done,” Ziskind said.

Hadley agreed, encouraging people to regularly engage in “positive self-talk.” “This is a simple, free, and surprisingly powerful tool to implement into your daily life,” she said.  “Talk to your anxiety or distractibility as you are getting started on a task: ‘Hey anxiety, good to see you, thanks for stopping by but I don’t need you right now,’” Hadley explained. “Or, ‘I’m going to set a time and work on this for 20 minutes. I’ve got this.’ Remind yourself this is a process; it will take a while to feel accomplished and there is no such thing as perfection.”

Reward yourself

Ditch the old advice of doing the hardest thing on your list first. Instead, start and end with something fun.

“Do something that you want to do first and plan something that you are looking forward to do afterward as a reward,” Johnson said.

Focus on the end result

Make a vision board, write down your goals, or just picture what you want your end result to look like to keep you motivated.  “Have visual reminders of the overall goal,” Johnson said. “For example, if you have issues getting started on work projects, but you’re looking forward to moving up in the company, have a sheet of paper you can look at with your name and the title that you want behind it.”

If that doesn’t work, think about how happy you’ll feel in the short term. “Imagine how grateful your future self will be to your present self for getting it done,” McCann said. “I do chores on Thursday mornings so Weekend [Me] doesn’t have to do them, and Weekend [Me] LOVES Thursday [Me] for that.”  She explained that avoidance offers a momentary relief, but ultimately makes you feel worse at the end of the day. “No one wants to do the task now or feels like doing a chore but consider how you would like to feel afterward,” McCann continued, adding, “If you complete some small steps, and give yourself lots of praise for doing so, you will feel good about yourself at the end of the day.”

Pay attention to how you feel

Nassour suggested paying attention to how you feel when you find yourself avoiding tasks. “If you’re feeling tired, depressed, anxious, irritable, or in pain, that’s likely interfering with the task you meant to do,” she said. “Address the underlying problem and you will probably get more done.”  “Don’t criticize yourself for struggling to start tasks, because feelings of guilt and shame can make your brain associate that feeling with the task, and subconsciously make you want to avoid it in the future,” she added, suggesting treating the underlying anxieties or other issues.

Take care of your health

Making your health a priority can help make task initiation easier. “Take care of your mind and body,” Nassour said. “If you’re not getting enough food or sleep, or come home exhausted, or are in pain all the time, these things will interfere with getting things done.”  She added that a regular use of cannabis, alcohol or other substances could affect you as well, and limiting them “may improve your motivation in other areas of life.”

Reach out to a therapist for help

Therapy can help those struggling with task initiation. A cognitive behavioral therapy approach that reframes “negative cognitions and beliefs into positive ones helps you see a problem as less daunting and yourself as more competent, which helps you engage in different behaviors,” according to McCann.

Psychodynamic therapy, otherwise known as “why do I feel the way I feel” therapy, may help as well. Roberts explained it “can help with resolving any underlying emotional issues related to task initiation.”

Discovering tricks to jump-start your brain and improve task initiation can be a game changer. We all have bad days or times we struggle with procrastination, but with some health maintenance, self-kindness and plenty of rewards, it can start to get easier.
