Channing Tatum Has A Children’s Book

Channing Tatum will release the children’s book The One and Only Sparkella.  He will publish the picture book, illustrated by Kim Barnes, in May 2021.  Sparkella is inspired by Everly, Tatum’s 7-year-old daughter with his ex-wife, Jenna Dewan. Tatum shared a photo Monday on Instagram of himself wearing fairy wings and surrounded by his daughter’s toys.  “Guys, I don’t know about you but things got a little weird for me in quarantine. I ended up accidentally locking myself in my 7 year old daughter’s room. And I ended up finding my inner child. So this is what I created for my little girl. From what is, I guess, the little girl in me. Thanks for reading. #Sparkella,” he captioned the post.  Publisher MacMillan described Sparkella as “a charming ode to self-esteem and the love between a father and daughter.”  Sparkella follows Ella, a young girl excited for her first day at a new school. When her classmates reject her look, Ella’s dad encourages her to be herself and let her sparkle shine.  Tatum shared a video in 2018 of himself and Everly making slime. He said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2017 that his daughter wasn’t a fan of his and Dewan’s film Step Up.  “Within 10 seconds, she was like, ‘Can I watch a real movie? Like, a good one?'” Tatum said.  See his post HERE.

R Kelly Seeking Early Release After Attack

R Kelly’s attorney is seeking an early release for the singer after he was allegedly attacked in his sleep by a fellow inmate armed with a pen.  He is awaiting trial at the Metropolitan Correctional Center but his lawyer, Steven Greenberg, is seeking his immediate release given that a trial date cannot be set due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that he feels his client is clearly unsafe in the general population.  “Only in a Third World nation could somebody be held indefinitely, without the possibility of going to trial. It is un-American. It is illegal. Nowhere does the law authorize indefinite detention,” Greenberg wrote in a motion filed Monday.  “This is an inmate that never should have been anywhere near Mr. Kelly,” Greenberg writes. “An individual who is charged with the most violent of crimes, and one who plainly has no respect for the rules, he has the phrase ‘Fu** The Feds’ tattooed on his face.”  It seems the reason that Kelly is the subject of outrage among the prison’s population stems from the fact that protests outside the prison calling for his release have caused it to go into lockdown several times, posing an inconvenience to every other inmate.

Hailey Baldwin Opens Up About Marriage To Bieber

Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber briefly began dating in 2015 before splitting shortly after. They reconciled in 2018 and have since married.  She recently spoke with Elle, and revealed that there’s something about her hubby that gets on her nerves.  “I don’t consider myself as somebody who has the longest lashes in the world,” she explained. “It’s fine. I’ve accepted it. I can live with it. They’re visible, they’re there, but they’re not super long.”  Baldwin added: “My husband actually has way longer lashes than I do, and I get really annoyed.”  In the interview, Baldwin also discussed helping to teach him about skincare.  “Justin was struggling a bit with acne. I tried to help him clear that and get that under control and it is working. It’s gone, and he’s really happy,” she said. “I give him all of the tips that I use personally and I’ve given him products that I use. I’m always big on keeping your skin hydrated. It’s taken him a while, though.”  In fact, the model said that Bieber is now fairly “into skincare.”  “Let me just say that my man is so into skincare. I mean, I wouldn’t say so into skincare, but he cares a lot about what’s going on with his skin now because he knows how much I love it,” Baldwin said. “And he’s just taking my advice.”

And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” Carey, 50, recently told Vulture, adding, “I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage,” she says.  She added that DeGeneres could have been more sensitive and understanding as to why she may have wanted to hold off on sharing the baby news.  “I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment,” she told the site, noting that there is “an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do?”  Shortly after the interview, Carey had a miscarriage. She then went on to get pregnant again with her 9-year-old twins Morrocan and Monroe, whom she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon.

2 Pythons Fall Thru Ceiling

An Australian man called reptile experts for help when he arrived home to find two large snakes had fallen through his kitchen ceiling.  Steven Brown of Brisbane North Snake Catchers and Relocation said he responded to a Brisbane home Monday when a man called complaining of a 9.5-foot carpet python and an 8.2-foot carpet python slithering around his kitchen.  “Both these snakes were two of the fattest snakes I’ve seen, as in the amount of muscle they had,” Brown told CNN. He said the snakes were “very well fed.”  Brown said in a Facebook post that he determined the big serpents had fallen through the man’s kitchen ceiling before exploring the house.  The snake catcher said the male pythons were likely fighting over a nearby female when they crashed through the ceiling.  See the photo HERE.

Vulture Gets Stuck Upside Down

Animal rescuers in British Columbia came to the assistance of a turkey vulture spotted hanging upside-down from a rope suspended from a tree branch.  The British Columbia SPCA Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center, or Wild ARC, said it was contacted by the Matchosin Fire Department when the bird was spotted in distress.  “This poor bird had a length of rope wrapped around its leg that had gotten caught on a branch forcing the bird to hang upside down for several hours,” Wild ARC said in a Facebook post.  Wild ARC personnel arrived alongside a Langford Fire Rescue crew, and the rescuers called Tip Top Tree Service to bring in a bucket truck when they determined the entangled bird was in a difficult spot to reach with a ladder or other means.  “After an exam at Wild ARC, it was determined that injuries were minimal and we’re happy to say that the Turkey Vulture was successfully released after a few days of supportive care,” the post said.

Ghost Ship Tours

A British man who posted an ad for “ghost ship” tours of the empty cruise ships moored in the English Channel said the business has proven unexpectedly popular.  Paul Derham, who worked on cruise ships for 27 years before making the move to running two local ferries in Mudeford, England, said he saw a potential business opportunity in the multiple empty cruise ships moored in the English Channel amid the COVID-19 pandemic.  Derham started using his expertise to give 2.5-hour “ghost ship” tours, in which he takes tourists as close as 160 feet to the empty vessels, some of which he worked aboard during his time in the cruise industry.  “They look spectacular, because even when they’re in the ports of call, like Southampton or wherever, you can’t get that close to a ship, with a good view,” Derham told CNN.  Derham said he was surprised to discover how much interest their was in his tours, which quickly became booked solid.  He said some of his passengers have been devoted cruise fans who saw the tour as an opportunity to revisit their previous vacations. He said one couple had been aboard one of the boats, the Allure of the Seas, earlier this year.

A New York state man broke a Guinness World Record for most alternating one-handed claps in 1 minute when he managed 853 claps.  Cory Macellaro, of Rocky Point, took on the record at Heritage Park in Brookhaven, in front of witnesses including Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner.  Macellaro managed 853 claps — an average of more than 14 claps per second. His total beat the previous record of 685, which was set in 2019 by Hassan Alghazali of Baghdad, Iraq.  “This was my first time serving as a witness to a Guinness World Record attempt and I must say it was very exciting to be a part of Cory’s big day,” Bonner said after the attempt.  Video and audio evidence of the attempt is being submitted to Guinness for official certification, which officials said could take up to 12 weeks.

5 Strategies That’ll Help You Stop Fighting With Your Partner About Money

The Penny Hoarder

Understand That Beliefs About Money Take Hold Early

How you approach your finances as an adult goes back to what you learned about money as a child, explains Jessica Small, who works as a licensed marriage and family therapist and premarital counselor with Growing Self Counseling and Coaching.

It always helps to have a little money in the bank. Get great ideas about how to build your savings delivered straight to your inbox in The Penny Hoarder Daily.

“Upbringing probably plays the biggest role in someone’s financial style,” Small said. “So much of our belief system about money is defined by the messages we received as a child and how money is talked about in our families growing up.”

Allana Pratt, an intimacy coach, relationship expert, and host of “Intimate Conversations,” also points out that early beliefs surrounding money all result in an emotional mindset that will impact how you manage money later in life. Those beliefs could stem from things like getting positive attention when you saved your allowance as a child or learning to limit your dreams because you grew up in poverty.

Action Step for Couples: Carve out time to talk about how your family of origin approached money. Spend some time exploring how your partner’s financial upbringing — as well as your own — affects how you both approach money today. It can help both of you understand the “why” behind your beliefs about money.

Realize that Finances = Feelings

It’s important to recognize that when it comes to managing money, it’s never just about the dollar signs, according to Small. How you approach money actually boils down to how you feel about money, because a lot of emotion is attached to money in our society.

“We watch how our parents or primary caregivers spend money, their emotions around money, and how they fight about money to try to make sense of the value money holds,” she said. “If we grow up in a house where anxiety is the primary emotion that is expressed around money, then we begin to associate anxiety with finances. Sometimes, we’ll replicate what we saw growing up and other times people will consciously do the direct opposite.”

Small said that because finances are so closely intertwined with feelings, whenever she sees a couple in her practice who are struggling with financial management, she always asks them one question: “What does money mean to you?”

She asks that question because what we associate money with is usually what drives our spending. For example, a person who associates money with stability and safety may be more likely to save because having money in the bank makes them feel safe. On the other hand, a person who associates money with freedom may be more inclined to spend their money on adventure and travel, to live on their own or to buy things they want.

“Once we understand a person’s values around money, it is much easier to understand and have empathy for their spending/saving habits, as well as start to find the overlap where couples can agree,” she says.

Action Step for Couples: Talk about what money means to you as an individual, and how your feelings towards money may be playing out in how you manage your finances both together and separately.

Don’t Put Off “The Talk”

It’s not uncommon for couples to be faced with the realization that they’re on different financial pages when faced with big transitions in life, such as a marriage, having a child, losing a job, buying a home, or handling elder care and preparing for retirement.

Ideally, you would be on the same page financially before facing those big-life moments in order to minimize the stress of navigating finances and the situation at once, but sometimes, that just doesn’t happen. But it’s never too late to have the financial talk.

Action Step for Couples: Small recommends asking each other the following questions:

  • Do you both live and spend from a budget?
  • How do you both feel about carrying credit card debts?
  • How do you both feel about having debt at all?
  • What you would do if you came into a lot of money (think: inheritance, lottery, etc.)?
  • What do you feel is the most important thing you can spend money on? (I.e., experiences, material items, shelter, food, charitable contributions, etc.)
  • Do you want to share a bank account—and if you already do or don’t, should that strategy be revisited?
  • What do you believe is the best way to save for retirement?

Don’t Overlook How Finances Can Affect Everything

If you’re in a relationship, your financial strategies and mindset will affect almost every part of your lives together.

“If you don’t have conversations about money, about your relationship with money, about your saving habits, spending habits or investment habits, then first you start to subtly judge each other, then resentments can grow, then you can be literally blindsided by another’s decision and take it deeply personally, [or] reject them for it, when all that needed to happen was to have a series of conversations and create some agreements around how you choose to earn, save, spend, give, and invest money,” she said.

Small agrees, pointing out that avoiding conversations about money can turn into resentment, anger, anxiety and a lack of trust.  All of those can and will erode relationships over time.

And both experts agree: Disagreements about finances will also show up in other aspects of your relationship, like the bedroom.

“When someone is feeling stressed and anxious about money or their partner’s spending, it decreases the emotional intimacy and safety that is needed for sex,” Small explains.

Action Step for Couples: If you’re finding challenges in different parts of your relationship, don’t overlook how finances could be a factor in other aspects of your partnership.

Start Small — and Seek Help When You Need It

What often happens with couples who are having disagreements over their finances, Small said, is they start to avoid even looking at — let alone discussing — their financial lives.

As you can imagine, that’s a strategy that will eventually backfire.

Getting started can be the hardest part, so she recommends some simple strategies that can help you:

  • Start with a budget. “In order to gain a sense of control over something, we have to know what it looks like,” she explains. So, start by sitting down with each other and writing everything: all of your income and expenses, including your cash flow, debts and savings. After that, focus on building a budget together — one you both can live with.
  • Use technology. There are many different ways to budget, so explore what works best for you both. Many tools, like the finance app Mint, can help you stay organized and in sync.
  • Schedule a weekly “money meeting.”A weekly meeting ensures you are carving out time to talk about your budget, upcoming payments or income, and unforeseen expenses. The meetings will help keep communication open about spending and money, said Small.
  • Consider couples’ therapy. Therapy can help walk you both through your belief systems around money and develop the tools to more effectively manage difficult conversations. “My rule of thumb is that if you think it could be helpful. than that’s reason enough to go,” Small states. “If you’re considering professional help, then seek it.”

Action Step for Couples: Schedule your first “money meeting” in the next week or so to sit down together and go over your finances together. Remember, your financial life affects everything, so it’s a crucial part of your relationship that shouldn’t be overlooked.

And don’t be afraid to seek out professional help to support your relationship — every great team needs a coach sometimes, right?
